I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO
Chapter 87: The Feeling of Being Kidnapped into the Wolf’s Den
CHAPTER 87: CHAPTER 87: THE FEELING OF BEING KIDNAPPED INTO THE WOLF’S DEN
Manager Wang led her all the way into the CEO Office. Tommy Taylor, who was sitting at the desk outside Kris Cooper’s office, immediately stood up and pushed open the door to the CEO’s inner office.
"Miss Wave, please come in!"
"Assistant Taylor." Vera glanced at the open door. "Are you... mistaken?"
"No, I’m not!" Tommy raised a hand in an inviting gesture. "From now on, you’ll be working in there!"
In there?! Vera’s eyes widened. This was Kris Cooper’s office. Surely, she wouldn’t be expected to spend all her working hours with him, would she?
"Well, Assistant Taylor, I’ll leave her in your hands now." Manager Wang patted Vera’s shoulder. "Work hard, and if there’s anything you need, feel free to ask."
"Oh, thank you."
Vera thanked him. Looking at the open door, she braced herself and walked in. Kris Cooper was not in the office.
"Mr. Cooper is in a meeting and won’t be back for a while," Tommy explained.
Vera breathed a slight sigh of relief and scanned the spacious office. She saw only Kris Cooper’s desk; there was no sign of any other.
It made sense. The CEO’s office naturally wouldn’t have a second desk prepared.
"There isn’t a desk for me here either. Perhaps... I should work outside?" Vera turned her face to Tommy and asked hopefully.
She definitely didn’t want to share an office with that big bad wolf. A man and a woman alone together... the thought alone felt dangerous.
"It would be better to discuss this with Mr. Cooper!" Tommy responded with a smile. "You report directly to Mr. Cooper for your work; I don’t have the authority to make that decision."
His words shattered her illusion.
"I have work to do, Miss Wave. Please, make yourself comfortable."
Tommy exited, gently closing the door behind him. Hearing the door click shut, Vera’s heart gave a lurch.
Why did she suddenly feel as if she’d been lured into a wolf’s den?!
She looked left and right, then at the box in her hands. Resigned to her fate, she placed the box on the coffee table. When she noticed the door leading to the terrace, her eyes lit up, and she walked out onto it.
In fact, she wasn’t unfamiliar with this office.
Before this place was known as Glimmer Building, its occupant had been her father. Back then, she could come and go as she pleased—enjoying the view and feeding the fish on the terrace, or tumbling on the large bed in the lounge area...
The entire building had been redesigned and refurbished, becoming unfamiliar. However, the layout of the terrace had largely retained its original appearance.
Beneath the wisteria pergola—which her father had re-established at her suggestion—golden koi still swam among the pebbles.
She walked over and crouched by the pond. When the koi saw someone approaching, they immediately swam over, waiting to be fed.
"You’re the only ones who haven’t changed."
Vera smiled. With practiced ease, she found the fish food on a nearby shelf and tossed in a few pellets. Several koi immediately swarmed to eat greedily.
She sat down on a large, round stone nearby, hugged her arms, and watched them feed.
Her thoughts inadvertently drifted to the past. Back then, her father was still alive. Whenever he saw her, he would always come over and gently pat her head...
When Kris Cooper returned from his meeting and entered the office, the first thing he noticed was a small cardboard box on the coffee table that hadn’t been there before. He glanced around but saw no one. Then, through the glass window, he spotted a small head by the pond outside and strode onto the terrace.
Seeing the young woman staring abstractedly at the koi in the water, his heart ached with a sudden tenderness, and he gently placed his palm on her head.
