Chapter 91: Attracting the Attention of a Man
CHAPTER 91: CHAPTER 91: ATTRACTING THE ATTENTION OF A MAN
Luu Qi subconsciously wanted to refuse. "No... there’s no need."
Unfortunately, Qingxue didn’t give her a chance. "It’s fine. You must eat breakfast, or you’ll get stomach problems later." With that, she looked at Xia Liang. "Are you going too?"
"Me?" Xia Liang quickly waved his hands, as he was already stuffed. "No thanks, I’ve eaten my fill. You two go ahead. I should get to work."
"Well, alright then." Qingxue didn’t insist, but she did caution him, "Be careful on your way."
"I will."
The three of them left the building together, and Xia Liang waved goodbye. Then, with a look of silent grievance, Luu Qi was dragged off to breakfast by Qingxue.
Having returned the BMW keys to Qingxue, Xia Liang naturally took his Lamborghini Poison to make deliveries. He opened the food delivery app, and a moment later, a notification chimed.
[You have a new delivery order. Please check it.]
Xia Liang glanced at it. Seeing no strange requests, he drove toward the pickup location.
「Meanwhile.」
In an interrogation room at the Qingyun Security Bureau, Yun Bing was questioning a suspect with a frosty expression.
"I advise you to tell me exactly where your hideout is. Where are the children you kidnapped being held?"
In front of her sat a middle-aged woman of about forty. Her skin was extremely coarse, and she wore clothes covered in patches.
"Madam Protector... you mustn’t make such wild accusations. When have I ever trafficked children? I just mistook that child for my own, that’s all. She looked a bit like my daughter!"
"You!" Seeing the woman still resisting so stubbornly, Yun Bing was fuming with frustration.
In just fifteen days, the Qingyun Security Bureau had received over twenty reports of missing children and six reports of vanished teenage girls. The youngest victim was only three years old, and the oldest was twenty-three. Following the leads, they discovered that a human trafficking ring had recently emerged in Qingyun City.
This middle-aged woman was caught today, but her accomplices, sensing something was amiss, had already fled. Only the woman was apprehended. Originally, Yun Bing planned to use her as a breakthrough to trace the criminal gang behind her, but the woman was intractable, refusing to let slip a single word. Though Yun Bing was angry, she felt even more helpless.
At that moment, she suddenly thought of the young man named Xia Liang. If only he could come, she thought. With his miraculous ability, I’m sure I could crack this case.
At the thought, Yun Bing’s eyes lit up. Not long ago, she had found Xia Liang’s license plate number from video footage. She could simply use the Security Bureau’s System to look up his registered phone number.
Yes! I’ll call him over!
Yun Bing slammed the table, startling the middle-aged woman. Assuming Yun Bing was about to resort to harsh methods, the woman braced herself, though she was terrified. Still, compared to those people... no, those things that can’t even be called human... the Security Bureau’s methods are more bearable.
She puffed out her chest as if to psych herself up and slammed her own hands on the interrogation table, feigning victimhood. "She’s hitting me! A Protector is about to beat a confession out of me! Come look, everyone! They arrested me even though I did nothing! Is there no law?"
Looking at the shrewish woman, Yun Bing was filled with revulsion. People like this were simply nauseating. She shot the woman a fierce glare and walked out of the interrogation room, leaving the woman staring after her warily.
「Elsewhere, in the old district of Qingyun City.」
Carrying a takeout order, Xia Liang was at a loss for words. What the hell is this? Forget not being able to drive in, but damn, one person ordered all these dishes and this much rice? Can they even finish it all?
Following his GPS, Xia Liang wound his way to the entrance of a large courtyard. This should be the place.
He nodded to himself and knocked on the door. "Anybody home?" He held the food up toward the surveillance camera in the top-right corner. "Mr. Liu? I have your delivery. I need you to sign for it."
Inside the house, a fierce-looking man in his thirties glanced at the computer monitor. "Ah Cai, go tell him to leave the food by the door. We’ll grab it in five minutes."
"Yes, Ninth Brother." The man called Ah Cai stood up, but just as he was about to head out, he was stopped.
"Wait!" Ninth Brother’s eyes suddenly gleamed as he stared at Xia Liang on the screen.
Ah Cai turned back, confused. "Hm? Ninth Brother, is something wrong?"
Ninth Brother licked his lips. "Bring him in too."
"What?" Ah Cai jumped, his eyes darting back to the monitor. He asked hesitantly, "But Ninth Brother, he’s a man. Could it be...?"
As if realizing something, Ah Cai shivered and began muttering to himself. No wonder! No wonder Ninth Brother always looks at me so strangely!
Ninth Brother saw the look in Ah Cai’s eyes and knew exactly what he was thinking. He immediately grabbed a bottle of Farmer’s Three Punches from the table and threw it at him. "Get your mind out of the gutter! What the hell are you thinking?"
Ah Cai caught the bottle and chuckled sheepishly.
Ninth Brother shot him a disdainful glance and pointed at the screen. "I just saw him. This kid is really good-looking. If we catch him, those rich women in Harbor City will love him. Merchandise like this has to be worth a few Yuan."
"No way," Ah Cai said, looking at Xia Liang on the screen in disbelief. "Him? A few Yuan? You know, even the prettiest of those women we grabbed was only worth 0.8 Yuan."
Hearing this, Ninth Brother looked down on him. "That’s what you don’t understand. This is a prime good! Forget women, even I have to admit he’s handsome. Those rich women in Harbor City..."
As Ninth Brother rambled on, Ah Cai couldn’t help but interrupt. "Wait... Ninth... Ninth Brother..."
"What now?" Ninth Brother glared at him, annoyed at being cut off.
Ah Cai pointed at the monitor. "Ninth Brother, the prime good is about to leave."
"Huh?" Ninth Brother froze, then whipped his head around. Sure enough, Xia Liang was putting down the takeout, preparing to leave.
Fuck! A duck delivered right to my door, and I’m going to let it fly away?
Ninth Brother shot to his feet and rushed out of the room. He arrived at the back courtyard where a dozen or so men were playing cards. Seeing him, they all stood up respectfully.
"Ninth Brother!"
Ninth Brother nodded. He had been planning to go with just Ah Cai, but since this was their first time capturing a man—and a prime one at that—he decided it would be safer to bring two more people.
"Scorpion, Stone, you two come with me and Ah Cai. The rest of you, keep watching them."
"Yes!"
The two who were called stood up. Stone was a man in his early twenties, strongly built, though he didn’t seem very bright. Scorpion, on the other hand, was a woman with a somewhat delicate appearance. However, contrary to her looks, she possessed a particularly venomous heart.
