CHAPTER 24: CHAPTER 24: THE MOST SKILLED AT HYPE

Seeing the loneliness in the woman’s eyes, Danielle Carter felt a pang of sympathy.

"President Quinn, I’ve arranged the kindergarten you asked me to find this morning. He can start tomorrow."

"Thank you for your hard work."

Upon hearing that a kindergarten had been found, Sienna Quinn felt somewhat relieved. After all, she couldn’t always be by Evan Quinn’s side. However, if she didn’t go out to earn money, how could she raise the little guy?

Evan was still just a child. Since she couldn’t accompany him, she hoped he would have a good childhood. He was already more mature than children his age, understanding things too early and being obedient, which pained Sienna to see.

Speaking about finding a kindergarten, Danielle looked at Sienna with curiosity, "President Quinn, you’ve been back for a few days. How come I’ve never seen your husband?"

Sienna’s hand shook slightly as she held the document, feigning calm with a smile.

"My husband passed away."

"He... passed away? I’m sorry, President Quinn."

Realizing she had misspoken, Danielle gazed at Sienna with pity. Not only was she a beauty, but also a highly capable one. Sienna wasn’t much older than her.

In her prime, she had to stay with her child as a widow; truly, it was very pitiful.

Such a woman should have been a wealthy wife at home but now was out there fighting alone, supporting a household by herself. Danielle admired Sienna even more.

"Stephen, for such a minor injury, you don’t have to come. Your work is so busy."

Vera Yates looked at Landon Lawson, seated at the bedside, her small hands feeling awkward, not knowing where to place them.

Landon glanced at the woman’s arm, red and swollen, though it had undergone emergency treatment, the exposed skin was still flushed.

The man’s eyebrows furrowed slightly: "How did this happen?"

"It was my assistant. She couldn’t hold the coffee properly, spilling it right onto my arm."

Vera lowered her head, looking like she had done something wrong.

Landon glanced at the assistant standing next to them, also bandaged, showing displeasure.

"Nolan Shaw, find an experienced assistant."

"Stephen, please don’t. It was an accident, and she just graduated and found this job. Let’s give her another chance."

Vera gently tugged on Landon’s sleeve, her delicate manner was indeed pitiful.

Landon looked at the girl so determined, sighing helplessly.

"You’re always thinking of others, but the one who ends up hurt is always you."

"Isn’t it okay to compromise a little?"

Vera joked with a smile, looking at the girl’s innocent and radiant grin. Landon’s eyes softened with affection as he ruffled Vera’s hair.

The assistant stood by, clinging to her bandaged arm, with a shadowy gaze at the cheerful woman before her.

Vera, to find an excuse, painfully poured the remaining coffee on her own arm.

A self-directed scene, then she could act like a damsel, the assistant suddenly realized the award-winning actress’s skills were indeed extraordinary.

Nolan stepped forward, whispering a few words into the man’s ear, causing his eyebrows to furrow.

"Stephen, you should go back to work. I’m fine here."

"Take good care of yourself; don’t push through the pain to shoot scenes. Delaying a few days is okay."

"I understand. I’ll take good care of myself."

The woman smiled sweetly, watching Landon and Nolan leave.

The smile that was on her face suddenly vanished as she turned to look at the assistant beside her.

"Prepare for discharge."

"Miss Vance, your arm isn’t healed yet. Discharging now might not be wise."

"What do you know? Just do what you’re told, no need for so much nonsense."

Vera glared at her, causing the latter to shrink her neck, clutching her arm as she proceeded to handle the discharge paperwork.

"Don’t spread what happened today, or you know what I’m capable of."

"Yes... Miss Vance."

The assistant shrank her neck; she had witnessed this woman’s insidiousness, being so ruthless to herself, how could she be kind-hearted?

Vera’s lips curved into a meaningful smile, thinking if she struck so fiercely this time, it should be worth it; otherwise, wouldn’t it be a loss?

She, Vera Yates, was the best at maneuvers, conveniently covering up the embarrassment from that day.

"Sienna Quinn, just wait for me!" Her sinister gaze turned toward the window; the previous incident wouldn’t be let off easily. She didn’t believe that the drug given to her would come to her so effortlessly, something must have gone wrong in the process.

The studio was bustling with people, the director sat behind the camera, watching the footage, eyebrows slightly furrowed.

The assistant director standing beside him wore a worried expression.

"Director, Vera is embroiled in a scandal now and she’s injured today. Our filming progress..."

The assistant director’s words were cut short, filled with concern.

"There’s nothing we can do now. Vera has Landon behind her, not to mention the contract is signed and we’ve been filming for over a month. Changing actors at this point is a loss no one can bear."

Their prior choice of Vera was mainly due to her fame; after all, few could rival Actress Vance’s fame.

Now she’s injured, coupled with the rumors outside, if not handled well, it would impact the viewership rates later.

While the two were worried, a commotion arose in the studio, the assistant director turned his head, noticing a small pale face with a bandaged arm, heated.

"Vera Yates?"

The assistant director’s surprise also startled the director; he hurriedly asked those filming to pause and turned to look at Vera approaching.

"Your condition isn’t healed, how come you’re back suddenly?"

Vera’s sudden appearance stunned everyone slightly, not expecting her to return so soon.

Her face pale yet smiling gently, she shook her head and with a weakened voice said, "I can’t let my personal issues impact the filming of the whole crew."

"Really too kind-hearted; if all actors were like you, how could shooting be so hard?"

The assistant director chimed in, but when their gaze fell on the bandaged arm, it flickered, saying nothing more.

Vera noticed their gaze and smiled lightly, "The arm has a minor scald, nothing serious. Later, makeup will cover it."

"Are you sure that’s okay?" The director frowned slightly; a slip might leave scars, and for stars like these, their appearance is crucial.

The woman’s pale face nodded gently, then let the assistant help her to the dressing room to change and touch up makeup.
