CHAPTER 50: CHAPTER 21: DIFFERENT CHANGES; AND ARRIVING LATE
Is it about to end...
Watching the Other Shore Flowers bloom like a blood-red carpet, instantly covering every inch of the temple courtyard, like the unending flames of Naraku burning fiercely on the scorched earth of Hell, surrounding the Ox-headed Ghost at the center, Gu Mo experienced firsthand the overwhelming sensation of facing the powerful Lord of Constant Darkness up close, and this thought flashed through his mind.
This is the final part of the Thirteen Sakura Village scene. Once the Ox-headed Ghost is defeated, the first act, the Newbie Village in the game, will be completed.
So... can I go back now?
He instinctively held his breath, watching the black-haired girl agilely swing her sword to meet the attack. The monstrous Ox-headed beast, comparable in size to the previous Ox-headed Ghost and as large as a small mountain, let out a long neigh, swinging its equally comparable Nail Hammer Iron Rod and Serrated Greatsword, sweeping fiercely across.
No fancy tricks, just an exceptionally wide attack range with unparalleled power—
Though not a forty-meter greatsword, the total length of that Serrated Greatsword must be over ten meters, at least four or five stories high combined.
Such a Serrated Greatsword, wielded by a Demon of the Ox-headed Ghost’s size, unleashed an unstoppable sweeping attack, sweeping through thousands! Even Hidechika didn’t want to take a direct hit because it would definitely be extremely painful...
Standing at the entrance, Gu Mo couldn’t help but squint slightly. The oncoming gust felt like a blade, stinging his face. Even though he was standing far away, nowhere near close, he still felt as if the Serrated Greatsword brushed past the tip of his nose!
If he had been a bit closer, wouldn’t the wind pressure have been enough to cut his body in half!
Amidst the shrill howling of the wind, he squinted his eyes, vaguely seeing that head of beautiful black hair flying in the gust, the girl’s posture as agile as a flying swallow. Not only did the Ox-headed Ghost’s sweeping attack miss her, but just as it swept past, she had already leaped up.
While avoiding this powerful sweep, enough to split mountains and shatter stones, she lightly tapped her toes on the sweeping Serrated Greatsword below—
Borrowing the force to leap high, her body spun elegantly but lethally, drawing an arc above the Ox-headed Ghost’s head, eventually landing behind the Demon Ghost, gently bending her knees to absorb the impact, as if weightless, half-kneeling on the ground, the blade she held already sheathed.
Immediately afterward, just like a delay in the frame, a dazzling and bewildering crescent arc of light burst above the Ox-headed Ghost’s forehead, the trajectory of the slash cutting through the air, shattering and intertwining... Momentarily, the image froze, and that pair of Ghost Horns soaring from the Ox-headed Ghost’s forehead shattered with a boom within the bewildering slash lines!
Like golden grains of rice, brilliantly dazzling, a dense essence gushed out from the broken Ghost Horns, instantly scattered by the gust.
With a wail, the fierce and malevolent, resentment-fueled Ox-headed Ghost’s hoof softened, its heavy body crashing to the ground like a falling mountain, raising a cloud of dust.
The blood-red light in its scarlet eyes no longer blazed but dimmed instantly, the Serrated Greatsword in its hands powerless to hold, slammed heavily onto the ground, causing the surrounding ground to tremble slightly.
The same procedure, one could say, had no novelty—
Yet precisely because of this, it was evident how profound the girl’s basic skills were in slaying these Demon Ghosts; even when facing the Lord of Constant Darkness, whom ordinary people couldn’t contend with, she made the battle feel like a streamlined operation.
Gu Mo was slightly amazed in his heart. This crisp and decisive combat style was filled with an air of swift and resolute action. Though it wasn’t his first time witnessing it, he still found it dazzling.
Unlike the experience of instantly slaying Ape Ghosts and Demon Ghosts with one strike, although those scenes looked powerful, they were completely different from the shock and impact when enormous creatures like the Ox-headed Ghost or Ox-headed Monster were instantaneously slain by a small human.
But at the same time he was marveling, within the black-and-white-toned Constant Darkness World, a gleam of violet light, not dazzling but absolutely noticeable, burst forth!
Countless phantom-like violet flying blades shot up like a massive school of fish swiftly swimming through the sea, majestically, suddenly turning in mid-air, phantom flying blades countless as raindrops falling, instantly causing the ground to quake, mountains to crumble!
Smoke and dust rose, enveloping the surroundings, obscuring the view.
Gu Mo instinctively took a few steps back, raising his hand to shield himself from the oncoming wind pressure and dust, but still felt as if sand nearly got into his eyes, making it hard to keep them open.
When the smoke and dust gradually dispersed, what met his eyes was a scene of carnage. The courtyard of the temple was a river of blood, the massive corpse of the Ox-headed Ghost pinned to the ground like a sieve by countless phantom blades with violet flowing light swirling ethereally. It lay completely silent.
The ground was desolate, the corpse riddled with holes, and from those ghastly and shocking blood-red cavities, boiling Demon blood gushed out like it was free, splashing up, staining the ground of the surrounding courtyard a bizarre crimson!
