CHAPTER 238: CHAPTER 239 DON’T TOUCH ME

"Vera?!"

Upon hearing her scream, Kris Cooper’s heart tightened, and he almost dropped the salad bowl in his hand. Quickly putting the bowl on the floor, he reached for his phone.

"Vera, Vera..."

"Vera, are you all right?!" Nathan Leafcastle exclaimed, running past the carousel to help Vera Wave up after she had fallen to the ground. Vera pushed him away, looked left and right, then scurried over to pick up her dropped phone.

By then, Nathan had already extended his hand and grabbed her arm. Noticing the blood on her arm, he frowned and shouted.

"Someone come over!"

His assistant rushed over from a distance.

"Mr. Leafcastle?"

"Get the car ready!" Nathan ordered loudly. He took out a handkerchief and pressed it to the wound on Vera’s arm. "Vera, quickly... I’ll take you to the hospital."

Kris couldn’t have failed to hear such a loud voice over the phone. A note of confusion crept into his own voice.

"Vera, who are you talking to? Vera..."

"I’m fine!" Vera extended her hand, pressing the handkerchief herself. "It’s just a minor injury, nothing serious."

Pressing the handkerchief with one hand, she bent down to grab her phone.

"I’ll get it!"

Nathan picked up her phone first, putting it to her ear.

"Vera..."

On the other end of the line, Kris was still calling her name anxiously.

Hurriedly, Vera snatched the phone back with her injured hand and put it to her ear. "I’m here. I’m fine. I just... clumsily fell. Wait for me a bit; I’ll be back soon."

"No, you must go to the hospital now."

Supporting her arm, Nathan put an arm around her and, allowing no refusal, began to lead her away from the carousel.

"Who is that man?!"

Upon hearing Nathan’s voice, an alert tone entered Kris’s voice.

"Don’t touch me!" Vera uncomfortably pushed Nathan away, escaping from his grasp. Seeing the surprised look on his face, she hastily apologized. "I’m sorry, Mr. Leafcastle. I... I’m fine. I’m leaving now. Goodbye."

Dodging past a horse on the side, she ran off the carousel and sprinted towards the exit.

"Vera!"

Nathan chased her off the carousel. Watching her disappearing figure, his brows knitted together as he pursued her in long strides.

Over the phone, Kris heard the distinct panic in her voice and instantly lost all mood to cook.

He spun around and dashed into the living room, grabbing the car keys from the table. Without even putting on a jacket, he rushed out the door.

"Tell me, where are you? I’m coming right now."

"I’m at the amusement park... It seems to be..." Vera looked around. "This seems to be the east gate."

"Wait for me in a well-lit area, and keep your phone on. I’m coming."

Kris yanked open the front door, bounded down the steps, and jumped into his car. He gripped the phone in one hand and started the engine with the other. The sports car roared out of the alley.

DING!

Her phone made a soft sound. Vera lowered it to look.

"My phone... seems to be running out of battery. You don’t have to come; I can get back by myself."

"Is there a bus stop near you?"

Vera looked around. "There’s one."

"Wait for me at the bus stop. Then, text me the bus number and stop name. I’ll call you when I arrive. Do you understand?"

"Yes."

Vera hung up the phone. Cradling her injured arm, she walked toward the bus stop.

She looked closely at the route and stop name, took a picture, and sent it to Kris. Sighing, she turned and sat down on a waiting bench.
