bChapter /bb35 /b

Valencia

Twasn’t sure how long I had been passed out but my eyes twitched and I woke up to the sunrays falling on my face.

Igroaned and slowly raised my bhand /bto block the bright light out

And slowly opened my eyes to see a woman sitting beside me,

She was middle aged, had freckles on her face and was wearing a in cotton gown.

“Oh, you are up,” she said, smiling brightly, but I only scooted away from her.

“Who are you?” I basked /bas she got up from beside me and picked a tray containing food.

My stomach rumbled at the smell of the food that wafted to my nostrils.

“You must be hungry. I brought some simple food for you.” She said.

I looked at her and the tray warily before looking around.

I was in some room, lying in a bed I wasn’t familiar with. The room had just a huge bed and basic furniture.

“Where am 12” I asked, and she answered.

“My name is Mary and I have been assigned to look after y

ryou.

Wee to the ckmanor estate.”

ckmanor estate?

Where was thatb? /b

I felt my head throbbing as I tried to jog down my memory. I had been withn and he had asked me toe somewhere with him.

Somewhere safe.

Was this the ce he had been talking about?

Where was he?

I sat upright on the bed and realized my clothes had been changed into a soft, cotton gown.

“Did you change my clothes? Just tell me how I got here.”

I had so many questions.

Mary nodded, “Yes, I did. I was asked to look after you as I said.”

“Asked by who?” I repeated, eyeing the te of food nervously.

I wouldn’t eat food offered by any randomdy before figuring out where the heck I was.

“By our true King, idus.”

Thad never heard that name in my life,

My senses prickled, and I wondered if somebody had kidnapped me. I had to find out where I was for myself.

“Your food is going bcold/b” She gestured at the te but I shook my bhead/b.

“I am not hungry, but perhaps you can get some green tea for me?” I asked, quickly scanning the tray and spotting the absence of

tea.

bMary /bgot up from her seat and nodded, “Of course. But I would advise you to not do anything strenuous. You might want to rx in

this room.

Inodded

As if I was just going to sit bhere /band let unknown people keep me trapped here.

Mary left the room, and I quickly got up to look out the window.

And my eyes went wide to see that I was high up in some stone tower. There were stone walls all around me.

I bwas /bin some ancient manor for all I knew.

I looked down and gulped nervously.

Even if I jumped down, I would end up with a few fractures and broken limbs. That wouldn’t help me at all in case somebody were

to chase meb. /b

I sighed.

And I looked far ahead to notice arge water body surrounding the castle.

There was a freaking sea.

Where the hell was I exactly?

I looked around to see if the room had some of my stuff and bwas /bd to see my purse. I hastily opened it and saw that my phone bwas /bin it along with the other stuff.

However, bits /bbattery was deadb, /bbso /bit was of no use to me.

I groaned and threw the bag aside. By that time, Mary had returned with a cup of green tea.

“Here is your green tea. IF you have a headache or body pain, I might also get you another concoction of dried herbs that will relieve the pain.”

Concoction?

I blinked and shook my bhead/b. “No thanks”

I tentatively took ba /bwhiff of the cup and, to that, Mary remarked.

“I have not mixed anything in your drinks or food, Miss. I am under strict orders to keep you satisfied.”

“Yeah, by this true King of your, Acetus”

“King idus.”

As if that mattered. Aher feeling certain that the tea was bsafe /bto drink, I finished it along with the bread and butter she had gotten.

The bread had gone a little limp, but it still tasted fine.

kept chewing the bread as Lasked her.

“So where is this King Aecidus of yours, and why did he bring me here?”

She gave me a pensive look

“I am a maid and the prince doesn’t bshare /bwith me the reasons for him doing anything. However, I can guide you to his chambers once you feel fit enough to walk.”

Chambers?

What era was this woman living in?

She saw my bag thrown to the side band /bwent to ce it back on the side table.

b“/bbI /bbam /bready to meet your prince Aecidus,” I said, wiping my hands on the back of my bgown/b, but she shook her head.

“This is not how you will be allowed in the royal court”

bRoyal /bcourt?

Did we still have bthose /bin today’s era?

Mary didn’t exin further, but only asked me to follow her through another door. The ce was a little cold due to all the stone, but I was d to see the dressesid out in a corner.

They seemed longer than the thin gown I was wearing.

“You are supposed to only bwear /bsuch clothes when you step out of your room.”

“Now you can head to the bathing chamber and clean yourself before putting on any of the clothes of your choice.”

1 let my eyes roam through the clothes.

They all looked very old, as if I had stepped into a forgotten era. I looked back at her bas /bif to ask if that is what she really wanted me to wear, but when she stayed put, I sighed and got in the bathroom.

Thankfully, the water was hot, so I dly scrubbed myself before stepping outside wrapped in a towel.

All of the dresses Mary hadid out for me were bcy /band with frills. I would never be able to run in those heavy, baggy clothes.

“Isn’t there something less baggy? Something that won’t restrict my movements?” I asked Mary hopefully.

She gave me a small smile.

“I was told you might ask that”

I only cocked an eyebrow as she hurried outside and returned with another set of clothes.

These consisted of pants and a shirt, though the cor still had somecey stuff.

I dly took those clothes from her and put them on. Following that, she led me down the tower through a series of stairs and we entered the open space.

And I craned my neck up to look at that tower, which seemed to touch the sun. It was too big and I was not even sure how many floors it had in total.

My legs were already beginning to ache after climbing down so many stairs. But I was d I was not in chains or something.

I noticed a few people strutting by, going about their day, and noticed they didn’t look too sulky or haggard either.

A little girl came running and hugged a woman, who began ying with her.

More people were now starting to step out of their houses to go about their day, and barely anybody took a second nce at me.

Mary urged me to keep up with her as we passed through multiple houses made of stone and mud.

The wind was also flowing swiftly, and I could hear the distant sound of waterpping at the shore down below.

“How far is it?” I asked, and Mary replied. “Not too far

She led me through a cobbled pathway that was leading through a dense thicket. I stopped in my tracks to observe the tall trees.

“There aren’t any wild animals here right?”

She looked back at me and smiled.

“None that will attack you if you dont hurt them.”

Well, that was reassuring.

I began following her through the forest and when we crossed it, my breath almost got caught in my throat.

In front of me was the most beautiful castle I had ever s

seen in my life.

It was humongous, and there was a bridge that we had to cross to get to the castle.

And under the bridge, a river was flowing.

The whole scene looked straight out of a fairytale.
