CHAPTER 151: CHAPTER 151: ARE YOU JEALOUS? (2)
"No," Vera Wave spoke seriously. "She pushed me and I pushed back; we’re even."
"No!"
Kris Cooper’s face was full of determination.
He could hardly bring himself to lay a finger on his woman, even when she infuriated him to no end. He couldn’t abide the fact that the damned girl had pushed her into the fish pond. He wouldn’t let it go.
Watching the dark expression on the man by her side, Vera couldn’t help but frown. If they really went, who knew what kind of trouble this guy would cause? After all, Ria Chapman’s father was a shareholder of Glimmer. If Kris Cooper caused a conflict with the shareholders because of this incident, her culpability would be immense. He was so good to her; she couldn’t cause him trouble.
Seeing the car stop at a red light, she reached out, laid her hand on his arm, and softened her voice.
"I... I’m hungry. Can we go eat?"
Kris Cooper saw through her ruse and smiled affectionately. "Don’t worry, nothing will happen."
"I’m really hungry. Let’s go eat, okay?" Vera pursed her lips, gently shook his arm, and finally, in an impossibly sweet and coaxing voice, added, "Honey."
His arm tingled from her gentle persuasion. How could Kris refuse? He sighed, switched on his turn signal, made a left turn, and parked in front of the nearest restaurant.
Seeing that he wasn’t planning to cause trouble at Ria Chapman’s birthday banquet, Vera finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The two walked into the restaurant together. After they ordered, Kris pushed a dessert he had specifically chosen for her toward her. "Weren’t you hungry? Eat something."
Her eyes lingered on the blueberry mousse before her for a moment. Vera then lifted her face to look at Kris Cooper.
The man was gazing at her, his eyes adoring and gentle.
...
"I don’t just like you, I love you!"
...
His words from the car earlier echoed in her ears, causing her heart to suddenly race.
For a man to do this much for a woman, even if it wasn’t love, it had to be at least genuine affection, right?
"You said in the car earlier... that you’d give me an explanation."
Kris Cooper hesitated for a moment.
"Give me three days, alright?"
"Three days?" Vera looked at him, puzzled.
"In three days, I’ll give you an explanation." Kris Cooper handed her the fork. "Didn’t you say you were hungry? Eat up."
Vera took the fork and put a piece of cake into her mouth.
"I think... I’m not suited to work at Glimmer anymore. Can I... resign?"
Today’s incident was a clear lesson. He couldn’t be at Glimmer all the time. What if another Ella Davis or Freya Edwards appeared? She didn’t want to fight every day, and this kind of aimless work couldn’t really be called a job.
"I want a real job."
"Alright." Kris Cooper nodded. "What kind of job are you looking for?"
"My major is advertising design and marketing. I’d like to find something in that field."
Kris Cooper pondered for a moment. "Report to the Advertising Department of Ashton Real Estate first thing tomorrow morning."
"Then..." Vera lifted her face, looking at him with pleading eyes. "Can we... not let anyone know about our relationship?"
After meeting her gaze for a moment, Kris Cooper’s lips curved into a gentle smile. "You’ll start as an entry-level employee in the Advertising Department. Unless you specifically ask me, I won’t interfere in your affairs. Is that acceptable?"
"Thank you, Pres—" Vera trailed off, then her face lit up with a brilliant smile. Noticing his slightly raised eyebrow, she quickly added two more words, "Honey!"
"Ashton Real Estate isn’t a place just anyone can get into, is it?" Kris Cooper tapped his fingers lightly on the table, his tone teasing. "You think a simple ’thank you’ is enough to dismiss me?"
