CHAPTER 135: CHAPTER 132: A STORM BEGINS_1

A cold smile appeared on Tang Ye’s face hidden beneath the mask, but regardless of how he smiled, he still appeared dreadfully grim.

"Alright, let’s go. Chen Chaoyang, lead the way!"

"Sure thing! Big brother!" Chen Chaoyang replied.

They proceeded deeper into the alley, accompanied by a few people and a non-human.

Having received Tang Ye’s approval, Yan Jie felt a subtle glee in his heart. Glancing at Chen Chaoyang and Li Xiaoyan, he realized he wasn’t alone anymore. Where he went and what he did no longer mattered.

"We’re here!"

Once they arrived at a courtyard, Chen Chaoyang called out. He looked around subconsciously, ensuring there were no other strangers around before taking out a key and unlocking the gate. They then entered a main hall.

There were very few New Humans. Most of those living in the Noble Zone were New Humans, their servants, or their relations. During daytime, only a few people could be seen on the streets.

Chen Chaoyang switched on the light, revealing the interior furnishings. The furniture was neither luxurious nor shabby, and it had been arranged in a cozy manner.

It was Yan Jie’s first time in the Noble Zone. He gawked left and right - he hadn’t seen such dwellings for a long time in the months of the apocalypse. Wooden furniture had been burned for warmth during the early apocalypse, especially in the slums where he lived.

Most houses were in disorder and unhygienic. He had lived amidst such filth. When his older brother went missing, he had felt solitude for the first time. He despised this feeling deeply.

During his student years, he was a victim of school bullying. He had been extorted by local thugs more than once, each time too angry but too afraid to stand up.

Being beaten up was a common occurrence for him. But today was the first time he had taken part in overwhelming a minority with numbers, a feeling of guilty pleasure that proved irresistible. Each person has another side to them, a side full of wickedness!

He went from the victim to the aggressor. His transformation was a consequence of those initial encounters.

Everyone has a past they keep hidden. Often, what you despise the most is what you eventually become. But there’s not much to do, it’s like they say, one craves most what they lack the most.

As the lights illuminated the main hall, Tang Ye walked towards a sofa and slumped down comfortably, as if he was at his own home.

With eyes shut, he began pondering about what to do when he eventually met Ning Yu’er. To be honest, he wasn’t as magnanimous as before.

Would he just meet her once and then leave forever? That was impossible. Greed remains in the heart of a man, even in a zombie. If he truly were to meet Ning Yu’er just once, he wouldn’t be satisfied.

He wanted to say something to her but didn’t know how to approach the matter. If he were to travel all this distance just to say "I love you" and "I can’t bear to let you go", wouldn’t that seem...artificial!

It was he who had insisted on sending her to the safe zone in the first place. Now he was regretting it.

Tang Ye indeed regretted it. He tried hard to come up with a plausible excuse. But whatever explanation he thought of didn’t seem reasonable.

While Tang Ye was lost in his thoughts, he didn’t notice Chen Chaoyang, and the others, standing awkwardly together. His large body occupied half the sofa, presiding intimidatingly over the rest of the room.

Chen Chaoyang and Li Xiaoyan knew Tang Ye’s secret, hence they were afraid of sitting too near him. This left Yan Jie unsure of what to do, standing awkwardly close to the other two men.

"What are you standing around for? Get to work!"

Tang Ye had noticed the three standing and wanted to order them to open their eyes, but considering Yan Jie was there and he might suspect something, Tang Ye decided to send them away.

"Oh, yes, big brother!"

Chen Chaoyang immediately complied, pushing the other two out of the room. As they were on their way out, Tang Ye’s voice called out again.

"Chen Chaoyang! Come here, I have a task for you!"

"Ah! Oh, yes, yes, yes!"

Chen Chaoyang walked to Tang Ye’s side and stood there, respectfully.

"Tomorrow morning, fetch me a pair of black contact lenses."

"Contact lenses? Uh... okay, got it."

Chen Chaoyang was stunned for a moment, but quickly recovered to acknowledge the command.

Tang Ye gestured for him to leave. As soon as Chen Chaoyang left, they could hear giggles from Nannan outside the door.

The following morning, Tang Ye sat in front of a mirror in a room, his ghastly zombie face staring back at him. He was holding a small delicate box.

This box, just recently delivered by Chen Chaoyang, contained a pair of contact lenses.

He quickly opened the box. Tang Ye looked at his own eyes. His pupils were grey and white as if the eyeball was gone.

Of course, that wasn’t true, it’s just that the iris had turned white. This white is even brighter than the sclera.

It wasn’t visible unless one looked closely.

Tang Ye picked up a lens, hesitating as he looked at his reflection. He didn’t know what wearing it would feel like, but he worried about the discomfort.

"What’s there to be scared of, f*ck, I’m already a zombie!"

Taking a breath to calm himself, Tang Ye pressed the contact lens directly onto his eye.

The process was uneventful. After putting on the lens, he moved his eyeballs around. He could see his movement in the mirror.

"Not bad."

Tang Ye sighed as he put on the other lens. Chen Chaoyang had given him pure black lenses, but on him they turned light brown. It was a bit odd, but with the mask on, no one would suspect they were fake.

Tang Ye just wanted to make sure no one suspected him of being a zombie.

His eyes now looked somewhat normal in the mirror. He put on his mask and draped the hood over his head, heading out the door.

Right as he stepped out, he saw Li Xiaoyan rushing over.

"Ah, boss, that woman you mentioned, the one named Ning ... We’ve asked around and we can’t find any clues about her!"

"No clues? What are you doing back here? Go back and keep looking!"

Hearing Li Xiaoyan’s words, Tang Ye’s eyes turned cold. He replied in a frosty tone.

"No, that’s not it. We found something else. Yan Jie has been captured! And Young Master Yang was beaten up by a group of New Human soldiers that appeared out of nowhere. He is seriously injured and we don’t know where he is!"

Li Xiaoyan said anxiously. Not long after they had left, they were surrounded by the Yindan Base’s New Human Troops. Chen Chaoyang and Yan Jie were New Humans and stood out, so they were taken. Li Xiaoyan, being a regular person, was ignored. In the ensuing chaos, he had managed to escape.
