CHAPTER 173: CHAPTER 174: SLEEPING HALF EACH? (2)

Seeing Vera Wave’s beaming little face, Kris Cooper handed her the chopsticks he had just wiped. She gave him a sweet smile and started to eat without any hesitation.

Having been hungry since morning and now feeling famished, she figured it would be a waste not to devour all the delicious dishes laid out. So, she tucked in, taking a bite of this and a bite of that with her chopsticks, eating heartily.

Due to her hunger, she ate rather quickly, and after her stomach was full, she let out a small, uncontrollable burp.

Vera Wave covered her mouth in embarrassment as a cup of warm water was already being offered to her.

"Eat slowly!"

Kris Cooper placed the cup in her hand, his own hand naturally reaching out to gently disentangle a long strand of her hair that had caught on her chopsticks, tucking it behind her ear.

The man’s movements were effortlessly natural. As his fingers brushed delicately past the back of her ear, Vera’s face heated up, and her heart began to pound erratically.

"You... enjoy your meal. I’ll get to work now."

Clutching her cup, she stood up and quickly retreated from his side. She took her laptop, settled onto a separate small sofa, and continued to work on her proposal.

Once she became absorbed in her work, she forgot her earlier self-consciousness.

Initially, she sat primly, but later she casually slipped off her uncomfortable high heels and sat cross-legged on the sofa.

Whenever she felt thirsty, she would pick up her cup and take a sip, her gaze remaining fixed on the screen. She never noticed that her cup had seemingly become a magic cup; no matter how many times she drank from it, the water never seemed to run out.

"Ah... I’m finally done!" After typing the final period, Vera Wave stretched relaxedly. Leaning back onto the sofa, she glanced up from her laptop screen to see Kris Cooper adding hot water to her cup.

No wonder the water was always hot and never seemed to run out... So that was why...

Vera glanced at the time displayed on her screen. It was already 1 a.m.

Had it really gotten this late without me realizing?

He... he’d been refilling her water all this time?!

Glancing down at her bare feet curled up on the sofa, she quickly stood up.

"I’m sor...sorry, Mr..."

"Call me by my name."

"I am sorry, Kris, I didn’t realize how late it was. I’ll leave now."

"The company’s doors automatically lock at midnight."

"Tha... then what do we do?"

"Two options: first, you can call Security to open the door; second, there’s a bed in the rest area."

If I call Security this late, and they see me leaving with him, the entire company will know by morning.

But sleep here?!

The rest area only has one bed. Does that mean I have to share it with him?

"I... I’ll sleep on the sofa."

"There’s only one blanket."

"I... I don’t need a blanket."

Kris Cooper said, his expression perfectly businesslike, "Your proposal is crucial to the company. I can’t afford to have an employee take sick leave because of a cold."

"Then..." Vera glanced at the large bed in the rest area. "How about we each take half?"

Kris Cooper shrugged. "Seems like the only way."

The nerve! He’s clearly taking advantage, yet he’s acting so reluctant!

Vera shot him a discreet glare. "Then you go to bed first. I’ll come after I finish reviewing this."

I’d rather wait until he falls asleep; otherwise, it would be too awkward.

"Alright."

Kris Cooper turned and walked into the rest area.

Vera carefully proofread the proposal one more time, then quietly peeked into the rest area. The lights inside were dimmed, and Kris Cooper was already in bed, leaving half of it for her.

She then went to the bathroom to wash her hands, face, and feet. She dawdled for quite some time, but when she finally couldn’t fight off her sleepiness any longer, she tiptoed cautiously into the room.
