Chapter 423 - 421 Testing the Gun
CHAPTER 423: CHAPTER 421 TESTING THE GUN
On a snow slope outside the shelter, after a very light muffled sound, Qin Lan checked the gun in her hand with a somewhat strange expression.
This gun was a custom electromagnetic sniper rifle made by Chen Xin specifically for her. It utilized a rail launch system, having high initial velocity, and Qin Lan’s tests showed its accuracy was quite good. It didn’t even require wind resistance correction, yet for some reason, Qin Lan still felt the handling was a bit strange.
"A-Lan, how’s the feel? Is there anything that needs adjusting?" Seeing Qin Lan’s odd expression, Chen Xin asked with concern.
Chen Xin was even more attentive to this sniper rifle than to the standard electromagnetic rifles he made for the military, naturally hoping it could be perfect.
In gaming terms, the ones he made for the military were like mass-produced blue-green equipment, while the one he made for Qin Lan at least started as purple gear, and Chen Xin seemed to want to make it into orange gear.
Faced with Chen Xin’s inquiry, Qin Lan organized her thoughts and said, "Shooting feels pretty comfortable, there’s no recoil, the trajectory is stable, and accuracy is good. It’s just that the feel isn’t quite right, it feels weird, maybe because I’ve never used an electromagnetic rifle before."
"Strange feel? In what way is it strange?" Chen Xin, hearing Qin Lan’s response, took the gun from her and carefully checked it before pressing her for further details.
"I can’t really say, I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s different from the guns I’ve used before. It’s not that the gun is bad, it’s just that I’m not used to it," Qin Lan thought it over and decided it wasn’t that the gun was bad, but rather her unfamiliarity with this type of electromagnetic weapon.
On hearing Qin Lan’s words, Chen Xin thought for a while and said, "Can you describe the feel of this gun compared to the ones you’ve used before? Like what are they both like?"
"Hmm... The guns I used before didn’t have as high accuracy, the recoil was quite strong, but each shot I took, I knew what result to expect, the gun gave me good feedback," Qin Lan paused there to organize her language before continuing, "Exaggerating a bit, with the old gun I could achieve unity between man and gun, but now this gun feels very unfamiliar to me.
Even though I’ve fired it, I don’t feel too much recoil, and without a silencer, there’s hardly any noise, it’s just that I don’t know where the bullet will fly after the shot, or what effect it will have after hitting the target, I can’t grasp any of it."
Qin Lan’s answer left Chen Xin somewhat perplexed. If Qin Lan could point out specific shortcomings, he could easily make adjustments.
But this somewhat mystifying description left Chen Xin at a loss for what to change.
Qin Lan seemed to realize her words might be putting him in a difficult position, so she hastily added, "I’m not saying this electromagnetic sniper rifle is bad, mainly I’m just not accustomed. With this gun, after pulling the trigger, there’s almost no vibration at all, it doesn’t feel like shooting."
Qin Lan’s words seemed to make Chen Xin understand a bit. He weighed the electromagnetic sniper rifle in his hand, then directly aimed and pulled the trigger.
A subtle clicking sound was all that was heard, and the bullet hit the target instantly, while Chen Xin only felt a slight tremor in his gun.
After firing, Chen Xin held the gun and pondered seriously. He seemed to have a bit of inspiration, yet felt unable to catch it.
"The feel of this gun... indeed, it’s a bit strange." Chen Xin had to admit, the sensation of using this gun was indeed a bit odd.
In the past few hundred years, humans have been using gunpowder as the source of power for firearms, naturally, the recoil generated by powder propulsion was a puzzle for humanity for centuries.
Despite advancements in modern military technology, with various attachments greatly mitigating gun recoil, recoil is still present.
That slight jolt and vibration allow a user to clearly feel the bullet leaving the barrel.
Though it’s not a practical feeling, for many, it’s the feedback a firearm provides to the user, particularly pronounced in snipers.
Not every sniper might have this habit, feeling they need to sense that jolt to be certain the bullet is fired, but clearly Qin Lan tends to prefer feeling recoil or hearing a gunshot.
While electromagnetic weapons aren’t completely devoid of recoil, after fitting them with recoil-reducing components, their impact is minimal, even negligible.
It’s like using a toy gun, where pulling the trigger results only in a sound, without feeling the gun jumping back or up in your hand.
For Qin Lan, already used to the obvious feedback from traditional firearms, this gun, requiring no reloading or shell ejection, and with virtually no recoil, does indeed feel peculiar in her hands.
Understanding this, Chen Xin had clarity.
Just as Qin Lan said, it’s not that the gun is impractical, just that she’s not accustomed to it.
Chen Xin could simply let her become naturally accustomed after using it for a while, but he also could make slight adjustments to the gun itself, so it can provide clearer feedback.
If this were a weapon for the military, Chen Xin might not bother adjusting it, but since it’s custom equipment for his girlfriend, Chen Xin decided to make further modifications.
"I think I know where the problem lies. I’ll take this gun and make some adjustments," Chen Xin nodded to Qin Lan, indicating he knew where the issue was.
Seeing this, Qin Lan didn’t say much more, she just nodded to Chen Xin with anticipation.
For her, being able to pick up a sniper rifle again was what she had always hoped for. After all, years of training as a sniper had imprinted those skills on her soul, making them hard to abandon.
And for a sniper, a good gun is an ultimate aspiration.
After testing the gun, the two headed back. Since space in the shelter was limited and the entrance was under construction, they chose a nearby gentle snow slope which was perfect for an undisturbed test.
However, while they were walking back, they suddenly felt the ground shake.
Chen Xin and Qin Lan steadied themselves, exchanged a glance, and saw shock in each other’s eyes.
"Is it an earthquake?" Qin Lan asked Chen Xin.
"I don’t know, but it doesn’t feel strong. Even if it’s an earthquake, it’s not happening here," Chen Xin shook his head, finding it hard to determine what was happening with such a faint tremor: "Let’s head back quickly!"
