According to the old man’s research, if one hundred giant dragons died, only one would convert into an unconscious Dragon Soul state, existing on Dragon Island.

Moreover, Dragon Souls were not immortal.

Turning into a Dragon Soul still meant constant Power of the Soul consumption until depletion, at which point the Dragon Soul would dissipate into the void.
