CHAPTER 243: CHAPTER 244: THE LITTLE THING THAT DOESN’T UNDERSTAND ROMANCE
"Honey, let me explain. I didn’t go to meet Nathan Leafcastle; I only went because I thought you had invited me. The card didn’t have a name on it, and I assumed you sent the flowers?"
A card?
Flowers!
Kris Cooper smelled a rat.
"What card?"
"It was in the rose box I received first thing this morning at work. It only said to meet at the Amusement Park and didn’t name anyone... so... I thought it was from you..."
No wonder she had suddenly texted him to thank him for the surprise and said she wouldn’t miss it for the world.
"If I had known it was Brother Nathan..."
"Hmm?" The man’s voice sounded displeased.
Vera quickly corrected herself. "No, I mean Nathan Leafcastle. If I’d known he invited me, I definitely wouldn’t have gone... I only found out it was him once I got there. I wasted 200 USD for nothing."
She was already tight on money, but because she thought she was going on a date with Kris Cooper, she had bought a new skirt. If she had known it was Nathan Leafcastle, she would have saved the money. It wasn’t as if she didn’t have other clothes to wear.
Seeing the young woman’s regretful expression, Kris’s anger began to dissipate.
He got up, retrieved an ice pack from the fridge, wrapped it in a towel, and gently applied it to her nose.
"How did your hand get hurt?"
"When I realized it wasn’t you, I tried to find an excuse to leave. But Nathan... Nathan Leafcastle insisted I ride the carousel. He said it would help me regain a memory... Later, he tried to help me down. I don’t like him being close to me, so I tried to dodge him... and accidentally fell." She took a discreet peek at Kris Cooper’s face. "Honey, I’ve explained everything. You’re not angry with me anymore, right?"
Kris took her hand to examine the wound. Seeing it had scabbed over, he silently heaved a sigh of relief.
"Alright. Since you’ve explained everything so clearly, I’ll forgive you this time."
"Hehe!" She flashed a happy grin and leaned over to peck him on the cheek. "You’re the best, honey! Oh, right... Honey, did you prepare that steak?"
"Yes!"
"Then..." She wrapped her arms around his neck, nuzzling her face against his affectionately. "Can you cook now? I’m starving!"
He knew it. This sudden affection, the hugs and kisses, definitely had a motive! The little glutton, willing to trade charm for a steak.
Kris deliberately made things difficult.
"Cooking steak requires a good mood, which I don’t have right now."
"Oh, is that so..." Vera frowned, thinking. "How about I tell you a joke?"
"My lips are dry. I can’t laugh."
"Then I’ll go get some lip balm for you."
She was about to stand, but before she could rise from her chair, he put a hand on her shoulder, stopping her.
"No need. You can just share some of what’s on your lips with me."
Clueless little thing. She didn’t even know to offer a kiss, so he’d just have to take it himself.
What was on *her* lips?!
Vera pressed her lips together. Finally understanding his implication, her face turned red. Lowering her lashes, she leaned in and gently pecked his lips. Just as she was about to pull back, the man captured her mouth with his.
He kissed her thoroughly, deeply. Just before releasing her, he lightly bit her already swollen, reddened lips—a result of his passionate assault. Satisfied, Kris finally stood up.
"I’ll go make the steaks. Meanwhile, you go change into that 180-dollar dress."
Since the dress was bought for him, he ought to appreciate it properly. Though he hadn’t looked closely earlier, the color seemed to suit her quite well.
Vera’s small eyebrows furrowed. "Didn’t you say it was hideous?"
"I just want to see how ugly you look in it!"
