CHAPTER 46: CHAPTER 43: THE MALE LEAD CAME LOOKING 3
After the people left, under everybody’s watchful eyes, Jiang Mingyue opened the package Manager Zhuang brought.
"Sister, is there candy?"
Kids of this era always love candy the most!
Jiang Mingyue patted his head: "Didn’t I buy you so much candy that it’s not enough for you to eat? ... It’s malt extract, even tastier than candy. Third Sister, go to the kitchen and get six bowls, I’ll make some malt extract for you all to drink."
Jiang Mingyue was very pleased, it was kind of Manager Zhuang to remember her. She decided she would supply his medicine from now on.
Apart from two cans of malt extract, there were also two sets of women’s ready-made clothes, which Jiang Mingyue handed to Jiang Zhenmei without hesitation.
"Yueyue, this is Terylene! You should keep it for yourself to wear." Jiang Zhenmei truly felt it was a waste for her to wear it, as the fabric was too nice for someone who works in the fields every day.
Jiang Mingyue forced it into her hand: "I’ve bought so much fabric and you’ve made each family member two sets of clothes, yet you didn’t make any for yourself. Take it, these two pieces are for you. Also, this pattern only suits you."
Mrs. Jiang wouldn’t wear this kind of pattern, and she personally disliked floral designs, preferring plain dark blue fabric. Ideally, a white shirt and green pants. She really liked those retro things from the future.
The two brothers sighed, as they both had new clothes to wear, especially the eldest brother: "I can finally say my wife won’t have to wear patched clothes anymore."
Mrs. Jiang glared at him: "It’s all thanks to your fourth sister being capable, you guys hurry up and go hunting on the mountain. And be careful."
"Got it, Mom."
"Eh? Mom, are you going to open the package Jin Zhi gave you to have a look?"
Mrs. Jiang was taken aback: Who did you say sent it?
Everyone was surprised: So that’s how their mom cluelessly accepted someone else’s gift without knowing! This explains it, otherwise with Shen Fanghua’s personality, she would only send good things to benefactors, where would she turn around and accept something?
Mrs. Jiang became flustered: "Jian Guo! Go, go ask your cousin where he arranged for someone to stay, quickly return the stuff to him. What a foolish mistake I’ve made!"
Just as Jiang Jian Country was about to run out the door, Jiang Mingyue stopped him.
"Mom, in my opinion, we shouldn’t return it. It’s fine if he lacks something, but does he look like he’s lacking? If you return a gift he has sent out, he might get really angry! Since it was sent here, let’s keep it. At worst, invite him over for a meal if we have good food."
Mrs. Jiang thought about it and agreed.
The brothers and sisters totally trusted her; whatever she said was right.
Jiang Mingyue didn’t realize that she was gradually becoming the backbone of this family, the major steward.
The few packages Yan Jinzhi brought were finally opened under Jiang Mingyue’s administration.
This was much more abundant.
There were malt extract, canned beef, canned pork, canned fish, several bags of White Rabbit candy, beef jerky, nuts, chocolate, and dried fruits, all edible, making little Jiang Ran drool all over his hand.
"Sister, I, I have never seen so many delicious things."
Jiang Mingyue felt a bit heartbroken, for him, and for the children of this era, comparing them to the children of the future, who not only have abundant food, but even limited edition sneakers to wear.
"Don’t worry, from today on, Xiao Ran, you’ll have whatever you want."
"Really?"
"Of course it’s true. So, do you want to drink a bowl of malt extract first?"
Third Sister had already dutifully made six bowls of malt extract with warm water as Jiang Mingyue instructed.
Third Sister felt a bit guilty: As an adult, she shouldn’t be so greedy.
But Jiang Mingyue had everyone drink, saying it was a taste of happiness, which made it hard for anyone to refuse.
"It’s so good! Fourth Sister, can I have more tomorrow?"
"Of course, from now on our Jiang Ran can have some every day."
However, Jiang Mingyue thought to herself: although it tastes bad, it’s the most famous nutritional product of this era, even more than milk powder. Then again, she suspected it was because milk powder couldn’t be produced in large quantities and was hard to come by.
Similarly, Mrs. Jiang wanted to have Jiang Mingyue keep these things, but was refused, as they were not meat.
"Mom, just leave them in the cupboard in the main room, anyone who wants some can take it themselves. From now on, our family will never run short of these things."
Mrs. Jiang, though a bit uneasy, wanted her daughter to hide them for herself, but her daughter was too understanding for her to insist.
"Alright, let’s follow Yueyue’s advice. But Jian Guo, Jian Jun, you’re both grown men now, you should eat less of these sweet things."
Jiang Jian Country and Jiang Jian Jun: They wanted to ask their mom why grown men should eat less sweets, but didn’t dare to. Also, they suspected she just didn’t want them to eat them.
Jiang Zhenmei and Jiang Mingyue stifled laughter: Their mom was so adorable!
After sending food to Granny Shi, Jiang Mingyue thought of Uncle and casually asked, "Xiao Ran, has your dad gone back to the city?"
Little Jiang Ran honestly shook his head, still petting his coal with his small hand.
"No, Grandma locked his bicycle, he can’t leave."
Jiang Mingyue was stunned for a moment, but didn’t intend to interfere, though she would still take care of meals.
"Then I guess your dad hasn’t had dinner yet, want to bring him a bowl?"
"Okay."
Saying a bowl meant a real bowl, Jiang Mingyue filled a bowl with enough rice, added plenty of fried ribs and shepherd’s purse scrambled eggs, covered it with an empty bowl, and placed it in a basket for Xiao Ran to take.
Back at the old house, since the afternoon after splitting up the family, the old lady claimed to be ill and stayed in bed.
Wu Cuilan, usually scrambling for cooking to skim the cream, unexpectedly went on strike tonight, and spent the afternoon making veiled accusations.
Mostly cursing the fourth family, Liang Yan Yan, calling her ungrateful, accusing her of stealing account books and deserving to be abandoned by her husband. She even cursed little niece Jiang Hui, calling her an ungrateful wolf like her mother, saying she deserved divine punishment, had an ugly face that no one liked, and would certainly not get married when grown up.
Jiang Hui couldn’t stand it, she wanted to fight with Wu Cuilan several times, questioning how she dared to insult her and her mother, but was held back by Liang Yan Yan.
"Mom..."
"Xiao Hui, do you bark back at a mad dog barking? We’re human."
Jiang Hui: "..."
With her mom’s words, Xiao Hui didn’t feel so aggrieved inside anymore.
"Mom, I saw Ms. Ming Yue."
"Hmm"
"I feel like she’s different from Zhenzhu, the cousins and Zhenmei cousin seem to really like her, and it seems like Xiao Ran likes her too. He’s been sticking to her like a tail these days."
Liang Yan Yan smiled: "Jealous much?! Does Xiao Hui also want to be Ming Yue’s little tail?"
"I, I’m not!"
"If you want, you can, you’re her sister, too." Most importantly, with Jiang Ming’an finally showing warmth towards her family, after all, when Zhenzhu was around, Jiang Ming’an always seemed indifferent. Yet, now, having barely met Ming’an, he and Ming Yue often talk closely, so intimate, that is what true siblings are like!
Wu Cuilan, tired of cursing, went back to her room, opened the cupboard to eat her hidden biscuits, and downed a big bowl of sugar water, finally feeling comfortable.
All the while, she never once cared whether other people in the family were hungry.
