CHAPTER 161: CHAPTER 161 I ACCEPT YOUR CONFESSION (2)

She possessed the same radiance as six years ago—that of a confident, cheerful, vibrant, and carefree young girl.

As she reached the second floor, Vera Wave waved at him.

"I’m off to write the proposal then. See you tomorrow!"

Kris Cooper suddenly remembered something and quickly called out to her.

"Vera!"

Vera turned around to see him holding out a card to her.

"This is your card; keep it safe!"

Looking at the bank card in his hand, Vera pressed her lips together.

"If... you genuinely want to be friends with me, I hope it’ll be on equal terms. You can keep this money for now. If there’s ever a need for it, I’ll ask for your help, but I can’t accept it now. Of course, I’ll slowly repay you the medical fees you paid for my grandma. Does that sound okay?"

Gathering her courage, she lifted her big eyes, looking at Kris Cooper with pure sincerity on her small face.

Kris Cooper held the card between his fingers, gazing into her eyes. "You want to be friends with me?"

"Yes." Vera nodded seriously. "I think you’re a very nice person, you’ve been really kind to me, and moreover..."

Lifting his finger, Kris Cooper gently tilted her chin, making her meet his gaze.

"Moreover what?"

"Moreover!" Vera coughed lightly. "I don’t dislike you!"

In fact, it wasn’t just that she didn’t dislike him; perhaps she even liked him a little?

While waiting for him earlier, she had been contemplating her relationship with Kris Cooper.

This man might have a bit of a temper at times, but he truly, genuinely cared for her.

She had clearly noticed that he hadn’t avoided the piece of beef in his own meal. The only explanation, then, was that he gave her the meat and vegetables out of affection, using this unconventional method because he was worried about hurting her pride.

Such a man deserved her respect, not to be used as her sugar daddy.

Gently caressing her cheek, Kris Cooper’s heart filled with joy.

"Will you be my girlfriend?"

"This..." Vera’s brows furrowed slightly. "Kris Cooper, I... I’m not ready yet."

She had just ended a failed relationship and still hadn’t fully emerged from Harry Snowpine’s shadow.

"You still like that Harry Snowpine?"

"Of course not. It’s just that..." Vera hesitated for a moment. "I don’t know how to put it; I’m just not sure what my feelings for you really are."

They weren’t a couple, yet they had done things more intimate than what couples do. If that made them a couple, well, it didn’t quite feel like it.

"Look into my eyes!" Kris Cooper said, raising his hand to brace himself against the security door behind her. "What do you see?"

Vera blinked, looking carefully into his eyes.

"A bit bloodshot?!"

The man’s brow twitched, and he leaned his face closer to her.

"You only see bloodshot eyes?!"

His face moved nearer, so close that his breath brushed against her face. As she focused on those eyes, now mere inches away, her mind reeled as some images vaguely flashed through it.

In her vision, there was also a pair of similar eyes.

Unable to control herself, her heart began to race. As if spurred by some unknown force, she lifted her face and gently nibbled his chin.

Feeling the warm, moist touch on his chin, Kris Cooper’s lips curved into a satisfied smile.

That was how it had been. At first, she had wanted to kiss his lips, but she wasn’t tall enough to reach them. Over time, it had gradually become her habit to lean in and kiss his chin whenever they parted ways.
