CHAPTER 181: CHAPTER 179 STRANGE ASPECTS

Chen Xin and Li Yulong had negotiated the car parts issue, and after handing over his list to him, Chen Xin prepared to leave.

He was planning to visit Qin Lan at the hospital today, so he didn’t stay long at Li Yulong’s place.

However, upon leaving, Chen Xin unexpectedly saw someone who shouldn’t be there.

"Doctor? Why are you here?" Chen Xin looked at the "doctor" standing in front of him, surprised to see him here, especially since he didn’t appear to have come from outside—without a protective suit, he looked as if he lived there.

"Writer? The heating in my family’s shelter is really poor, and Xie Chang and I were planning to go to the official shelter. But then Mr. Li said he needed people here, so Xie Chang and I moved in." The "doctor" seemed equally surprised to see Chen Xin but politely greeted him, though with a worn-out expression, likely due to the heavy blow of his parents’ passing.

Listening to the "doctor" speak, Chen Xin’s eyes slightly narrowed—when did the doctor start calling Xie Chang by his full name instead of Xiao Xie?

However, Chen Xin didn’t delve into it further, nodded at the doctor, and left.

Driving towards the hospital, Chen Xin was quite pleased about the doctor moving to Li Yulong’s place.

After all, the doctor had a medical license and was running a small clinic before; moving to this future trading market would be beneficial for attracting customers.

Of course, hospitals can provide comprehensive medical services, but sometimes people have a preference for small clinics.

Chen Xin soon arrived at the hospital and found Hong Rui checking on Qin Lan when he got to the ward.

"Hello, Dr. Hong, why are you doing a check-up for Ah Lan?" Chen Xin greeted Hong Rui.

"As Officer Qin’s psychiatrist, it’s just a routine check-up." Hong Rui was still in her familiar short skirt, stockings, and white coat, strongly contrasting Qin Lan’s simple hospital gown beside her. "But Chen, you’ve been visiting the hospital quite often lately! Could you be harboring some ulterior motives for Officer Qin?"

Hong Rui teased Chen Xin and said "You guys talk" before leaving the room.

Watching Hong Rui leave, Chen Xin rubbed his nose and said, "She didn’t wear perfume today."

"Sit down, Ah Xin. You come here every day to bring me meals, I really am troubling you! Thank you!" Seeing Chen Xin carrying a thermal container, Qin Lan knew he had brought her food again, which made her grateful yet felt she was troubling him a bit.

"It’s just a meal delivery, no trouble at all. You took care of me when I was hospitalized before, didn’t you?" Chen Xin smiled at Qin Lan, placed the thermal container on the bedside cabinet, and started taking out the meals inside. "By the way, where’s Xiao Ding?"

"I asked her to go fetch some clothes for me, I’ve been in the hospital for a few days, and it’s time to change." Qin Lan answered while looking at the food Chen Xin had taken out. "Ah Xin, you’ve been cooking so much for me every day, isn’t that too extravagant? I feel like I’ve gained weight these past few days!"

Hearing Qin Lan say this, Chen Xin couldn’t help but laugh, "Why would that be? You’re a patient now, need to eat more to recover faster."

Saying this, Chen Xin put the food in front of Qin Lan and began feeding her.

Though Qin Lan had only injured one hand and could technically feed herself, to avoid aggravating the wound, Chen Xin insisted on feeding her.

While feeding Qin Lan, Chen Xin also mentioned Li Tou’s investigation at his house earlier.

This made Qin Lan feel very strange: "You say Li Tou went to your house twice? That’s a bit odd. One investigation should be completely sufficient, the consecutive investigations are strange!"

"Strange? Why would you say that, Ah Lan?" Chen Xin was curious upon hearing Qin Lan say this.

"Generally speaking, a large-scale investigation usually requires only one round because it’s heavy in workload, and currently, with little personnel movement between shelters, a single investigation suffices to cover a certain area. There’s no need for such intensive consecutive investigations."

Qin Lan became increasingly puzzled, wishing she could immediately discharge and find out what was going on.

However, she was injured and given leave by Uncle Ding, so despite her doubts, she couldn’t participate in the investigation, left to ponder it alone.

Listening to Qin Lan’s puzzled words, Chen Xin didn’t find it odd as she did, casually saying, "Old Li said the first investigation was arranged by the municipal government, and the latter by a joint investigation team. Different orders might explain the two investigations, right?"

"Two investigations within a short period is still highly abnormal unless..." Qin Lan stopped mid-sentence, suddenly thinking of something. Her gaze sharpened on Chen Xin, sitting up excitedly, almost knocking over the spoon in his hand.

Seeing Qin Lan’s agitation, Chen Xin quickly put down the spoon and gently laid her back on the bed, "Lie down, lie down! Your wound hasn’t healed yet, why are you so worked up!"

"Ah Xin, you don’t understand! If a short-term double investigation occurs, it might mean the first investigation identified the suspect’s vicinity, with the second aiming to pinpoint the suspect by narrowing down the area!" Qin Lan excitedly looked at Chen Xin, speaking quickly: "So, unless there’s another reason, it likely means the first investigation found clues, identified the suspect’s area, and your house is within that zone, hence the consecutive investigations!"

Hearing this, Chen Xin raised an eyebrow but shook his head, saying, "Whether they found the suspect doesn’t involve you. Your job now is to recover properly; even if something is happening, wait until you’ve healed to address it. In your current condition, can you even fire a gun?"

Chen Xin’s words left Qin Lan with no argument; she was now in a state with one arm hanging, barely able to wield a handgun, let alone sniper rifles, and even after the wound heals, returning to normal also requires time.

But Qin Lan stubbornly added, "But in that case, there would be danger at your place, Ah Xin! What if those terrorists target you? Your place is an excellent hideout!"
