I stared at him for a second, unable to figure out if my ears were ringing or if he had truly said those words.
But when Martin continued to smile at me, I realized he wasn’t joking.
Had he not heard my repeated denials of not even wanting to breathe the same air as him? Torturing me and making fun of me wasn’t enough that he wanted to keep me chained to himself for the rest of my life. And for what?
“Why would you want a girl who hates you as your bride?” I asked even if I knew he would have some twisted answer to that question.
He looked iat /ime and then the fruit basket and had only tilted his head to the side when Emery’s whip cracked through the air and another scream left Mary’s lips.
Angered, I picked up a grape and grabbed his mouth to shove it down his throat. He coughed a little but smiled, pretending to like how I was being rough.
It gave me the creeps, but he raised his hand to indicate to Emery to stop the whip that she had raised again to whip at Mary.
The poor girl was whimpering in pain and her back was red with blood dripping down her clothes and straining her pale clothes.
I plucked another grape and this time he was smart enough to open his mouth before I made him choke on olliit. /li/ol
“A King needs a queen, my dear. And you have shown unwavering loyalty to Killian so I get to hit two birds with a stone. Make my brother suffer and watch us live happily ever after. Just imagine how our kids would be, your magic and my royal lineage would make for an awesome pair, dont you think?”
This guy was deranged, not just sick.
“Arent
you
such men.
all cursed to be impotent?” I asked, adding disgust in thatst word even if I had nothing against
But people like Martin didn’t deserve to procreate,
That smug smile on his face wavered a little and that was just a tiny bit of satisfaction I got. But he quickly schooled his features and replied.
“Courtesy of your ancestor, yes. But you are her descendant after all. I dont think she would want her lineage to die with you. So the magic would shatter the curse to ensure Morwenna’s legacy lives on.”
I continued to stare at him in shock.
“You are going to marry me just on a hunch?” I gave him a nk stare.
Martin shrugged.

“I mean once you awaken your powers, and you realize that you are truly bound to me, you would have no choice but to ept this.”
“Dont you think I will kill you first the moment I get my magic?” I asked and he gave me one of his sultry smiles again.
“You will try but then you have given me your greatest weakness. So I doubt your magic is going to change that.”
I furrowed my brows to wonder about it but then he leaned forward as if he was telling me something conspiratory.
“You love and forgive easily. And there are plenty of people in here, even those that you dont know that you dont want to get hurt. Imagine, today its Mary’s turn but tomorrow some randommoner who you never met in your life before. Would you really want an innocent to lose his life just because you were adamant?” He asked, blinking rapidly.
And I realized he was right.
I was not like him who would let innocent people suffer for my personal gains.
His gaze drifted to Emery and she was more than happy to raise the whip because my hand had stopped feeding him.
The whipnded on Mary’s back again and I almost recoiled at the scream that tore through MAry’s lips.
“I am doing what you say yet you keep hurting her. How do I believe you will keep your word even after I continue to istay /iby your side?”
I asked, helplessness and despair creeping in my voice.
I had been angry and frustrated at him earlier but now I realized I was truly stuck.
Life had been so glorious just two days ago when Killian and I had shared a night of passion, when I had dared to dream of a future with him.
And it was taken away from me in an instant.
The Goddess was cruel to give pathetic scums like Martin so much power and turn good souls like Mary defenseless.
Martin pointed a finger at me.
“That. Oh God, I had been dying to hear that in your voice for so long.”

He said, grabbing his goblet and downing its content in one go.

“That defenseless, helplessness in your voice. That misery. That recognition that you finally realize you have to do as you are told or else you would be responsible for thousands of deaths. That was what I was aiming for before we left this room.”
Martin said, sounding utterly pleased with himself.
I only raised my head to look at him in mild confusion.
“I couldn’t have the publicugh at me for my bride wanting to stab me to death, now can I? She has to appear to be standing beside me willingly if I want to pull this off.”
He came forward and looked at Emery to give her a brief nod who quickly dropped the whip toe behind him and take the cape off his back.
She then ced it on my shoulder as he reached for my hand.
I recoiled immediately at his touch but he leaned into my personal space and mumbled.
“Oh, I thought you learned the lesson but I guess I was being hasty. Emery…” He began but I cut him off.
Even if I hated saying the next words, I forced them out of my mouth.
“I wille with you willingly, if you ensure Mary gets sent to a healer for her injury.”
Mary was writhing on the floor that was now covered in a pool of her blood. But even then she tried to raise her hand and say in a choked voice.
“No, dont…do thati” /i
I could hear the pain in her voice and I hated that she was in this condition because of me.
“Ahh, so you inspire loyalty as well. It will be great for me to keep the people together. And now, shall we go ahead to meet my dying father?”
“The healer, promise me.” I spat the words out and he smiled again.
“Barty, go get this mess cleaned.” He called out to his dog who came wagging his tail and took Mary away.
I only wished he would truly take her to the healer.
Martin stepped towards the door but I blocked his way to ask.
“What about Killian? Promise me he won’t get hurt. Only then I aming with you.”
He cocked an eyebrow and replied.
“That depends on how well you behave for our first public appearance together bas /bba /bcouple.”
I almost gagged.

First appearance as a couple?
Wasn’t he taking things a bit too fast?
