I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 1792 - 1786: Breaking Out of the Cocoon
CHAPTER 1792: CHAPTER 1786: BREAKING OUT OF THE COCOON
This scene left the man in camouflage even more puzzled. The people in the convoy ahead seemed to fear those blocking them at the checkpoint. But considering there should be several Level 6 New Humans here, they shouldn’t be so cautious.
Just as the man in camouflage was about to call the convoy members back into their vehicles, Old Huang returned. The moment the man in camouflage saw him, he asked, "What happened up ahead?"
Old Huang, panting heavily, leaned against the car window to catch his breath for a moment before responding to the man in camouflage, "Brother Yue, we should leave quickly, we can’t get through."
"Why can’t we get through? Who’s up there? Are they from the Cloud Gorge Base?"
"No! I heard them say they’re from some place called the Royal Court."
"The Royal Court? What Royal Court?"
"I don’t know either, but we can’t pass right now. There’re a bunch of Level 8 New Humans blocking the way. Before, we could still talk our way through, but now a woman has taken over. A single wrong word and she’d smash the cars; ignore her warnings and they’d kill you."
"Are there Level 8 New Humans ahead?"
"Yeah, several of them!"
The news shocked the man in camouflage. He had anticipated some difficulties for this mission but never expected it to end before it even began. He had wagered everything, his entire Mercenary Group, on this. How could he abandon it so easily?
He hesitated, contemplating whether to turn back. But as the convoy ahead began to turn around one by one, their turn soon came. From a distance, several burly men from the prairie approached, wielding fierce, active weapons, looking ferocious as they drove the crowd away.
"Hurry up! Get moving!"
"What are you all dawdling for up front? Get lost already!"
"You over there, stop standing around. When trouble comes, you won’t even know how you died!"
Even before those men got close, the man in camouflage felt the intense aura from the Level 8 New Humans, causing his hair to stand on end!
Not long after, a young man who seemed easy to talk to approached the front vehicle of their convoy and tapped on the window. Brother Yue quickly got out of the car, jogged over to him, and grinned obsequiously. As he bent over, he laughed and said, "Big brother, what’s happening up front? I’m not here to cause trouble... just trying to get by, you understand."
Despite Brother Yue’s deferential manner, the young man remained unmoved. As soon as Brother Yue finished speaking, the young man coldly retorted.
"Stop talking nonsense. Get moving; it’s for your own good."
"But..." Facing the young man’s firm tone, the man in camouflage showed signs of struggle. Before he could finish his sentence, a girl who looked only about fourteen or fifteen walked over from nearby. Though she seemed harmless and didn’t exude any dangerous aura, her first words were chilling!
This girl was Liang Hanyang!
"Get moving now. I’ll count to three, and if you don’t budge, I’ll break your legs so you won’t have to leave!" As soon as the young girl finished speaking, several powerful men with Level 8 abilities surrounded them, the pressure of their sturdy presence making Brother Yue and his group shiver.
Smiling bitterly, in this situation, no matter how unwilling he was to leave, Brother Yue had no choice. The apocalypse had no restraints on the powerful; if they wanted to act against someone, there was no justice to seek even if they died.
However, the costs to get here were unimaginable. They had drained all their resources just to purchase war machines, which left every member of the convoy reluctant to leave easily.
Brother Yue’s expression grew increasingly conflicted. He wanted to plead for leniency from these people ahead, but just as he opened his mouth and uttered the word "I," he noticed the Level 8 New Humans all suddenly turned their gaze towards the cocoon in the center of the basin.
"What’s that noise?" The young man from before looked grim, as did the other Level 8 New Humans. Only the man in camouflage and his members appeared puzzled, having sensed nothing yet.
Liang Hanyang, looking no more than fifteen years old, glanced at the cocoon in the center, initially showing joy on her face, but quickly her expression changed dramatically as she remembered something!
"The boss seems to be coming out, but we need to retreat quickly!" With that, Liang Hanyang didn’t hesitate for a moment, leaping into the air. The other Level 8 New Human powerhouses with Brother Yue also swiftly shot into the sky, dashing towards the distance at incredible speed, their silhouettes disappearing like lightning from view!
As for him and his convoy, though clueless about the exact reason, they were survivors with keen senses for danger. Seeing Liang Hanyang and the others panic and flee, Brother Yue and his group also turned pale!
"Get in the car! We’re leaving!"
If the Level 8 New Humans couldn’t handle it, what could it possibly be?
He dared not hesitate for a moment. Despite the temptations of ample rewards that could drive someone mad with greed, sanity ultimately prevailed when life was at stake!
Everyone quickly got back into their vehicles. Before the car doors could be shut, the engines roared to life, and the convoy rapidly reversed, turning around to speed away. From inside the car, Brother Yue glanced towards the cocoon’s direction. Seeing nothing unusual, he sighed in relief, starting to doubt if the Level 8 powerhouses were merely intimidating him.
But just as this thought crossed his mind, he noticed the vehicle’s speed inexplicably slowing down?
"Drive faster!" he shouted at the driver. But the driver, sweating bullets, gripped the steering wheel with whitened knuckles, showing just how much effort he was exerting.
The driver tried to respond but was so nervous that his words stumbled out, finally managing to get his sentence out after struggling for a while.
"It’s not... it’s not me not trying! The gas! The gas pedal is already pressed to the floor!"
"What are you babbling about?" Brother Yue cursed, a sense of unease creeping in. Looking outside, he saw other vehicles moving at the same sluggish pace. Glancing at the driver’s floor, he realized he wasn’t lying; the pedal was indeed floored!
"Brother Yue, look outside!" someone shouted. Brother Yue hurriedly looked at the desert outside, only to find that all the sand in the basin was flowing towards the cocoon in the center!
At that moment, all color drained from everyone’s faces!
