I Go to the High Seas for Fishing But Get Hunted by an Aircraft Carrier
Chapter 450: The Loose Brake Cable
CHAPTER 450: CHAPTER 450: THE LOOSE BRAKE CABLE
The auction house manager curiously voiced his question, but it seemed as if everything was under Ye Chen’s control; he just chuckled with a "heh heh" laugh.
"Could it be that you don’t know who is behind the auctioning of the Yuan blue-and-white porcelain? With his strength, he simply couldn’t confront him, so he didn’t dare to make a move against him. The only one he could act against was this unknown young man, because, in fact, there are very few people who know him."
"So you’re saying he just wanted to casually take a collectible and then return it first as payment? Is it only in such a scenario that he could temporarily gain the trust of those people?"
"Right, that should be the idea."
"It’s outrageous, preying on the easy targets. He probably never expected that the person he robbed actually has a stronger background and more influential connections than the others."
"One can only say that he lacks experience. So, that being said, do you reckon that this whole affair was likely orchestrated by Yang Wenyu?"
"I think we can pretty much confirm it."
"Good. Since it was him, then I know what I should do next."
After finishing his words, Li Fu just nodded. In fact, he already had a good idea of how to resolve the situation.
"I feel like all of this is aimed at me, because he said a phrase to me before, that he would surely teach me a lesson. If that’s the case, Mr. Li, I’d rather you not become involved. You should stay and direct things from here. Let me personally handle this matter."
"What? You’re going to handle it? Do you realize that the Scorpion Gang is not just any simple faction, and in the past, they were actually quite infamous in the Martial Arts World? It’s just that in recent years they’ve begun to act more discreetly, and thus fell out of public knowledge."
"Who cares about the Scorpion Gang or the Tiger Gang, anyone I confront won’t end up with a good outcome. Rest assured, I know what to do."
"Alright, but I still say the same thing: remember to be careful. Do you have the information on Yang Wenyu? If not, I’ll arrange for it to be sent to your phone right now."
"I don’t have that information at the moment."
"Okay, hold on while I arrange it and then I’ll send it to you. If you encounter any difficulties, call me and I’ll provide support from the back end."
"Got it, I understand. Time is also not on our side, Yaru, let’s go back to the city for now. We’ll discuss everything else after tonight’s events."
After the two exchanged their goodbyes, Ye Chen followed Lin Yaru and then directly left the auction house.
When they reached the entrance, just as the two were about to get in the car, Ye Chen suddenly froze, then turned around for another look.
But all around was deserted. After all, the auction had ended, so it was unlikely that anyone would linger here.
"What’s wrong, aren’t you getting in the car? What are you spacing out for?"
Lin Yaru had no idea what had happened; she just saw Ye Chen standing motionless, presumably something must have occurred.
"There should be someone watching me from nearby."
"What did you say? Someone is watching you? That’s impossible, right? Why would they watch you?"
At this point, Lin Yaru suddenly became nervous and glanced around, but all she saw was air and passing cars; she didn’t notice anything else.
"There certainly is someone, and if my guess is correct, these people should be from Yang Wenyu’s gang."
"So what exactly does he want by following us?"
"If it’s just to keep an eye on us, there might not be any significant point, oh no."
Upon this realization, Ye Chen suddenly slapped his forehead and hurriedly pulled Lin Yaru back a couple of steps.
Lin Yaru just looked up curiously, not understanding what Ye Chen meant by that remark or how the situation had gone wrong.
"What’s the matter? What’s going on?"
"The car—it’s very possible that they’ve tampered with it."
"What? Tampered with the car? What could they have done to it? Don’t tell me they’ve planted a bomb?"
"A bomb is unlikely, but just to be safe, let’s not touch this car right now. Wait here while I check it out. Remember to stand over there, far away."
He pointed to a corner, leaving Lin Yaru feeling incredulous.
The deal hadn’t even been concluded yet; how could she be so certain that these people had already sabotaged their car?
But since Ye Chen suspected it, Lin Yaru saw no reason to question him and followed his instructions, backing to the other side of the wall.
Then, Lin Yaru clearly saw Ye Chen move forward and open the car’s hood.
Afterward, Ye Chen kept a careful watch until he finally discovered that the brake line had indeed been tampered with.
If he were to step on the brakes, the brake line would snap instantly, resulting in the car losing all control—a dire situation indeed.
Luckily, he discovered this in time; otherwise, no matter how capable he was, he might have been unable to save them both unharmed on the road.
Witnessing all of this, Ye Chen felt somewhat embarrassed.
He wiped his forehead with his hand, only to find sweat had trickled down unknowingly.
It appeared that dealing with this despicable adversary was imperative.
Initially, he thought he was merely standing up for justice, but now that these people had started to target him directly, the situation seemed to be of great importance. He had to find them and settle everything.
"Come on, you can come over now."
Ye Chen turned around and called out.
But when he looked over, the area was empty, and there was no sign of anyone.
"Yaru, Yaru."
Ye Chen called out loudly, but still, there was no response.
Instantly, Ye Chen realized that something was amiss, and he hurriedly ran in that direction; only after circling the wall did he discover that Lin Yaru was nowhere to be found.
