CHAPTER 49: CHAPTER 49 ARE YOU SAYING MY MOM IS LYING?
Xia Liang gave Lin Xin an odd look.
He wasn’t an idiot. He knew she had brought along a third wheel as an excuse to get out of the date.
"Since you’re busy, you should go take care of it," he said calmly.
"It’s fine, it’s fine!" Lin Xin said, a little frantically. She couldn’t let him go without getting a clearer picture.
After all, if Xia Liang is really a great catch, letting him get away would be a massive loss, wouldn’t it?
She turned and pushed her best friend. "If she got hit by a car, send her to the hospital! I’m not a doctor, so I can’t help. You go check on her first! I’m busy here!"
As she spoke, she shoved her best friend, Ye Qingqing, forcefully.
Ye Qingqing was stunned by Lin Xin’s actions. This wasn’t in the script. Shouldn’t you be the one frantically getting up to escape this date? What’s happening...
"Hey? Hey?"
Before she could say more, Ye Qingqing yielded to Lin Xin’s insistent glares and left.
Lin Xin sat back down, feeling a little embarrassed about what had just happened. However, she quickly composed herself and said apologetically, "Sorry about that. I can’t believe something like this happened on our first blind date."
Xia Liang looked at her and waved his hand dismissively. "You don’t need to apologize, and don’t be nervous... we’re probably not going to work out anyway."
????
Xia Liang’s words completely threw Lin Xin for a loop. But, fortunately, she was someone who had weathered a few storms. Composing herself again, she flashed a sweet smile. "Actually, I’m quite happy with you. You’re very handsome."
Hearing her praise, Xia Liang replied out of politeness, "Thank you."
Then, he looked Lin Xin up and down. "But you’re just average-looking..."
...
Lin Xin’s mouth twitched. She fought the urge to throw her coffee at him and forced a smile. "Sorry, I don’t look as good in person as I do in my photos."
She thought that would be the end of it, but her words only seemed to spur Xia Liang on. "I’ve seen your photos. They weren’t that great either... They weren’t edited at all. No filters, or anything. But I’ll give you this, they were definitely... authentic."
What the hell!
That one-two punch made her grip tighten, and the ceramic cup in her hand creaked under the pressure.
What’s wrong with this guy? He’s so handsome, but it’s a pity he has a mouth. Can’t he speak properly?!
Lin Xin’s chest heaved as she tried to calm her rising anger.
Unbeknownst to them, in the seat right behind them, someone was desperately trying to stifle her laughter. This person was none other than the manager of Yunni Cafe, Qingxue.
She had seen Xia Liang the moment she arrived at the cafe. This made her ecstatic, as she assumed he had come specifically to see her. But just as she was about to go over and say hello, another woman arrived. So, Qingxue found a seat behind them and sat down. After listening to their conversation for a bit, she was shocked to realize Xia Liang was on a blind date.
This irritated her. Ignoring a great beauty like me to go on a blind date! Is he looking down on me?
She was just about to go over and cause some trouble when Xia Liang launched into a textbook display of an oblivious man’s blind-dating tactics, which nearly made her howl with laughter. But she couldn’t laugh out loud, terrified that the pair in front of her would notice. She could only hold it in, her entire body trembling as she tried to stifle her mirth.
For a full half-minute, Lin Xin was in a trance, hypnotizing herself.
He has a sports car! He might be a super-rich bachelor! You can’t miss this chance! Snag him, and you’ll be living the life of a wealthy socialite! He may be brutally blunt, but he’s handsome!
She stared at Xia Liang’s dashing face and finally managed to suppress her anger. Just as she was about to change the subject, Xia Liang spoke first.
"Do you have any hobbies?"
Lin Xin’s eyes lit up. This was, by far, the most normal thing Xia Liang had said since she had arrived. Breathing a sigh of relief, she replied in a casual tone, "I do. I like listening to music, watching movies, things like that."
She said this deliberately. If she had mentioned that she liked shopping and buying things, Xia Liang might have called her a materialistic gold-digger. This way, he can’t possibly criticize me again, right? Lin Xin thought smugly.
Unfortunately, she had severely underestimated Xia Liang.
His eyes suddenly widened. "Don’t tell me you’re one of those legendary ’fujoshi’? The kind who watches movies like *Brokeback Mountain* and, as they say, ’sees gay couples everywhere’?" he asked, then swallowed audibly. "GULP."
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The sound of someone banging on the table came from behind them. It was Qingxue. She couldn’t take it anymore and had to find some way to vent, or else she felt she might suffocate from holding back her laughter.
What kind of logic is that? Compared to this woman on a date with him, Xia Liang was so much nicer to me. If he was just an oblivious guy around me, then with this woman, he’s oblivious on a whole other level!
For a moment, Qingxue even felt a little flicker of happiness. A man like that would be the safest boyfriend to have. After all, no one would be able to flirt with him.
Back at Xia Liang’s table, he saw Lin Xin grinding her teeth, looking as if she wanted to eat him alive.
"Are you all right?" he asked cautiously.
Lin Xin didn’t answer. She just glared at him for several long seconds before hissing through clenched teeth, "I don’t watch those kinds of movies! I’m a ’homebody’... the kind who likes to stay home and doesn’t go out much! Not the kind who ’sees gay couples everywhere’!"
By the end, her voice was practically a low growl.
Seeing her reaction, Xia Liang couldn’t help but mutter, "If you’re not, you’re not. Why are you getting so worked up? And to think my mom said you were good-tempered and told me to pursue you."
Whew. Finally, a compliment, even if it didn’t come directly from Xia Liang. It was enough to lift Lin Xin’s spirits and dispel the heavy feeling in her chest. She flicked her hair back and offered a sweet smile. "Not at all! Actually, my temper isn’t always the best, it’s just..."
However, before she could finish, Xia Liang cut her off, his face hardening. "Are you saying my mom is a liar?"
What the actual hell! Are you insane? I was just being modest! Do you even understand what modesty is? Who said your mother was lying?!
SNAP!
Lin Xin finally lost it. The handle of the coffee cup in her hand snapped right off. One can only imagine the fury she was feeling. At this point, she simply couldn’t take it anymore. This guy was going too far! She no longer cared if he was a rich bachelor or a handsome catch; she just needed to vent the inferno raging inside her. Otherwise, she was afraid she might actually explode.
She roared at Xia Liang, "Is there something wrong with your head? No wonder you’ve grown up without ever having a girlfriend. You deserve it! If a retard like you can get a girlfriend, I’ll eat this cup!"
