CHAPTER 83: CHAPTER 83: HE’S GOT THIS LITTLE GIRL COVERED!

Kris Cooper lifted his face, gazing at Vera Wave who sat across from him.

The little girl was sitting up straight like a primary school student, her fingers fiddling with the edge of the sofa. It was obvious she was still quite nervous.

He softened his voice. "Are you willing to work by my side?"

Vera Wave instantly nodded like a pecking chick and fawningly said, "Mr. CEO, you are so charismatic, handsome, and courteous! Working by your side wouldn’t just be a feast for my eyes; I’m certain I could also learn a great deal about management. I would absolutely love to!"

She’d sweet-talk him first; he always loved hearing flattery anyway. With her meager abilities, he definitely wouldn’t let her actually stay and work. As long as he didn’t fire her, everything would be fine.

Even though he knew the crafty girl was deliberately laying on the praise, Kris Cooper’s lips still curled into a smile.

"Alright, you can go back to the Logistics Department for now!"

Vera Wave’s anxious heart finally settled back into her chest. She shot him a sweet smile, quickly stood up, and made her escape.

Reaching the door, she grasped the door handle and turned back around.

Meeting Kris Cooper’s questioning gaze, she hesitated, as if wanting to say something but then thought better of it.

"Anything else?"

"No, no."

"If you have something to ask, just ask. No need to be so formal with me."

"COUGH!" Vera Wave averted her gaze slightly. "Um... may I ask you a question? Please don’t get angry."

"Go on."

"Um..." Vera Wave looked down, her voice small. "That night... did anything actually happen between us?"

Kris Cooper stood up and walked over to her. "Why do you ask?"

"Because..." Vera Wave bit her lip. "I... I’ve never... done *that* with anyone before. But I... I didn’t bleed that night!"

She was too frantic at the time, but after thinking it over carefully, something didn’t feel right. She had never slept with any man before. If something had truly happened between them, she should have at least bled.

Kris Cooper raised an eyebrow, then his expression seemed to clear as if in understanding.

She doesn’t remember anything from before, so of course, she wouldn’t remember what happened between us either. Listening to her, it seems no other man has touched her these past few years.

She belongs only to him!

The thought brightened his mood considerably.

Vera Wave surreptitiously glanced at his face. Seeing that he wasn’t angry, she continued, "So... that night, did we... or didn’t we? Please, don’t misunderstand! I’m not doubting your... abilities in that department. I just don’t think you’re the kind of person who would take advantage of someone’s vulnerable situation. Did we... actually sleep together or not?"

Looking at him with pleading eyes, Vera Wave anxiously awaited his answer.

"I have a meeting to attend. You can go back to work for now!"

Kris Cooper opened the door and strode out.

Vera Wave stood by the door, utterly speechless. What on earth did he mean by that? Did they or didn’t they?!

She hastily chased after him out the door. "Mr. CEO!"

"Tommy Taylor, inform the finance department we’re resuming the meeting!"

Seeing Tommy Taylor stand up, Vera Wave had no choice but to swallow her question and reluctantly walk out of the CEO Office.

Watching her fading silhouette, a subtle smile played on Kris Cooper’s lips.

"Also, call the Administration Department and have her transferred from the Logistics Department to my office."

"And..." Tommy Taylor turned his head. "What about her position?"

Kris Cooper slowly uttered four words.

"Personal Special Assistant."

"Hmm..." Tommy Taylor paused, considering for a moment. "If that’s the case, I’m afraid it might stir up some gossip within the company."

Kris Cooper chuckled.

Gossip?

He would let everyone know this young woman was under his protection!
