CHAPTER 35: CHAPTER 35 A DATE WITH A BEAUTIFUL LADY (1)

Vera Wave didn’t mind being demoted by Emily Baker.

To her, it didn’t matter what kind of work she did as long as it wasn’t her dream job; it was all just about making money anyway.

No longer having to deal with Emily Baker as her direct superior and her constant mood swings attributed to menopause, Vera actually felt somewhat relieved.

Emily Baker had expected to see disappointment, resentment, suppressed anger—expressions like that—on Vera’s face, but the outcome clearly disappointed her.

"Okay, thank you, Director Baker."

Still smiling pleasantly, Vera picked up her resume from the table and turned to leave.

Watching Vera’s slim figure depart, Emily Baker pursed her lips resentfully.

"Vera." Isla Hawskin, who had been closely following Vera’s situation, immediately stood up when she saw Vera emerge from the office. "I have a spare seat over here."

"I’m not in this office," Vera walked over, smiling as she replied.

"Don’t tell me she assigned you to the Archives Department?"

"No, the Logistics Department?!"

"What?!" Isla cried out indignantly. "The Logistics Department?! Are you serious? Is that even a place fit for humans?"

"Keep your voice down." Vera took her arm. "It doesn’t matter where I am, as long as I get paid. I’ll go report in now."

Isla sighed. She sympathized with Vera but felt helpless. She was just a new employee herself, still in her probationary period and barely able to look out for herself, so she certainly couldn’t help Vera much.

She just muttered a string of curses under her breath in all the English, Japanese, and Korean she knew.

"Well, you go on ahead then. We’ll have lunch together at noon."

"I have something on at noon..." Vera thought for a moment. "Let’s make it tomorrow. My treat."

After work, she would go to Eden to collect her commission. Then she’d have money to treat Isla to lunch tomorrow to thank her for helping find this job.

Although it was rotten luck running into Kris Cooper, at least her job was secure for now. She wouldn’t have to worry about next month’s living expenses.

If she could just find a part-time job, she could also earn the money for the caregiver’s fees.

"Ooh, someone’s got a date!" Isla teased with a knowing smile. "Alright, tomorrow it is then."

After seeing Vera out of the office, Isla gave her directions to the Logistics Department. "Just head south from here all the way to the end, then turn right."

Saying goodbye to Isla, Vera clutched her resume and hurried towards the Logistics Department.

Following Isla’s directions, Vera headed south and turned right at the end of the corridor. Sure enough, she saw an open door with a plaque that read "Logistics Department."

Just as she reached the doorway, she saw a middle-aged woman and a younger girl struggling to carry a large box. It was laden with pens and other office supplies. As they neared the door, the younger girl’s hand slipped, and the box tilted precariously.

"Watch out!"

Without a second thought, Vera rushed over and helped her steady the box.

"Oh, thank you so much!" The slender young girl flashed Vera a grateful smile.

"It’s no problem."

Vera smiled back and then helped the two carry the box into the office, placing it in a corner of the room.

The Logistics Department office was clearly a tier below the neat Partition Rooms of the Administration Department.

Against the right wall stood two desks, each topped with a rather old-looking computer.

Apart from two chairs, the rest of the room was filled with wooden shelves. These shelves were neatly organized with various office supplies, sorted by type.
