CHAPTER 156: CHAPTER 156: WHO BOUGHT IT

"Vera, it’s me." On the phone, it’s Nathan Leafcastle’s voice, "Are you off work?"

Vera Wave looks around and only then notices that the afternoon has swiftly passed, and it’s already dark outside. Several colleagues are still working overtime, while others are packing up their computers, ready to leave.

"I’m still working overtime, do you need something?"

"I just wanted to ask if you could take me to see Grandma," Nathan says.

"Oh..." Vera checks her watch, "Okay, I’ll pack up and head to the hospital right away."

"Should I pick you up?"

"No need, taking the subway is very convenient for me. You can head straight to Akriel Hospital, I’ll be there in about half an hour, and I’ll contact you then."

"Alright."

After hanging up, Vera gathers the printed materials and holds them in her arms, grabbing her phone from the table and tucking it into her backpack, then hurriedly heads downstairs.

In the backpack, the phone lightly alerts her of an unread message, but she hadn’t heard it.

Forty minutes later, she has already exited the subway station near the hospital, just about to take out her phone to call Nathan Leafcastle, when she hears a warm male voice not far away.

"Vera." In the car by the roadside, Nathan waves at her with a smile, "Hop in!"

The hospital is still seven or eight hundred meters away, and Vera can’t refuse, so she gets into the back seat.

The car drives into the hospital, and the two of them get out together. She holds the materials while Nathan carries fruits and a bouquet of fresh flowers, and they enter the elevator together.

"You haven’t had dinner yet, have you?" Nathan glances at the materials in her arms, "How about grabbing something to eat together later?"

"No need, I’ve eaten." Vera smiles and tells a small lie, "The company provided overtime meals."

Firstly, she isn’t very familiar with Nathan, and secondly, she still has to go back and thoroughly review the materials, with no time to waste on dinner.

Nathan laughs, "You can’t even join me for a meal?"

"Well..." As Vera hesitates, the elevator door opens, and she quickly steps out, leading Nathan towards the ward’s direction, "I’ve been really busy with work, maybe another day?"

"That sounds good," Nathan nods, "I’ve discovered some clues about the old house."

"Really?" Vera’s eyes light up, "Did you find out who bought it?"

"I’ve only found out the middleman; I’m still not sure who exactly bought it. I’ll definitely inform you as soon as I find out."

Vera stops and looks at him with gratitude, "Okay, thank you so much."

Feeling her politeness and unfamiliarity, a hint of melancholy flashes through Nathan’s dark eyes, "Vera, you don’t need to be so polite with me."

"We’re just ahead, let’s go in!" Vera pulls her gaze back, pushes open the door in front, "Grandma, look who’s here to see you!"

Grandma Wave lifts her face to look, and Nathan steps into the ward, approaching the elder’s bedside.

"Grandma."

"Are you...?" Grandma Wave peers at him for several moments, her cloudy eyes showing a sign of surprise, "Are you Little Castle?"

"Yes, Grandma, I’m Little Castle!" Nathan smiles and sits on the chair that Vera has brought over, "How are you now, does the wound still hurt?"

"No, it feels fine!" Grandma Wave smiles broadly, "Little Castle, this child, is so sensible, Grandma loves Little Castle."

Seeing someone from the past, Grandma Wave is in a great mood, talking about many things from Nathan Leafcastle’s and Vera’s childhood.

As she talks, she tremblingly reaches out to pull Vera’s hand and places it together with Nathan’s hand.
