CHAPTER 240: CHAPTER 241: STAY AWAY FROM HER

Kris Cooper didn’t even glance at the assistant. Carefully, he lifted Vera’s arm. Seeing the wound on her forearm, his amber eyes contracted instantly, taking on a frigid hue.

After carefully examining her and ensuring she had no other injuries, he sheltered Vera behind him before finally turning to properly face Nathan Leafcastle for the first time.

"Why did you hurt her?"

"Kris, it’s not like that... Brother Nathan had good intentions. I... I was just careless." Afraid he would lose his temper, Vera quickly grabbed his arm and gave it a gentle shake. "Let’s go home. I’m really tired and hungry."

Nathan Leafcastle had good intentions too, but his methods were a bit difficult for her to accept. Vera didn’t want Kris Cooper to clash with him; it was best to let the matter rest since it was already over.

Nathan’s gaze fell on Vera. "I’m sorry, Vera. I didn’t mean to hurt you."

"That’s alright. We’ll get going now." Vera shook Kris’s arm, her voice already carrying a hint of a coquettish plea. "Honey, let’s go!"

Yet Kris’s anger was hard to quell. Glancing at Vera beside him, he took a deep breath to suppress his fury, then raised a finger and pointed it at Nathan’s face.

"This is the first and the last time. Starting today, stay away from her, or else... you’ll face the consequences!"

"You..." Nathan’s assistant started to speak out but was stopped by Nathan.

Vera forcefully tugged Kris down the steps. Glancing at Nathan, who stood by the roadside, she wanted to say something but didn’t know what.

Just then, Kris had already opened the car door for her. She ducked down and slid into the car. Kris then shut the door and returned to the driver’s seat.

He reversed the car, glanced at Nathan by the roadside through the window, then slammed his foot on the accelerator. The car ROARED away.

「On the platform.」

The assistant said indignantly, "He’s just some rich heir! What gives him the right to be so arrogant?!"

"He’s not just any rich heir." Nathan watched Kris Cooper’s taillights recede into the distance. "That’s Kris Cooper."

"What?" The assistant’s expression changed. He didn’t recognize Kris Cooper the person, but the name was incredibly famous. "The heir to Ashton Real Estate?"

Nathan nodded slightly.

"So what?" The assistant scoffed dismissively. "He has no manners at all. How can he even compare to you, sir? What kind of taste does this Vera have, to fall for a man like that..."

"Shut up!" Before the assistant could finish, Nathan snapped, "You’re not qualified to judge her."

Hearing the anger in Nathan’s tone, the assistant quickly shut his mouth, daring not to utter another word.

Nathan stared down the road for a long moment before retracting his gaze and looking at the ground beneath his feet.

Seeing his actions, the assistant asked curiously, "What are you looking for?"

"A handkerchief," Nathan replied.

"Do you mean... the handkerchief you used to wipe Miss Vera’s wound?" the assistant asked cautiously. "The one that got quite messy? She took that one."

Nathan raised his head, looking in the direction the car had gone. "Let’s go back."

「In the car.」

Vera watched the amusement park’s Ferris wheel gradually disappear in the rearview mirror, and her mood finally, completely, began to relax.

Turning to look at Kris, who was driving, she noticed the blue, floral-print apron he was still wearing. She stared for a moment, then couldn’t suppress a light chuckle.

"Honey, why did you rush out wearing an apron?"
