Maelyn was watching Martin like a hawk as he was trying hard to cover up whatever shit Maelyn was trying to pull.
And for the first time, when she looked at me, she wasn’t ring at me. Instead, there was a different expression on her face.
“Forget about her. Deal with your father’s illness. And to ensure that you staymitted to our deal, I hereby offer to provide our healers in exchange for you deciding to marry me right away.”
Maelyn seemed impulsive and wanted to take matters into her own hands.
Hearing her words, her father got up from King Aecidus‘ side and came running towards her.
“What are you saying, Maelyn? That was not what we had discussed!”
Her father confronted her, but she said in a low voice.
“You made me sit by this asshole’s side for all these months, made me lose the one person I truly loved, all for the crown to side with us and improve our business rtions with Elorin. And now, I have lost not just my love but the crown as well. I am not letting you decide my fate any longer.”
She screeched like a banshee, taking her father by surprise.
“Your loved one? Who is that?” The King asked, and she pointed her finger straight ahead to where Martin was standing.
Martin was also baffled to think that she loved him, but then she made a disgusted face.
“Not you, you moron. I love him,” She said and Martin looked to the side to see Sir Nichs standing next to him with a shocked expression.
Sir Nichs looked from left to right as shocked gasps of exmation rang through the crowd.
“No, no, I am not sure what gave thedy this idea but this is an utter false im.”
Maelyn’s face fell and she immediately ran towards Sir Nichs to grab his cor in both her hands.
“How dare you say that to me? All those promises of being with my side, promising me an heir because the stupid heir of Elorin was impotent….what about them?”
Martin’s face grew angry and he grabbed the courtier away from her and demanded.
“So you have been colluding with my betrothed behind my back while acting to be my trusted advisor.”
Martin began pping and hitting the man who tried in vain to exin himself to the angry prince. While all this was going on, I noticed that Nina had returned without anybody’s notice and had quietly slipped towards
the King’s bedside again.
“Wait, what are you doing, Nina?” I demanded in a loud voice that made her give a startled jump.
She quickly pushed something into her pockets while looking at me.

“How dare you call out for me by my name?” She spat out, but I had already neared her and stopped her hand that was holding a ss vial.
Snatching it away from her hands, I smelled it and announced loudly.
“This is not medicine. This is poison. She is not treating the King but rather poisoning him to a slow death.”
I said loudly, and the crowd gasped in shock once more.
Nina tried to grab the vial I had just snatched from her and a tussle ensued. She was fighting me like a cat, but she didn’t know I was trained to fight.
So I let here close to me then spun her around so that her back was on my shoulder and twisted her left arm behind her back with one hand while he held her by the scruff of her neck with the other.
Nina was just evil, but she was frail and not really a fighter, so just the little pressure I put on her arm was enough to make her cry out in pain.
And despite all my rage and frustration, I felt the tiniest bit of satisfaction on hearing her scream for help.
Martin flicked his head towards us and then back at Maelyn, apparently confused about which fight he wanted to pick.
After a second of hesitation, he went towards Maelyn and started to pull her to the corner to talk about something.
Meanwhile, I maintained my hold on Nina and said.
“Why are you doing this? Did Martin promise you something in exchange for poisoning the King?b” /b
I asked as I overheard a few courtiers leap up into action and start loudly proiming how I was a wild animal who could betray and kill.
I could only shake my head in disappointment at how these people of Elorin got brainwashed in no time.
No wonder Martin was able to easily fool these people and y his sick games. These people were either too gullible to fall for the lies or too afraid of Martin.
And that made me wonder if that is how he was making everybody listen to him- by threats and violence.
“Take your hands off me, you cursed bitch!” Nina swore, something she had reprimanded Sarah all these days and punished her harshly.
Hearing those words from her mouth almost startled me, and in that split second that I loosened my grip. over her, she turned around and snatched back the vial from me.

“You are destined to die, one way or another. And I would get in his good graces if I were the one to kill you.”
She said, smiling from ear to ear maliciously. She bared her teeth to me like an angry piranha that had scented blood and wasing for the flesh.
Get in his good graces? Was she referring to Martin?
I scampered back and jumped up on my feet as she pulled out a short knife from her pockets, the tip of the de glinting in the dim light being cast by the nearby torch.
And I saw that the de was all ck and that there were some symbols etched on its hilt. Where had I seen them before?
They looked strangely familiar.
But before I could take a good look at them, she brandished her knife, so I had to knock her out of my elbow.
The knife flew out of her hand and fell on the ground, but given that so many people were around, it disappeared from my view.
