I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO
Chapter 65: Scars
CHAPTER 65: CHAPTER 65: SCARS
Vera Wave lay prone on the bed. After waiting for a moment, and when Kris Cooper didn’t continue, she thought, A hundred thousand USD for the night, and it’s over after just a couple of touches? With her eyes still closed, she then spoke lazily, "What are you doing... Hurry up and massage... Ah..."
As she finished speaking, she opened her mouth and let out a huge yawn. To be honest, this guy has probably served plenty of people before; his technique is quite professional, no worse than a professional masseuse. By now, she was completely relaxed, already at the gates of dreamland.
Kris Cooper snapped back to reality, placed his hands on her shoulders, and continued the massage. "Were you injured back then?"
"Not serious, just minor injuries." He let out a soft sigh of relief, yet his tone still held a trace of heartache. "Then... to not remember anything, it must have been very hard for you, right?" Imagine, not knowing who you are, or what happened to you... It must be incredibly painful, right?
The young woman, still lying prone with her eyes closed, replied, "No, I think it’s quite alright. It’s like getting to live life over again, and such chances don’t come often, do they..." Her voice trailed off, growing quieter and quieter until her words became indistinct.
She’s forgotten him completely, and she seems to be taking it so well! Kris Cooper’s fingers tightened as he reached to pull her closer. He didn’t manage to move her, but he did dislodge her bathrobe, pulling it away from her. Vera Wave, already half-asleep, didn’t react. Kris Cooper, however, noticed a distinct scar on her back.
It stretched diagonally from her left shoulder blade area down towards her right side, about the length of his palm. Although he had seen her back before, he hadn’t examined it closely. This time, being so near, even the faint mark was startling. It was an old scar, almost invisible unless one looked carefully. The edges of the scar were smooth, indicating it was likely inflicted by a sharp weapon. Considering its length and width, it wasn’t hard to imagine how severe the original injury must have been.
He had seen her body before and knew she hadn’t had this scar then. Therefore, the only explanation was that she had received this injury after returning from the United States. Yet, her medical records from her hospitalization only mentioned minor injuries.
How did she get this scar? Was it connected to her amnesia? And her depression—was it really caused by the car accident? What exactly happened to this young woman?
His fingers gently traced the scar on her back, and his other hand, resting by the bedside, slowly tightened its grip.
He had to find out the whole truth. If someone had harmed her, he would make them pay, without a doubt.
"Don’t move... It tickles..." Vera Wave murmured softly, her hand rising to wave unconsciously in the air.
Kris Cooper turned his head to look. He saw the young woman’s long eyelashes resting on her cheeks; she was already sound asleep. She fell asleep just like that? Isn’t she afraid he might actually do something to her?
"Damn you, Kris Cooper... You... you... go away..." Unaware of what she was dreaming, she murmured softly again.
He raised his hand to brush aside the stray strands of hair from her cheek. Gazing at her peaceful, sleeping face, the resentment he had harbored for so long slowly began to dissipate.
"All these years, I’ve misjudged you. I’m sorry." He lowered his head, kissing her hair. His nose gently brushed through her locks, then touched her shoulder. The skin beneath his nose felt just as soft and smooth as he remembered, carrying a light, fresh fragrance.
He pressed a gentle kiss to her shoulder, then lay down beside her, carefully drawing her into his embrace. "This time, don’t even think about escaping!"
