CHAPTER 177: CHAPTER 178: YOU’RE NOT PREGNANT AGAIN (2)
It was almost time for work to start; she had to leave promptly before the high-level staff arrived.
She grabbed the paper bag, her phone, and laptop from the desk. Noticing the two contracts, she quickly gathered them into her arms as well and hurried downstairs.
As she sat in the elevator, Vera Wave furrowed her brows again, thinking about his demeanor when he left.
That guy... he seemed genuinely angry this time. Could it be... he’ll ignore me from now on? If he ignores me, isn’t that what I wanted? But why do I feel so uneasy?
She returned to the Advertising Department in a daze. It was only when her colleague, Merlin Bradley, greeted her that she snapped back to reality and managed to force a smile.
Sam Davis happened to walk in. Seeing her, he immediately asked, "Vera, how’s the planning coming along?"
Sitting at her desk, Vera was like a mummy, turning a deaf ear.
"Vera?!" Merlin Bradley quietly nudged her. "The manager is calling for you!"
Vera Wave collected herself. "Ah... Manager. I’ve revised the proposal. I’ll print it out for you now and bring it over in a moment."
"Good."
Once Sam Davis was in his office, she quickly printed the documents and gave them to him. He looked them over carefully and handed them back.
"Hmm... good. Take this directly to the director!"
Vera Wave took the documents to Kate Palmer’s office. Kate Palmer, who was on the phone, signaled for her to sit and then took the documents.
After hanging up, Kate Palmer opened the documents and read them carefully. A moment later, she looked up.
"If I assign you this case, can you handle it?"
"Me?!" Vera Wave pointed at herself, her voice laced with disbelief.
I’m just a newcomer, on the job for less than a week, and Kate Palmer is handing such a big project to me!
Kate Palmer smiled. "Are you doubting my decision, or your own abilities?"
Vera Wave stood up from her chair. "Me? Are you serious?"
Kate Palmer looked up. "Do you think I’m joking?"
Vera Wave straightened up, her expression serious. "Thank you for your trust, Director. I will give it my all."
Back at Walter Wave Properties, I’d handled similar tasks and done them well. If she isn’t joking, then I have nothing to be afraid of.
"Very good!" Kate Palmer nodded, satisfied. "Get started on assembling your team. In two hours, bring your team to the conference room to meet me and compete with Kylo Sail. If you and your team win, the case is yours."
Looking at the young girl before her, Kate Palmer raised an eyebrow.
"Any questions?"
Vera Wave shook her head. "No."
With that, she turned and walked out of Kate Palmer’s office.
Sitting behind her desk, Kate Palmer watched the door close. A grin spread across her face, her eyes filled with admiration.
"Daring to compete with Maggie Clarke... a newborn calf truly isn’t afraid of a tiger. Well, let’s see just how capable you are."
Even though I wasn’t there, I’d already heard. In this little girl, I vaguely see a younger version of myself—courageous and talented... What this girl needs is an opportunity, and Ashton has never been a place short of them. Daring to use newcomers, daring to try, not sticking to conventions—this has been the biggest reason Ashton has remained so dynamic all these years.
