CHAPTER 127: CHAPTER 124 THESE ARE ENOUGH_1

Chen Chaoyang, along with the soldier and Nannan, were led into the Yindan Base. Winding through the city streets, they arrived at a high wall. This was the great separating wall between the poor and the privileged, with many people fantasizing about the day they could pass through and live that superior life in the post-apocalypse world!

The soldier took out a pass and waved it in front of the guards, who promptly opened the gate. Chen Chaoyang and his associates crossed the threshold under the envious gazes of onlookers.

The sights inside the Yindan Base were much like those in the Qinshan Base: Survivors rendered numb and listless, strewn about. To those unaware, they might have appeared dead, but the shallow rise and fall of their bellies revealed they were still alive. If someone died in the base, their corpse would be promptly removed by the base’s staff.

As for where the bodies were taken, nobody knew and nobody dared to ask.

They were led by the soldier to a large square building where they stopped. The soldier turned and respectfully said, "Please wait here while I report some matters."

"Sure, go ahead."

Chen Chaoyang casually responded, lifting his head to survey his surroundings. He had an inkling of what the soldier might be reporting. He believed it would not be long before someone came to meet him, probably a person in a position of power at the Yindan Base.

"What’s the name of the person in charge again?"

"I think his surname is Yan," Li Xiaoyan replied.

"Ah, Yan... Yan Zhaofeng! That’s the bastard!"

Chen Chaoyang suddenly remembered. Yan Zhaofeng was quite the hardliner. Before the apocalypse, he had been a high school principal. When the black rain of the apocalypse fell, he happened to have gathered all the students and faculty for a meeting. None were hit with the rain which led Yan Zhaofeng, using his skilled rhetoric, to brainwash everyone into following him.

The principal was somewhat competent, as he managed to lead all the students to the newly established Yindan Base shortly after the apocalypse. The things they did along the way though were shady, to say the least.

In this damned post-apocalyptic world, Yan Zhaofeng reigned supreme. As emperor, he did as he pleased with female students...

(Sorry, almost went off track.)

Upon arriving at the Yindan Base, Yan Zhaofeng himself evolved into a New Human, and eight or nine of the students under him did as well. The turbulent events of New Humans uprising escalated, largely due to Yan’s provocations!

After the uprising, Yan Zhaofeng became the ruler of the Yindan Base. He had several loyal New Humans among his former students, along with being a New Human himself, so it was only natural for him to seize control. Whenever a new New Human appeared, he would try to recruit them, and, to show his importance to them, would greet them personally!

At the beginning of the post-apocalyptic era, Level 1 New Humans were extremely rare, let alone Level 2 New Humans. According to Huachen Jiangtian’s records, China had only produced a total of 14 documented Level 2 New Humans!

How rare was that? There might be some undocumented Level 2 New Humans, but on this vast Chinese land, the mere 14 documented was astonishing!

Just how many Level 2 zombies were there? Each time soldiers were dispatched to exterminate zombies, they would discover at least three Level 2 zombies in the city, let alone countless Level 1 zombies!

All in all, the number of evolved zombies was at least five to six times the number of New Humans. Furthermore, the combat capabilities of New Humans were far inferior to that of zombies of the same level. They could only just manage to win using their weapons!

Level 2 New Humans were so rare that they were virtually nonexistent in bases like Yindan and Qinshan, which were predominantly occupied by Level 1 New Humans!

Chen Chaoyang and Li Xiaoyan, carrying Nannan, waited for a moment. Soon, the same soldier who led them in came out accompanied by a tall, skinny man in a suit. This was Yan Zhaofeng.

As soon as Yan Zhaofeng approached Chen Chaoyang, he warmly extended his hand. It was clear he knew how to deal with people.

"Nice to meet you; welcome to Yindan Base. Let’s head in and chat."

"Oh, okay."

Despite knowing that Yan Zhaofeng had an agenda, Chen Chaoyang, being just a teenager, didn’t know how to deal with the cunning man and awkwardly responded.

With that, they followed Yan Zhaofeng into the building and underwent an hour-long reception ceremony.

As darkness began to fall, time seemed to fleet by. Tang Ye was standing on top of a rotting zombie corpse. Checking his watch, he noted it was already 8:43 PM, nearing nine.

After putting on his mask and ensuring his zombified skin was entirely covered, Tang Ye looked towards Ah Fu.

He wanted to bring Ah Fu into the Yindan Base, but its massive body would have easily been noticed. Thus, he had to leave Ah Fu outside temporarily. Once he finished what he needed to do, they could regroup.

Being able to enter the Yindan Base meant he could search for Ning Yu’er. The mere thought made him excited, the sensation akin to one looking forward to seeing their long-term crush.

Growing up, Tang Ye had always been met with cold indifference. Without power or money, everything he had was earned by his own hands, yet he also held on to a beautiful childhood dream. His little sister had once promised to marry him. He’d believed his ending would be as wonderful and perfect as a fairytale, but when Chu Yunxuan uttered those words filled with materialistic values, he finally understood: He had always been an unwanted fool!

How laughable!

That realization left him in despair, lost, uncertain of what he should or shouldn’t do. He had contemplated suicide, but the idea of death was too painful. Tang Ye was mundane, too mundane to summon the determination to end his life!

The apocalypse arrived. He thought it was a damn curse, but surprisingly, it provided him with many things. No more did he have to deal with people’s contempt, and he could exert control over other’s lives as easily as slaughtering zombies. How enticing?

What did it matter if he became a zombie? As long as he obtained what he desired, he would go along with it. Plus, he had someone who cared about him.

People have a tendency to want what they lack. Tang Ye lacked care and attention, which made it his most desired thing. Despite its scarcity, he was content with what he had received!

He’d carefully planned to meet Ning Yu’er again. Not just because he wanted to, but primarily because he was afraid he might never see her again. He didn’t like that feeling!

To rid himself of this fear, he was willing to create a bloodbath of corpses. After all, it wasn’t his concern.
