I can upgrade the shelter
Chapter 183 - 181 Upgrading the Bedroom
CHAPTER 183: CHAPTER 181 UPGRADING THE BEDROOM
The content on the note inevitably made Chen Xin feel a bit nervous and wary. He understood that this was clearly a big move by the police, and he had inadvertently been drawn into the situation.
The previous questions about why Qin Lan and Ding Ning were given a month’s leave and why his shelter was inspected twice were now explained.
Chen Xin didn’t mind cooperating with the police, and having Qin Lan and Ding Ning come to protect him was indeed a good thing.
However, having two girls move in to live with him, even for the sake of protection, still posed a certain level of trouble for Chen Xin.
After all, they were two girls; figuring out where they would sleep was an issue.
If it were only Qin Lan, that would be easier to address, since they had lived together before, making it less of an issue.
But Ding Ning and Chen Xin were just ordinary friends, not particularly close, which obviously caused Chen Xin some distress, requiring him to consider where to arrange accommodations for them both.
At the very least, Ding Ning needed to be given a separate room.
While pondering this issue, Chen Xin returned to his shelter.
Now that he knew from Ding Ning that he might encounter danger, he naturally had to pay close attention to the safety of his shelter.
After locking the main door, Chen Xin planned to enhance some defenses, such as upgrading the main door to improve its protective capabilities while also adding some defensive weapons.
However, this could be postponed for a while, as Chen Xin needed to first solve the accommodation issue for when Ding Ning and Qin Lan arrived.
Actually, this problem wasn’t too difficult to solve. Aside from the bedroom and living room, there was also a medical room, where they could sleep on the multifunctional surgical chair if they didn’t mind. After all, when unfolded, it served as a temporary operating table, about the size of a train sleeper berth.
However, that was indeed too simplistic. If Chen Xin had no other options, he might consider doing so, but with other potential solutions in mind, it wasn’t his plan.
Sitting down at the workbench, he opened the system interface and browsed the various materials in the warehouse, considering making a bunk bed.
Creating a bunk bed wasn’t all that complicated, the materials required were simple, and if it were like the kind in Chen Xin’s university dormitory, it could be made with just a few steel pipes.
Chen Xin looked at the materials in his warehouse; there was still a batch of steel pipes, a few pieces of angle iron, channel steel, and I-beams remaining. Even without a system, provided he knew welding, he could use these materials to create a bunk bed himself.
So, without hesitation, Chen Xin dragged two steel pipes from the storage room, cut them into four pillars, then used four pieces of angle iron to create two rectangular frames, attaching the four pillars to the top corners of the frames to complete the bunk bed frame.
He welded a few horizontal beams inside the rectangular frame and laid down a plank, making it suitable for sleeping. The bunk beds in Chen Xin’s dorm during university were just like this, and its quality might not even have been as solid as the one Chen Xin made himself. He remembered that during their batch, there was a classmate whose weight broke the bed.
However, even though he made the bunk bed, Chen Xin hesitated to let Qin Lan and Ding Ning sleep on it due to its simple and lackluster design, even missing the bed plank.
Therefore, after constructing the steel frame, Chen Xin found a composite board and a sheet of iron from the warehouse to enhance the bed, investing 20 survival points into upgrading it.
Once upgraded, the bunk bed finally looked a bit more presentable, with considerably thickened pillars, added planks on top, and a ladder on the side for ascent and descent, giving it a more believable appearance.
With the bed now ready, the remaining issues were easier to handle.
Leaving the workbench, Chen Xin went to the bedroom and opened the system interface once more.
"Container-Style Modular House - Bedroom Module"
"Upgrade Option One: Upgrade shell material, improve insulation, enhance temperature regulation and air circulation, life support level +1, requires 3000 survival points."
"Upgrade Option Two: Upgrade interior furnishings material, add smart home features, enhance living comfort level +1, overall tech level +1, requires 4500 survival points."
These were the options displayed by the system when Chen Xin previously checked the bedroom upgrade options. However, after he figured out how to use the system, he became able to control the upgrade directions.
Thus, when he opened the bedroom upgrade interface again, the displayed options were:
"Container-Style Modular House - Bedroom Module"
"Upgrade Option One: Expand living area, capacity +3 persons, upgrade shell material, improve insulation, enhance temperature regulation and air circulation, life support level +1, requires 5000 survival points."
"Upgrade Option Two: Increase living space +1 (each space accommodates 2 people), improve interior furnishings material, add smart home features, enhance living comfort level +1, overall tech level +1, requires 6500 survival points."
The prices increased, but the upgrade options clearly included more features.
Seeing the system upgrade options change according to his will made Chen Xin nod in satisfaction, and regarding the upgrade costs, the required materials for both upgrade options were available in his storage, overlapping to a significant extent with the materials he had prepared for the overall shelter upgrade, so Chen Xin could readily provide the necessary materials for both options.
But in doing so, he would deplete about one-fifth of his stockpiled materials, which would undoubtedly impact his goal to upgrade the entire shelter.
However, given that he hadn’t yet assembled all the materials needed for the comprehensive shelter upgrade, temporarily diverting some for the urgently needed bedroom upgrade seemed feasible. After all, he was already planning to acquire another batch of materials, so reallocating some now only meant acquiring a bit more later.
After considering this, Chen Xin chose only to implement Option Two.
He invested the materials, utilized survival points, and confirmed the upgrade. Just like refreshing a computer display with a different theme, it was as simple as a flicker of green light; a mere refresh transformed everything.
The bunk bed Chen Xin had just made disappeared from beside the workbench, while a new door appeared beside the original bedroom door in the living room.
Upon opening the new door, he saw a bedroom with a high-tech and somewhat futuristic feel. Its minimalist style, white color scheme, and warm lighting made it look nothing like an apocalyptic shelter but rather reminiscent of a future dwelling in a sci-fi movie.
