CHAPTER 171: ACHILLES, THE FIGHTER

While the others split off toward their own sectors, Achilles didn’t wait for instructions, heading straight for the eastern wall.

There was no thoughtful assessment, no tactical positioning—his choice was simply based on being the closest side to him.

The moment he sensed the wave of monsters pouring toward the eastern wall, the golden-haired demigod lowered his stance, let out a sharp battle cry—

"YOU! MONSTERS! COME! SHOW ME YOUR BEST!!"

—and dove straight into the horde like a meteor thrown by the heavens.

Among the enemies, a massive ogre—its skin covered in rock-like patches—swung its crude club as soon as Achilles entered its range.

But Achilles didn’t slow down.

He slammed into the monster shield-first—CRACK—and shattered its ribcage with raw momentum alone. As the beast flew backward, he spun, decapitating a second one with the edge of his shield while skewering another in the head with his spear.

Another ogre lunged.

Achilles’ spear blurred, pulled and thrust with almost no time lag.

BAM!

The monster tried to block, but before it could even cross its arms, its head was already flying away like a baseball after a home-run swing. Without wasting momentum, Achilles jumped up the ogre’s body and drove his spear downward, causing the ground to explode and sending a few monsters airborne.

His shield flashed, the edge used like a guillotine, chopping heads one after another before landing like a fallen meteor.

It was pure, savage violence—action without a hint of fear.

Behind him, a few dwarves and beastmen tried to keep up, but were forced to halt halfway. Achilles wasn’t "holding the front"—he was already deep inside the swarm. The moment they left the wall, they lost sight of him completely.

All they could see were waves of monsters stumbling backward or flying apart in pieces.

"H-How reckless..." Kuhn muttered, sweat trailing down his cheek. "But also... amazing!"

Deep inside the swarm, Achilles laughed. Not mockingly—but joyfully. His blood roared in his ears, drowning out all other sounds.

"Now THIS! THIS is what a battle should be!!!" he roared like a madman.

"GRAAAAH!!" A giant sand golem roared back, swinging its spiked arm down toward him.

Achilles leapt upward, landed on the incoming arm, sprinted down its length, and thrust straight into its glowing, red eye—its core.

The golem crashed to its knees, howling. Its body collapsed, turning back into normal sand once the core was destroyed.

Achilles twisted his spear, cracking the core, and brought his shield down like a battering ram. The gem-like core shattered like glass, crushing down to dust. He didn’t take chances—he ensured the enemy’s final end.

His overwhelming display caused the nearby monsters to flinch, then slowly step back.

"Is that all...?!" Achilles growled. "Don’t run!! GET BACK HERE!!"

Several monsters actually turned and fled at full speed, as if they’d learned their lesson about angering the blonde demigod.

They soon found that trying to escape was a very bad decision.

Achilles planted his feet, pulled his right arm back—and hurled his spear like a lightning bolt. The iron tip punched clean through five monsters in a row before pinning a sixth to the ground. The impaled beast trembled helplessly.

With the same motion, he called the spear back with a flick of his wrist.

The weapon flew back into his hand like a loyal hawk returning to its master—dragging the pinned monster with it. A casual twist of his wrist left a barrel-sized hole through the monster’s chest, killing it instantly.

Monsters understood immediately. Running meant certain death.

But staying meant death as well.

They could only resist, forgetting their initial objective—invasion—as it was now simply a fight to survive. Within a heartbeat, more enemies rushed him from all directions.

That was fine.

This was how he fought best—alone, surrounded, seemingly overwhelmed. Even gods would fear the violence of numbers...

...Or so it should have been.

"Pathetic. All of you."

He spat the words between clenched teeth, swaying past another Death Stinger’s swing and burying his spear between its eyes.

His blood was boiling with anger.

Not because the fight was too difficult.

But because it was still too easy.

’What am I doing? Is this really all I’m capable of?’

He had seen Xu Tao cut a gigantic cyclops in half with a single swing. He had watched Xu Tao’s clone chop his own copy into ribbons in one instant.

...and here he was. Still hacking away at trash monsters, unable to clear them in one wave of his spear.

His lips curled into a snarl.

"I need to get even stronger...!" he growled. "And for that, I need stronger enemies!"

As if answering that wish, the ground suddenly shook.

A massive beast stepped forward—half-boar, half-ogre, standing nearly four meters tall. Its tusks were jagged and black, coated in a tar-like substance. Each step it took melted the earth beneath its hooves.

Its hungry eyes locked onto Achilles.

Instead of fear, Achilles grinned. "Good! That’s more like it!"

With one step, he launched forward, shield raised, spear low.

The beast bellowed, lowered its head, and charged—

BOOOOM!

—and the collision sounded like thunder.

Air blasted outward, shaking the nearby wall. Kuhn and the others were nearly thrown off their feet.

Dust spread, covering everything like a veil. But even through it, they heard a single voice—

"IS THAT ALL YOU’VE GOT?!"

—and then the roar of a beast in agony.

When the dust cleared, the hulking monster was kneeling—its tusks snapped in half, Achilles’ shield lodged in its throat like a wedge.

Achilles stood in front of it, face bloody, armor cracked... but smiling like a madman.

He raised his spear high, then drove it down in a brutal thrust straight between the creature’s eyes.

The beast shuddered once... then collapsed onto its side, dead.

For a heartbeat, every monster in the vicinity froze.

Achilles exhaled slowly. Blood dripped to the ground, but he paid it no mind. His eyes sharpened as he looked toward the remnants of the horde.

"Next."

And just like that, the slaughter continued.
