CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: SHE DARES TO SHOW DISCONTENT TOWARDS HER

She dialed three times, but the line was busy each time.

The fourth call finally went through.

"Hello, this is the finance department of Skywalk Games."

The tone of the person on the other end was sweet and polite.

With the other party being so courteous, Vera Wave naturally softened her tone.

"Hello, I’m from the administrative department. A lady just called and asked for six cups of coffee. I’m a new employee and am not clear what ’established practice’ she mentioned is, so I wanted to ask."

The voice on the other end instantly sharpened. "Are you saying you haven’t even bought the coffee we asked for?"

"I’m sorry, Yola and the other lady aren’t in, so..."

"Enough!" The other party interrupted Vera’s explanation impatiently. "One Americano, two lattes, three cappuccinos. Get them here within fifteen minutes!"

SLAM!

Without a goodbye or a thank you, not even giving Vera a chance to catch her breath, the other party had already hung up brusquely. It was clear she had slammed the phone down!

Vera put the receiver down, rubbed her aching ear, took the note detailing the specific requests, and left the administrative office.

Despite it being her first day of work, Vera was very familiar with the office building’s surroundings. The Starbucks Coffee shop was just around the corner, not far from the building, about a five-minute walk.

She went downstairs and easily found her way to Starbucks. The coffee shop was crowded, so she had to wait in line.

She bought six medium coffees as requested. After paying, her wallet held only a pitiful two USD.

You really are a fool!

Vera mocked herself with a smile, picked up the coffee, and headed back.

Taking the elevator to the 28th floor, she couldn’t find room 2808. However, she spotted the entrance to the finance department from a distance and walked over to ask for directions.

Walking through the automatic doors, she saw four women and two men chatting in the cubicles.

"So, what does the new CEO look like? I heard he’s incredibly handsome. Is it true?"

"How could that be fake? Even our Chairman said he’s incredibly handsome!"

"Does he have a girlfriend?"

"Give it a rest! Didn’t you see the previous scoops on Facebook...?"

...

The group was deep in their animated conversation, completely oblivious to Vera’s presence.

"Ahem!"

Vera coughed lightly, finally drawing the attention of a girl in a pale yellow shirt.

Seeing the girl turn, Vera immediately smiled and began to speak.

"Excuse me..."

The girl looked at Vera, puzzled. Her gaze fell on the Starbucks Coffee bags in Vera’s hand, her eyebrows shot up, and her expression turned cold.

"Do you have a watch?"

A watch?

Vera smiled. "What do you mean?"

The girl sneered. "Look at your watch! You have no sense of time. It’s been half an hour, and you only just brought the coffee. We’re about to have lunch. Tell me, should I drink this coffee or not?!"

Vera now recognized the girl’s voice; it was the same sharp, unpleasant voice from the phone.

Hearing the sting in the girl’s words, Vera decided to ignore it. She placed the two bags of coffee on the table and held out her hand toward the girl.

"That’ll be 146 USD. Please be quick, I have other things to do!"

The girl’s gaze swept over Vera’s outstretched palm, and her eyebrows rose again.

Those two from the administrative department would usually be falling over themselves with apologies if they were late. How dare this new girl show such an attitude after being late?
