CHAPTER 176: CHAPTER 177: YOU’RE NOT PREGNANT AGAIN (1)
The sight of the three words—’ten million’—had Vera Wave swallowing hard.
This man is truly a businessman, always insisting on signing contracts, and the stakes just keep getting higher and higher, she thought.
"We don’t need a contract for this, do we?" she smiled innocently at Kris Cooper. "Isn’t my guarantee enough?"
"Either sign the contract, or take responsibility for me."
How did it go from a man taking responsibility for a woman to her being on the hook?
"What do you mean by ’taking responsibility’?"
"Marry me!"
Marry?
"Mar...marriage?!" Vera nearly bit her tongue. "On what grounds?!"
Kris crossed his arms. "It was my first time!"
"Who’d believe that? You were anything but inexperienced. If anything, you knew too many positions..." Realizing the topic was getting indecent, Vera swallowed back her words. "Besides, you’re not pregnant!"
If he had the ability, he wouldn’t mind conceiving one himself! Kris thought.
"So..." Kris flicked the document in his hand lightly. "You don’t want to sign, do you?"
"Of course I don’t want to sign! This is a one-sided contract, an unequal treaty... What happened to equality? Why am I always the one signing contracts with you? Why do you always get your way? On what grounds..."
WHAM!
Kris slammed the contract onto the table.
Looking at Kris’s livid expression, Vera’s lips tightened; she anticipated a storm. She hung her head, waiting anxiously, her hands by her sides lightly pinching the hem of her clothes.
His gaze fell on her. Seeing her startled, deer-like fright, Kris furrowed his brow and forcibly suppressed his anger.
He grabbed the car keys from the table and turned towards the main door.
Vera looked up. Seeing Kris already by the door, she raised her eyebrows uncertainly.
He... he actually didn’t lose his temper, nor did he force me to sign?
Kris pulled the door open. When he didn’t hear her footsteps, he opened it fully, revealing Tommy Taylor on the other side.
"President Cooper." Tommy Taylor, who had clearly been about to knock, lowered his raised finger and handed Kris a paper bag. "What you asked for."
Kris didn’t take it. He just took a deep breath and uttered three words.
"Give it to her."
With that, he strode away.
Tommy hurried into the room, proffering the paper bag to Vera.
"Miss Wave, President Cooper asked me to bring you some clothes. Since we don’t know your style preference, we bought several sets."
Vera glanced at the paper bag he placed on the edge of the table, biting her lip.
"Where... where has he gone?"
"That..." Tommy gave a smile. "You’d have to ask President Cooper about that. I’ll leave the clothes here. Please let me know if you need anything else."
After putting down the clothes, Tommy turned, exited the room, and pulled the door tightly shut behind him.
Looking at the clothes on the table and then at the contract, Vera recalled the look on Kris’s face as he left. She felt an odd pain in her chest.
Suddenly, a phone on the table rang.
Vera jumped at the sound. Looking towards the noise, she saw it was Kris Cooper’s phone.
Seeing Tommy’s name on the caller ID, she quickly grabbed the phone and opened the door.
"He... he left his phone."
"Oh..." Tommy took the phone she handed him. "No problem then. You... you should change your clothes quickly!"
Glancing at the time, Vera hurriedly grabbed a paper bag and rushed to the bedroom to change out of her dirty clothes. She then noticed the bloodstains on her bedsheet. She quickly ran back, removed the sheet, and stuffed it into the paper bag as well.
