CHAPTER 134: CHAPTER 131: UNAWARE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE SITUATION_1

Watching the drunkard die right here, Yan Jie stood there dazed, feeling a void in his heart. He didn’t know where to go next. His enemy was dead, but he couldn’t feel happy. That’s how people are. When they have a goal, they will chase it frantically. But once the goal is achieved, they fall into a short-lived emptiness.

Once a person’s goal is set, it brings a glimmer of hope to their life’s path, stirring up their innermost aspirations. But when the goal is met, a momentary emptiness ensues.

Seeing Tang Ye leaving, Li Xiaoyan’s eyes flashed, and he quickly followed. Chen Chaoyang just glanced at Yan Jie and followed Tang Ye as well.

Yan Jie looked at Tang Ye’s towering figure and paused. The confusion in his eyes seemed to be driven away, and as if possessed, he also ran after him. He didn’t know why he wanted to keep pace with Tang Ye, but it seemed like a voice inside him was guiding him.

It felt as if following this "person" was the right thing to do!

The silhouette of Tang Ye and the others disappeared into an alley. They had just killed someone, but they didn’t feel uncomfortable. The cold-hearted nature of people only hardened with the arrival of the apocalypse. What Tang Ye didn’t notice, though, was a surveillance camera in the corner silently recording everything that had just happened.

After walking for a while, Chen Chaoyang hinted to them that they were nearing their quarters. At this point, Tang Ye stopped, turned around, and looked at Yan Jie, who had been following them all this while.

He had noticed this young man following him earlier. However, Tang Ye decided not to engage him right away, assuming the man perhaps needed something from him. But now, after all this time, why wasn’t he saying anything?

Feeling Tang Ye’s scrutinizing gaze, Yan Jie felt uncomfortable all over. For some reason, this man gave off a strange vibe. Initially, he thought Tang Ye was an evolved being due to his tall and imposing stature. However, upon evolving, he discovered that this "person" showed no signs of being flesh and blood!

Neo-humans have unique senses. They can perceive the difference between an ordinary person and a neo-human!

Ordinary people generally have a normal flow of vital energy, except for a few who have martial arts training, whereas neo-humans have a much stronger flow of vital energy, which can be distinguished by its intensity.

But Yan Jie was unable to detect any vital energy from Tang Ye, this "person". Nor could he detect any sign of life. Tang Ye was entirely like a person without any signs of life!

However, even though Tang Ye seemed strange, Yan Jie never thought of Tang Ye being a zombie. He knew too well what zombies were like, as anyone surviving the apocalypse did!

If a zombie appeared in a survivor base, it would have been slaughtered immediately. Not to mention he was holding a baby girl just now and even talking to humans!

Anxiously, Yan Jie stared at Tang Ye, his mind running over how to face what Tang Ye would say to him.

Tang Ye’s eyes swept over Yan Jie in the darkness, and only after a long while did he speak: "What do you want from us?"

"Uh... I... Thanks for helping me get revenge. But... I don’t know where I should go now. So, I can only... for now... follow you guys."

"Help you get revenge? ... Was it that guy just now?"

"Yes, that guy. He killed my brother, so I went to take revenge. If it wasn’t for you, I would have surely failed. But... don’t worry. You helped me get revenge, and I will definitely repay you. I have nowhere else to go now, so I can only beg you to take me in."

"Repay? ... How do you plan on doing that?"

Seeing Tang Ye’s confusion, Yan Jie, who was originally expecting an immediate, affirmative response, was caught off guard by his question.

Helplessly, he looked at Chen Chaoyang for assistance, but Chen Chaoyang quickly shook his head and said, "Bro, don’t look at me like that. We’re both at his mercy here. He calls the shots, not me. I can’t help you."

"I..." Yan Jie was lost for words and gave Tang Ye an embarrassed look, who sat there unmoved, his Deva mask’s eyes seeming to mock him.

Yan Jie took a deep breath, gathered his courage, and firmly said, "Thank you for helping me get my revenge. It’s only natural that I repay you. As for how I will do it, I’m ready to become your workhorse, and I will never betray you. Please believe me! I have nowhere else to go now."

Upon hearing that, a gleam of mockery flashed in Tang Ye’s eyes. In the darkness, no one could see the terrifying white pupils behind his mask.

"Never betray... heh, are you talking to me, hehe."

"Yes." Yan Jie affirmed confidently.

"Even if I’m not who you think I am, or not human?"

"Yes."

"Hehe."

Tang Ye let out a piercing laugh, causing Yan Jie’s ears to itch uncomfortably. He wanted to scratch them, but he thought he better wait until Tang Ye was finished.

Tang Ye’s eyes shone with amusement. He thought this young man was a bit naive. Anyone could make promises, but how many could keep them? Especially now, during the apocalypse, promises and vows were as valuable as farts!

He didn’t want this youngster to follow him, due to his own peculiar identity. If his secret was exposed, he would become a prime target, and all the people in the base would gang up on him. Even though Tang Ye wasn’t afraid—he was a level 3 zombie and knew his strength full well—he still believed he could escape unscathed even if the whole of Yindan base was to attack him. However, this kind of trouble wasn’t from the martial power in the base, it was from Ning Yu’er here.

He was in a dilemma. On one hand, he wanted to see Ning Yu’er, but on the other, he didn’t want her to see him here. He could wantonly slaughter the survivors here, but he didn’t want her to witness the heinous acts he had committed!

Seeing Yan Jie’s solemn vow, Tang Ye wondered what Yan Jie would do if he found out Tang Ye was a zombie.

Would he tell the base leader about him?

Or would he keep Tang Ye’s secret?

In short, Tang Ye didn’t trust him. However, this youngster seemed to have some value left, maybe he could squeeze some more out of him. Once he was of no use, it was best to get rid of him.

However, one condition had to be met for this. He could not find out that Tang Ye was a zombie!

"What’s your name?" asked Tang Ye.

"My surname is Yan, and my name is Jie." he replied.

"Yan Jie, huh..."

"Yes, that’s right!"

"You would never betray me, right? No matter who I am, or even if I’m not human?"

Upon hearing Tang Ye’s last words, Yan Jie, who had been excited thinking that Tang Ye had agreed, froze. He couldn’t comprehend what Tang Ye meant by that.

"What could ’not being human’ possibly mean?"

Yan Jie hadn’t yet realized the gravity of the situation, but on an impulse, he nodded fiercely in agreement.

From then on, Yan Jie climbed on board Tang Ye’s boat of deception, never to get off again.
