My brain took a trip down memoryne, trying to recall just about everything from the life that I used to live beforeing to Elorin.

I had not really missed it a lot in the past few weeks, but Killian’s words hit me like a brick and my brain decided to bring back all the memories from a life I had yearned to live.

I recalled how I struggled in a new city, studied hard to ace my exams and then the countless job interviews beforending a position at the prestigious Bureau that oversaw peace negotiations between humans and werewolves.

I worked my ass off, turned Bureau into my life, my soul and breath. I spent countless hours inside the Bureau working on files that were not meant for me because others had much better things to do than poke their heads inside a file on a weekend.

I had spent four years and six months in the Bureau very nicely, enjoying my work, but then thest six months had taken a drastic turn.

The office head position became open for hire thrice in six months, something that had never urred before, and thest person to own that position was a pain in the ass.

My brain also went to great lengths to paint that day in my head vividly. I could see myself getting screamed at by that woman, going down the basement to catalog the files and how she had snatched a file that tumbled out of the cardboard boxes and told me off for looking at stuff not meant for my eyes.

I stressed on that particr memory, trying to recall what had been written in the file.

I could remember seeing just a single page in it, worn out and yellowed.

Its edges had curled and torn in a few ces.

And on that page was a single grainy picture of someone.

The face was not facing the camera, but I could tell it was that of a man.

A man with a physique just like Killian.

Earlier I would not have been able to guess that, but now, it felt to be the only possible exnation.

I looked at him as the cogs in my brain churned to put everything together.

    He hadn’t been lying then.

Killian was the one in that picture, the man who was a myth and nobody had seen or heard about.

I looked at him, his side profile to be precise.

That picture had a man sporting a beard, whereas Killian didn’t have any.

Though if I were to hold the picture side by side to his face, there would be no mistaking that it was indeed his face.

I ced a hand on my face as a shocked gasp left my mouth.

“Was it really you?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

    Killian nodded.

“I have been staring at you all this time, my queen, and yet you doubt me.” He said with a woeful smile.

“But why was the Bureau after you? Humans….how do they know about you? Why was that file marked as ssified?”

Killian shrugged. “I dont have answers to all of those questions, but I could make an educated guess.”

I felt dazed and felt the need to sit on a chair to process it all.

“The Bureau… Mrs Briggs, everybody knew you. Everybody was looking for you. But that file was not meant for the eyes of amon employee like me.”

I said, cing my hands on either side of my head.

“They only knew what I wanted them to know,” Killian said, going down on his knees to crawl towards me.

“The Bureau…they were looking for you. They…they imed you were dangerous and exiled.”

Killian nodded, holding a ss in front of me.

“Drink this, you will need to calm down before I bombard you truths.”

    with anymore

I looked at him nervously, and he grabbed my hand to push the ss in my hand.

    “Drink please”

I sipped on the liquid that wasn’t just simple water, there was a sweet undertone to it along with something citrusy.

    “Lemonade?” I asked,ughing shakily.

Killian was not just any man, he was the most wanted person by the Bureau, the elusive criminal who only had a single paper in the file.

I had stacked and catalogued all those files. Those were official Bureau records that were old and maintained before technology was a thing.

Killian shrugged. “Something simr. It helps calm down the mind. I urge you to finish it.”

He said, and I downed it in one go.

Killian took the ss from me and gently ced it on the nearby table.

“I told you, you would not have the same opinion of me once I tell you the truth. And it is not even theplete…”

He began, but I grabbed his hands and gave them a gentle squeeze.

“I am not afraid of you, Killian.”

I whispered, and it was his time to be surprised.

He looked at me with genuine confusion, as if he could not process those simple words.

“Do you not understand why there was just a single page attributed to me when other criminals had all their life’s work, family and friends documented by the Bureau? The things I have done, the crimes I havemitted….”

He began, but I didn’t want to hear about it. Not because I was afraid of the truth but because it didn’t matter.

The moment I felt he was dying, the moment when I hopelessly cried to whoever was listening to me to spare his life, to bring him back to me in exchange for anything…. that was when I truly realized what he meant to me.

I had gone from being shit scared of losing him to slipping in the bed toy gently beside him, hearing the reassuring sound of his heartbeat only to be snatched from my bed and somehow save the King’s life.

I had not even gotten to the part of processing whatever the fuck happened up there. I didn’t want to think of anything else.

I only wanted Killian to know that I was not leaving his side again. And I was not going to let any force take him from me.

So I said the only thing I could to sum up all the confusing thoughts and emotions churning inside of me.

“It doesn’t matter how gory your past was, Killian. Only the present matters. And the fact that I can’t help thinking about you. The fact that I want to spend every waking moment with you and I wish you would kiss me instead of recalling the tales of your horrid past because I fear I would lose you again…”

Killian grew even more puzzled and looked up at me with eyes wide as saucers.

    “I don’t get it….what do you mean by…”

He began, but I didn’t want to waste words in exining what I felt, so I grabbed his cor and mmed my lips on his.

    “I love you”
