I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 939 - 939 938. Is this human
Chapter 939: 938. Is this human? Chapter 939: 938. Is this human? The island was the largest nearby, and it was here that the plane carrying Lu Ban and his companions had landed.
The native people on the island also mostly took up tourism-related industries, even fishing became a performance event.
Therefore, it was rare to see fishermen laboriously heading out to sea before dawn anymore.
“Don’t you find it strange that we’re walking around here now?”
Shia asked with a hint of suspicion, glancing at Lu Ban, who was carrying Amber on his back.
Not a soul could be seen on the streets, only the faint sounds of people waking up from the second floors of the houses along the road, and occasionally the cry of a baby.
Shia was referring to how they supposedly took a boat to that deserted island and then somehow inexplicably returned.
According to Amber, all this was the handiwork of some beings behind the scenes, so the information Shia and the others had received was false.
It was possible that the Zou Changyu couple had long since died, and all the people they met on the island were fake monsters, even the boat that took them there could have been disguised by monsters.
Then, what would be the fate of those who died on the island?
How would the deaths of Cui Siter and the others be recorded in the official files?
Or perhaps, since all this was an Illusion Realm created by The Dark One, did those who died simply get erased from existence?
Lu Ban walked for a while until he saw a 24-hour convenience store still open at the roadside. He took the two girls inside.
The cashier was distracted playing with his phone and didn’t notice the newcomers.
“Is this a human?”
Lu Ban asked subconsciously.
“Um, yes.”
Amber nodded.
Hearing their conversation, the cashier looked up, somewhat puzzled as he noticed all three of them looking at him.
“?”
A question mark seemed to hover above the cashier’s head. After a moment’s thought, he pointed toward the rack selling safety products.
“The ones on top are ten, the ones below are fifteen.”
Clearly, he thought these were indulgent tourists here to make a purchase.
“We don’t want that.”
Shia immediately said.
“?”
The cashier glanced at Shia, then back at Amber on Lu Ban’s back, and finally at Lu Ban, whose body was covered in blood.
Silently he marveled at how extreme young people were these days.
“Do you have any slippers or sandals for sale?”
Shia inquired in English.
This convenience store, unlike little shops in the back alleys, sold all sorts of things catered to tourists, including slippers, sandals, swimsuits, and even surfboards.
Lu Ban was bloody from head to toe, but the cashier, still half-asleep, didn’t notice and mistook it for a T-shirt print.
“They’re over there on the shelf.”
Rubbing his eyes, the cashier pointed towards a shelf deeper inside the store.
Lu Ban felt relieved that Shia still had some cash in her pocket. They bought sandals for Amber, a new set of clothes for Lu Ban, and then some food and water. After changing their clothes in the restroom, they settled down at an outdoor table of the convenience store to eat.
During the meal, Shia utilized her impressive communication skills to “borrow” a tablet computer, and now she was browsing the internet for information.
“I checked for information about Uncle Cui and Red Leaf, and found that all the relevant information has disappeared.”
Shia’s fingers glided across the tablet as she spoke.
“I also can’t find any news about the case. It’s as if it never happened.”
She stopped moving her fingers.
“I looked up the island we went to before, and according to search engine records, that island had sunk due to geological changes ten years ago. Most of the island’s residents didn’t manage to evacuate in time and perished in that disaster. Since then, the region has been declared a no-sailing zone due to complex underwater terrain making it easy for ships to run aground, even small fishing vessels can’t go there.”
Shia pushed the tablet over to Lu Ban.
“…There have been mutations in the fish caught here?”
Lu Ban saw under the ordinary news, there were various obscure sources reporting incidents such as local fishermen catching a fish with four legs and diving enthusiasts sighting white humanoid creatures in the sea.
These reports, sounding like clickbait news, were also searchable on the internet, yet due to the obscurity of the location, the coverage was sparse, being copied and pasted by countless media outlets.
Lu Ban suspected that the sinking of the island ten years ago wasn’t due to some geological disaster, but rather the sacrifice rituals held there. After the island sunk, Pollution lingered at the seabed, and some fish that accidentally came close were contaminated, turning into mutant fish.
As for the humanoid creatures, they were likely the island’s residents at the time of the sinking.
Honestly, given the rate at which Pollution was spreading, Lu Ban felt he might never encounter these supernatural events in his lifetime. It seemed that, in some mysterious way, Charlotte had been a great help to him.
“I just called home to ask, and my parents have no memory of Uncle Cui, and our purpose for coming here has changed from investigating a case to vacationing.”
Shia added.
Such high-level information manipulation was easy for the Outer Gods, and they might not even need the will of their main bodies to do it.
“I think we should return home as soon as possible. If we stay here, those white monsters might come after us again.”
Shia suggested, and she glanced at Amber.
Although Amber was currently obedient to Lu Ban and wouldn’t harm her, there was no guarantee that as the situation progressed, Lu Ban could continue to restrain Amber, or that a desperate Amber wouldn’t act against Lu Ban’s will.
So, going home quickly was best.
Also, while Shia was curious about the Evil God and the monsters, now was definitely not a good time to stay and explore further. They needed to contact research institutions or even relevant departments, and prepare comprehensively before returning.
Unlike many adventurous explorers in movies who rush into caves and tombs without any preparation, Shia was clearly more rational.
“I checked, and our ID cards have purchased tickets, we just need to go to the airport and change the booking to go back.”
“Go back…”
Lu Ban pondered for a moment, and then he remembered something important. If everyone in this world was a projection of the real world, and under certain circumstances, they could awaken their original memories, then how did beings like Baobao come to exist?
Lu Ban did not think The Dark One would risk replicating Baobao’s soul. Thus, this world’s Baobao must clearly be nothing more than an ordinary human without a past soul, and she did not appear by Lu Ban’s side but was only seen on a television program, which didn’t reveal much.
With this line of thinking, Lu Ban quickly thought of someone.
This person had appeared beside Lu Ban, and was definitely a character without a soul.
Thinking of this, Lu Ban immediately opened the browser’s search bar and began to look up the person’s name.
