CHAPTER 466: CHAPTER 466: COME HOME FOR DINNER

Song Yuanhuan and Little Moon went to the nearby Military District Hospital. In this day and age, there weren’t many specialized vet clinics around, so Song Yuanhuan had no choice but to take Little White to the Military District Hospital. Fortunately, the physician there was an acquaintance. The hospital frequently treated military dogs, so the doctor was quite adept at tending to Little White’s injuries.

"The injury is quite severe," the colleague said after treating Little White and wrapping the wounds. Looking concerned, he continued, "You can take him home and care for him, but even if he recovers, his normal walking might still be affected." During the dressing of the wounds, the little dog behaved so gently and quietly. Then, looking at Little Huang, who silently followed and watched over her pup with worry, the doctor couldn’t help but feel a pang of empathy.

Such an intelligent and perceptive little dog! It was truly a pity!

"Woof woof..." Whether or not Little Huang understood the doctor’s words, she let out a sorrowful bark, then stared at Little White with eyes brimming with reluctance and pain.

"Thanks for all your help today," Song Yuanhuan said, having noticed Little Huang’s almost humanized behavior. After all, they had lived together for several years. Usually, even though the dog would often compete with Song Yuanhuan or compete with his younger son for attention, as a mature adult male, Song Yuanhuan never really held a grudge against an animal. Besides, Little Huang looked especially pitiable right now.

"Think nothing of it," the doctor in the white coat said softly, then watched Song Yuanhuan carefully hand the bandaged Little White over to Little Moon. "You’ve got him, right?"

"Yes!" Little Moon nodded firmly. "Daddy, Little White will be alright, won’t he?" Little Moon understood some of what the doctor had said and thus asked Song Yuanhuan in a low, distressed tone.

"Yes, he will be," Song Yuanhuan replied with confidence. Given his wife’s remarkable abilities, he recalled how his own leg had been deemed beyond repair after a severe fracture—a death sentence—and now he was not just walking but more robust and agile than before. So Song Yuanhuan instinctively believed that his wife wouldn’t bear to see Little White dragging two disabled hind legs in the future.

"Yes, I believe Little White will definitely get better," Little Moon replied, breaking into a smile and then resolutely heading out with Little Huang dutifully following beside.

Song Yuanhuan, Little Moon, Little Huang, and Little White didn’t spend long at the hospital. Upon returning home, Little White was already bandaged up, but when Xu Xiuxiu learned that Little White’s hind legs would take at least a month to heal and that walking might be impacted, her brows furrowed with concern.

After entering the house, Little Huang ignored Little Xiao Huang and Little Black, running straight to Xu Xiuxiu and barking twice in an imploring tone, full of entreaty.

Everyone stared dumbfounded at Little Huang and then looked at Xu Xiuxiu, while the astute Song Yuanhuan guessed what was happening and silently commended Little Huang in his heart. This creature was too clever; it took him, Xu Xiuxiu’s husband, quite some time to recognize Xu Xiuxiu’s exceptional traits, yet the dog had sensed it and even pleaded with Xu Xiuxiu to help Little White.

"Don’t worry, trust me, Little White will be alright, okay?" Xu Xiuxiu said, patting Little Huang’s head, speaking as if to make a promise.

Little Huang barked twice as if to respond, but in that gaze between Little Huang and Xu Xiuxiu, she could see gratitude in the dog’s eyes.

Due to the incident with Little White, Little Moon didn’t mention wanting to go out for a walk downstairs after dinner, saving Xu Xiuxiu the effort of convincing the youngster. At first, she was worried Little Moon wouldn’t listen.

However, perhaps out of guilt, Xu Xiuxiu felt that Little Moon was even kinder to Little White. At the dining table, if a chicken leg tasted good, Little Moon would eat half and give the rest to Little White. After watching Little White finish the chicken leg, the little one would enthusiastically ask, "Does it taste good?"

And Little White would always respond in a sweet, milky bark to Little Moon.

As it turned out, Song Yuanhuan was right. Little White, whom the doctor had speculated might not recover well, was back to eating, sleeping, running, and jumping after two months, arguably more spirited than ever, probably thanks to Xu Xiuxiu feeding him fruit a couple of times.

Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, the eighties had quietly slipped away. When Xu Xiuxiu came to her senses, they had stepped into the nineties. That year, Song Yuanming had just graduated from the university. He started a transport business with the reminders and support of Xu Xiuxiu. He was university educated but humble, and having had real-world experience working alongside Xu Xiuxiu, Song Yuanming knew how to work hard.

Furthermore, with the help of his older brother Song Yuanhuan—because the Military District each year had a number of demobilized soldiers needing employment—Xu Xiuxiu suggested that Song Yuanming consult Song Yuanhuan, which concurrently solved a lot of personnel issues for him. The transport company officially began operating. Since soldiers are known to endure hardships, and Song Yuanming treated his employees generously, the company quickly got on track in less than six months. Song Yuanming’s firm took over the transportation route from Z city to Imperial City, even handling all of ’Promise’ clothing’s transport needs.

"Hey Sister-in-law, I need your advice on something," Song Yuanming said one day after following his crew on a long and tiring trip from Z City to Imperial City, which, while profitable, was exhausting. He came to their house for dinner and brought it up during the meal.

"What is it? Is there a problem with the transport company?" Xu Xiufu asked seriously.

Over the years, Song Yuanming had developed a good relationship with her and wasn’t the boy who used to deliberately provoke her anymore. Moreover, due to his studies, he acted quite sensibly and now, as a boss, the rare uncertainty on his face was striking.

"It’s not about the transport company," Song Yuanming quickly clarified, then his expression returned to a touch of embarrassment: "Actually, I’ve started seeing someone, and I was thinking of bringing her to meet you sometime!"

As he spoke, his face lit up with a smile, showing how excited the young man was.
