I created my own system
Chapter 377: The Falcon
"Hi" he greeted and right behind him, people were left unconscious making Kairen even more scared.
"Although I already the answer I will still ask you, was it you who made that lab at the border of Lumen?"
His reaction upon hearing the words "Lab at Lumen" gave him away immediately. Eros look at him and for some unknown reason he felt a rage that made him confuse. Still he maintained his rationality and went on with the interrogation.
Now, restrained in chains with anti-magic, he sat on the cold floor, sweat soaking through his collar. He never expected that the easy money he made by accepting that request will put him in this situation.
"Shit I don't want to die!...damn it!" He repeatedly said in his head while the people in front of him just stare at his scared expression.
"Sir Baylee, please start"
Eros said to him, Baylee just nodded and so the senior mage cast the spell that unlocked the man's surface memories. Scenes spilled forward, the lab's construction, the delicate installation of the mana bombs, the mysterious group that help them, receiving payments…
But the one who issued the instructions remained hidded. The figure's voice was magically distorted. The memories were no help at least not yet.
Baylee couldnt help but sigh
"It seems you didn't see what you wanted mage"
"His memories about the people who provided him with the materials were blurry. I couldn't even distinguished their gender, as for the one who made the request its appearance were hinder by a cloak"
The senior mage couldn't help but frown, Eros too was feeling like they are missing something.
Then suddenly the two looked at each other, as if getting to the same conclusion their eyes shifted towards a specific individual.
The seer.
"Lady seer if its okay, will you lend us your power again" Eros politely ask while Baylee just gave a blank stare at the woman.
"If your vision allows it, we want you to see the past of these place. Trace the past of this place" he then move his hand and gave the seer a memory fragment. "Find whoever gave the contract, use the memory to recognize him."
The Seer nodded hesitantly, kneeling beside the restrained mage. She pressed her fingers to the ground and inhaled sharply.
Once again the marks on her skin glowed white. She began tracing the past of the dak guild, her mission is to find the contractor based on the info Baylee have her. She continue to review the events that happened in the past and slowly, an image formed, a blurred vision, coming from a dusty alley, there, the cloaked figure again.
A wave of relief came to her since her failed attempt at Lumen gave a bitter aftertaste, considering she is well known prodigy in their circle.
"I found him" she delightedly reportly.
"Okay lets change location and see if we can trace its past" Yukan ordered, Eros and Baylee followed while Lyrise was left to clean up the raid.
The team was then divided.
The team with Eros went to the back alley and proceed to search for more evidence to track.
The seer continue searching, but as she went deeper, the image expanded, revealing the man with the contract wasn't the real orchestrator. He had also been following orders another cloak man gave the command for the contract. And thats where it ends. The back alley doesn't have any more memory on how the transaction went.
"Are we moving to another place again?" Eros asked, recognizing the seer's expression even though he can't see it.
"Let me escort you, which place are we going?"
The seer was taken abak at the sudden kindness though she immediately shifted her expression to more professional.
"Please take me there" she pointed the place where the mysterious cloak man came from.
"We need to follow the place where he came from"
Eros just nodded and take the seer to another part of the alley.
Once again her visions move, but just like the previous one the man they saw was just following a random old mas's orders for money. And so they move to another place and to another. It took them hours even Lyrise had finished cleaning up the dark guild, but the search was still in progress.
"Should we rest, lady seer?" Eros offered since he could sense the fading mana of the lady he was holding.
Though she is indeed tired the seer shook her head "No, Im good please help me to the next destination" she was determined to help despite her strength growing thin.
Baylee and Eros couldn't help but look at each other, they both understand that no matter what they say she won't listen.
"Here lady seer, please take this, it will reduce the fatigue you are feeling" Baylee offered this time his voice was filled with concern opposite to his cold tone.
Face with such kindless of her two escort, th seer couldnt help but comply. She took the potion and felt a sudden lightness.
"Thank you-....!?" Her words were cut off suddenly as Eros scoop her from the ground and decided to lift her.
"I will carry you lady seer, so please just tell where should I ago"
At first she wanted to reject the offer but seeing the dark sky she knows that the tracking too much time already. If being lifted could make things faster then so be it. Baylee took out another potion and put it on her hand.
"Drink this to replenish your stamina, we are still quite far from the next destination please rest" The full series lives on * (*).
The two were very accommodating that Viena who just returned from the imperial palace couldn't help but blink as she witnessed, the kindness the two are showing.
"Is this the same people that kept looking at me with killing intent?" She wondered while quietly following them.
After a few more minutes and they arrive at a mansion, it was abandoned and left into ruins.
"We are here"
"You may put me down, young lord" Eros just nodded and obeyed the seer's words. Immediately she went to work and the surrounding suddenly changes.
The image shifted again, this time to a well-furnished room. Velvet drapes. A sigil carved into a wooden panel too faint to make out clearly. Then the quiet mansion was disturbed by man, he was wearing a suit while a hat was covering his face. Walking into the heart of the manor what attracted Eros was the scroll on its hand.
"Think that guy is our target"
Yukan whispered which Baylee and Eros quietly agreed.
The vision then wavered and another figure appeared, taller, broader, dressed in high quality robe, but with a hood still masking their face. A gloved hand passed over a satchel of gold.
Baylee leaned forward, eyes narrowing. "Pause it. That ring."
The Seer froze the vision. A single ornate ring glinted on the hooded figure's hand, shaped like a falcon in mid-dive, its wings spread in aggressive grace.
Baylee exhaled. "A Falcon emblem."
Eros' brow furrowed. "You recognize it?"
While the people beind behind all bore a grim expression.
"I think I am the only person here who isn't aware of the meaning of that sigil"
Baylee couldnt help but sigh, while Lyrise came forward and began explaining.
"As you know each houses, each family especially those with powerful background had their own people that takes care of the dirty stuff for them. Assassination, bribery and information gathering those things are being down by the most trusted people of each family. The crest we jus saw belong to an organization known as the the Falcon.....and the family that owns them....is someone you know well."
She looked deeply into his eyes wanting to see if her words were able to reach him. And Eros did understand what she meant, his expression changes for a second before turning into a calm and determine expression.
"The falcons ae working for the Aileas of the Aileen kingdom right?"
All the members of the investigation team simultaneously nodded, Liam on th eother hand is extremely worried about his master. He knows him and despite his caml demeanor his mind should be in turmoil.
"I guees we know what we need to to." he just said
Eros stared at the paused image. He looked deeply into the crest, his expression bore no signs of anger of denial, it was just calm.
"Everyone you recorden that rigth? Have reported right away to the arcduke" Eros said, voice steady, "We must know what the scroll contains"
Baylee gave a rare nod of agreement.
But behind him, the Seer suddenly flinched the vision twisting violently. Smoke. Screams. A shattered tower. It wasn't from the past for sure, which made the team shiver.
Her voice broke through the rising static:
"…I see… a shadow behind the falcon…"
Then the image blinked out.
The Seer collapsed.
Eros and Baylee panicked trying to catch her as she fall.
