I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO
Chapter 39: Slap in the Face (1)
CHAPTER 39: CHAPTER 39: SLAP IN THE FACE (1)
He who understands the situation is a wise man!
I’m just a newbie on my first day, while the other person is a company veteran.
I don’t have any surveillance footage, photos, or audio recordings. If it really comes down to a confrontation, there’s no way their colleagues would side with me.
Justice?
I might have naively believed in it before, but I’ve long since realized that such a thing is pure bullshit!
If Kris Cooper could be my interviewer on his first day, then this Tommy Taylor must hold a significant position in the company.
As the saying goes, ’A big tree offers good shade.’
Since such a strong backer has practically presented himself to me, I’d be a fool not to lean on him.
Leaning affectionately against his shoulder, Vera tugged it down, bringing her lips close to his ear.
"Help me smooth this over, or I’ll expose your ’glorious history’! You definitely wouldn’t want the whole company to know you clawed your way up by selling your ass, right?"
Kris Cooper had initially been softened by her sweetly cooed ’dear,’ but her following words left him rather speechless.
This silly girl... does she really think I’m some kind of gigolo?
Of course, Kaiden Wilton couldn’t possibly know what these two were thinking.
However, Vera’s ’dear’ was enough to send a shiver down Kaiden Wilton’s spine.
Good thing I came back in time, and with the CEO no less! If this isn’t handled properly, and the CEO’s girlfriend feels slighted... a little pillow talk from her, and my position as Director of the Finance Department could be on the line.
At this thought, his gaze fell upon the ’Finance Department Beauty’s’ still rather pretty face, and a wave of inexplicable anger surged within him.
"What exactly happened?"
It was only Kris Cooper’s second day at the company.
So far, only the executives in the CEO’s Office and a few other senior managers knew who he was. The low-level employees in the Finance Department certainly had no idea of his identity. Seeing that he was good-looking but wasn’t even wearing a company badge, they naturally paid him little attention.
"Director!" the ’Finance Department Beauty’ began, her face a mask of grievance. "We were swamped and really short-handed, so I just asked her to get a few coffees. But she didn’t just get the order wrong, she was rude too! I only said a few words to her, and she hit me! I was so furious, I threw the coffee at her. If you don’t believe me, ask Andy and Jeffery. They both saw it!"
Just as one might expect, the ’Finance Department Beauty’ immediately dragged her colleagues in to back up her story.
Faced with a choice between a nobody newbie and their own colleague, the finance staff naturally sided with their ’Beauty.’
"Director, this new girl is way too arrogant."
"Yeah, Director, you should have heard her! Such foul language!"
...
As Kaiden Wilton listened to these statements, all clearly supporting the ’Finance Department Beauty,’ he gritted his teeth, on the verge of erupting. Just then, he heard Kris Cooper chuckle softly.
"So, beautiful," Kris Cooper began, "you claim my girlfriend hit you. Where did she hit you?"
"She..." The ’Finance Department Beauty’ stammered, taken aback. "She... she slapped my face!"
Kris Cooper turned to Vera. "Did you?"
"No."
"If you did it, admit it. Be honest."
"I said I didn’t, so I didn’t!"
Vera really wanted to strangle this guy. Whose side was he on anyway?!
Kris Cooper crooked a finger at the ’Finance Department Beauty.’ "Come here, beautiful."
The ’Finance Department Beauty’ didn’t quite understand his intentions but walked over anyway.
