CHAPTER 1775: CHAPTER 1769 MORE IMPORTANT MATTERS

After a brief moment of peace, the expression on Lu Xiaojie’s face struggled once more. Just a second ago, she pondered what purpose Tang Ye served in her life. The emotions between them were not deep. To put it plainly, it was just a relationship where the other needed me, and I needed them, very simple.

In daily matters, they helped each other; it was the most basic thing. But when faced with special situations, she had to consider the cost of helping the other!

With no better choice, she could only choose the option that wasn’t entirely acceptable but still passable. However, after making this choice, she now realized that there was no turning back. Once she failed, there was no chance to start over. She didn’t know the current state of Tang Ye, but the cost of choosing whether to help or not now extended beyond death.

But even if she didn’t help, her end would be the same as "death." Since it already came to death, why hesitate?

Sighing, she murmured to herself, "Let’s hope it doesn’t get worse..."

She squeezed her hand and waited a little longer in front of the enormous painting. Seeing no change, she turned and walked away.

Her steps were like the smooth surface of a lake untouched by the wind. The ups and downs of the ground no longer affected the height of her body. Step by step, she walked further, her figure becoming smaller and smaller, and she walked higher and higher!

She walked toward the horizon, out of the atmosphere, into a vast, colorful, vibrant space that was boundless and infinite. The colors in her vision danced and twisted, forming different things, but yet very indistinct.

She continued walking further, slowly, gravity gradually increased. She felt her body growing heavier, and before long, the swirling, twisting vibrant colors disappeared. Gray mist of unknown origin obscured everything around her.

Perhaps she had reached her destination; her steps finally stopped, and when she looked up, she saw a gigantic heart towering high above!

It was a heart so immense it was indescribable!

The moment she looked up, her vision was entirely filled by this heart! The thick blood vessels were like ancient tree roots that had grown for millennia, tangled and drooping down!

The heart beat powerfully with each thump, and slowly, Lu Xiaojie’s ears were no longer silent. She heard the sound it made with each beat!

Thump!

Thump!

Thump!

The sound of the heart beating was loud, as if someone were hammering on a giant bell with each stroke!

Swoosh~

Taking a deep breath, mentally prepared, Lu Xiaojie’s face grew resolute. She took a few running steps forward and then leaped up, grabbing hold of the closest blood vessel above her head. After climbing up, she started to walk along the vessel toward the heart above.

Step by step, she moved slowly but meticulously, fearing she might fall. As for what might happen if she fell, only she knew. The closer she got to the heart, the more it shrank from its immense size. By the time she arrived in front of it, it was as small as a car.

"I’m sorry, Dairya, I didn’t want to do this, but... I’m sorry... if you’re willing, please let me in."

Standing before the heart, she didn’t enter immediately but lowered her head and murmured. After speaking, she raised her head, extending a hand slowly toward the thumping heart. Her hand moved cautiously, testing its attitude. Before long, her hand touched the heart, but she felt nothing. Lu Xiaojie’s expression was surprised, and she more boldly reached further. At that moment, the heart seemed like something only existing in the retina but, in reality, didn’t exist at all, as her hand passed effortlessly through!

This scene seemed to frighten Lu Xiaojie; she swiftly pulled back her hand, then looked down at it. When she raised her head again, her expression grew exceptionally complicated.

"You..." She wanted to say something, but her voice choked with emotion. At this moment, she seemed to see the beautiful girl, angelic in appearance, who once handed her food amongst swarms of corpses.

She agreed to her request!

It might have been for her or for Dairya, but precisely because of this, Lu Xiaojie became reluctant. She began to hesitate, uncertain whether to help Tang Ye. Perhaps in the future, she would find a better solution! And now, even if Dairya suffered, at least she was still alive. As long as one lived, there would always be a day when the beauty of the world could be seen.

Yet, once she chose to help Tang Ye, any future guilt and regret would be irreparable!

Before her lay two choices. Regardless of which she chose, they were undoubtedly cruel, throwing Lu Xiaojie into helplessness. She didn’t know what to do, her body slowly growing weak, knees bending until she knelt. Wrapping her head in her arms, her helplessness turned into grievance, then she burst into tears.

"Dairya... Dairya... I’m sorry! I’m really sorry... I really don’t know what to do... I’ve really tried my best, I’ve found so many people, some ignored me, but most were powerless... I’m sorry... he might be the last one... I’m sorry..."

Lu Xiaojie’s voice echoed in this space for what seemed like ages when she seemed to hear something?

She hesitated for a moment, then stopped crying and looked below. The sound was from all the blood vessels connected to the heart curling upwards. These vessels seemed to want to reach Lu Xiaojie, but lacked strength, arching upward a short distance before falling back down.

Seeing this, she froze momentarily, then heard some more sounds. These sounds were very vague, echoing heavily, like whispers heard from the neighboring house upon waking at night, very unclear.

"Sister... Sister..."

She listened closely, and after understanding these words, her face lit up with joy. She quickly shouted in all directions, "Dairya? Dairya! Is that you?"

Just after shouting, she immediately realized something was off, quickly switching to another language to repeat her words. As soon as her voice fell, there was a prompt response.

"...It’s...me..."

Upon receiving a response, Lu Xiaojie was so excited that even her tone began to tremble.

"It really is you! How are you feeling?"

"I... am... fine... no... need... to... worry... about... me..."

"That’s good... that’s good..." Dairya’s voice was gradually becoming clearer, which reassured Lu Xiaojie, but what followed was a daze. She repeated those three words, only to be interrupted by Dairya’s voice once more, bringing her back to reality.

"Sister... so glad... to... see you... again... but now, you should have more important things..."
