CHAPTER 15: OUR TRIBE LEADER GOT POSSESSED?!

The warriors of the Vixeria Tribe, along with the other strong beastmen—including Roxanna’s husbands—finally managed to kill all the demon beasts after fighting for more than two exhausting hours.

Huts were broken apart, fences were ripped open, claw marks covered every surface, and the ground was dark with blood, whether from beastkin and demon beast blood mixed together.

Some warriors dropped to their knees the moment the last bear fell, their chests rising and falling with heavy breaths. Others leaned on their weapons, too tired to even speak.

Calen and Cyrus lay on the ground like salted fish, most of their clothes torn apart from the battlefield. But since they never cared about clothing in the first place, they didn’t even bother trying to cover themselves.

Azul and Luan had saved as many weaker beasts as they could, but because the demon beasts’ attack came so suddenly, they didn’t have enough time to save everyone.

Many beastkin were covered in deep wounds, and not everyone had the quick healing abilities of stronger beastmen. Some would have to wait days—maybe longer—before their injuries closed.

"Please! Please! Someone save my son!" one of the beastwomen screamed from the top of her lungs. She held her son’s face in her lap, crying every time she looked at the wide-open wound on his stomach.

They could try treating the less serious injuries, at least until their natural healing abilities managed to close them. However, it was impossible to save those who had severe wounds, such as gaping injuries in their stomachs, nearly severed arms or legs, or other life-threatening conditions.

"We need a healer!"

"We should beg another tribe for help!"

"I’ll run to the nearest tribe!"

"Hurry!"

"You don’t need to do that," Roxanna said as she walked toward them. Her face looked a bit pale, and her breathing sounded slightly heavy. Behind her, Zeir carried three waterskins—animal-skin water bags—in his hands. His expression didn’t look good at all, almost as if he was trying very hard not to kill someone standing nearby.

"What do you mean?!" Marlow, the commander of the warriors, shouted at her. The leftover adrenaline from the battlefield still rushed through his blood, making him impatient. "Are you planning to let your people die because of your selfishness?!"

Usually, every tribe had at least five healers or someone with healing abilities. But since the Vixeria Tribe was led by the pink fox beastkin, they didn’t need other healers because their healing abilities surpassed all other beastkin.

Unfortunately, ever since Loba and his wife died, the evil Roxanna had never been willing to give her precious blood to heal others. She always said, "Why should I suffer for someone else? Only idiots would slice their skin just to save another person!"

Honestly, she kind of had a point with that.

But the problem was, she and her family had forbidden other healers from entering their tribe. So of course, they were responsible for their people’s health.

"You don’t need to find healers from another tribe," Roxanna said with a small smile. "My healing ability is stronger than anyone else’s."

Even though her words sounded narcissistic, for some reason, the beastkin felt she didn’t have any malicious intention like she usually did.

"I’ve gathered my blood in these waterskins." She pointed at the bags Zeir was holding. "Use as much as you need, and if anyone doesn’t get enough, I can—"

"Are you really our leader?!" one of the beastkin suddenly shouted, cutting her off. "There’s no way you’re our leader!"

"Yeah, yeah, she’s probably a mimic!"

"We should cut her chest open to see if she’s one of us or a monster!"

Roxanna’s eyes widened. Were they seriously saying that out loud?!

Whether she was a mimic or not, she would still die if they cut her chest open!

[No, Host. Your healing ability is extremely strong. There are only two ways to kill you:

1. Decapitate your head.

2. Burn you until you turn to ash.]

[So, technically...] Roxanna spoke in her mind. [If I get torn apart by demon beasts, but my head is still attached to my neck... I’ll stay alive?]

[Ding! Ding! Correct!]

[As long as your head is still connected and your body isn’t turned into ash, you won’t die.]

Well... that sounded scarier than death itself.

That meant... if someone tortured her, froze her, or ripped her body apart, she would still live through all of it.

[Fucking hell! I’d rather die than go through that kind of torture again!]

The system replied. [How do you know you will be tortured? You cannot predict the future, Host.]

Roxanna bit her inner lip, thinking the same thing.

However, wasn’t it obvious?

Everyone hated her now, and if they weren’t bound by the old oath, they would have peeled her skin off already.

Oh, right, the old oath... if they cut her chest open now, they could explode as well.

"Who are you planning to cut open?!" Calen suddenly roared, jumping to his feet despite being exhausted. "If anyone touches my wife, I’ll cut off your hands!"

"What? What did he say?!"

"He’s defending her? Oh gods, that’s it, the void is going to open right in the middle of the settlement tomorrow!"

"What kind of bad omen is this?!"

"Bad omen, my ass!" Calen shouted again. "What’s wrong with defending my female?!"

Everyone in the settlement fell silent at Calen’s words.

Roxanna thought they might be touched because Calen defended his abusive wife, but oh... she was very wrong.

"That dog must be a mimic too!"

"Agree! Agree! Agree!"

"Let’s cut his chest open too! Hell, let’s cut open ALL of these mimics!" They pointed at Roxanna and each of her husbands.

"Agree! Agree! Agree!"

Who the hell kept shouting "agree" this whole time?!

"Why do you need to make things complicated?" Roxanna finally spoke. "If you want to know whether I’m a mimic or not, you can test it with my blood."

The beastkin exchanged looks, then nodded together. "Agree! Agree! Agree!"

"Shut up before I cut off your tongues!" Luan suddenly snapped.
