CHAPTER 257: CHAPTER 257: LED ASTRAY

This kind of Landon Lawson really makes one feel disgusted.

"Do you feel a great sense of achievement by doing business with my family? Outsiders all say that the Grant Family is a dog raised by the Lawson Family, that our company survives on the alms of the Lawson Family. You always act so superior, as if everyone in the world owes you money, treating me like a dog of yours while showing fake sincerity in friendship. Do you feel especially proud every time you see me? Thinking that without you, my family wouldn’t survive?"

Listening to the man spilling his guts, Landon Lawson’s expression finally changed slightly.

There was disappointment in his eyes.

"So that’s how you’ve always seen me," Landon scoffed at himself. No one knows the Grant Family’s situation better than Landon; he knows what Miles’s father is like, so he never asks Miles anything about the Grant Group because he knows Miles is a doctor and never gets involved in these business scheming. Landon never wanted him to get involved.

Before, he did give the Grant Family a lot of business, but it was just to ease Miles’s burden a little. Mr. Grant is an incompetent person who only hides when there’s trouble.

Miles is one of the few people in this circle who can fight for his dreams, and Landon just wanted to protect that purity.

But today, he realized that this protective thought, in Miles’s eyes, was a show of arrogance.

"Landon Lawson, what are you doing putting on such an act in front of me? Haven’t we known each other for years? Originally, I could stand on equal footing with you, but no, our Grant Family just loves accepting your Lawson Family’s charity. Every time you help our family, I feel so ashamed, like I’m just PR released by the Grant Family to maintain a good relationship with you."

The more Miles spoke, the more agitated he became, until finally, he who was always gentle and never raised his voice shouted completely, waking up the old butler and the servants who were already resting with his shout.

A servant opened the door wanting to go out and see what was happening, but was stopped by the old butler.

The old butler looked in the direction of the living room; that voice was too familiar. It was Miles, who had played with Landon since they were children. How did these two, who were good friends since childhood, suddenly fall out?

"Ah, just a bunch of hot-headed young people, their minds unsettled." The old butler returned to his room. Landon had already instructed that no matter what happened tonight, no one was to come out.

Landon watched as Miles continued to bellow, recounting every single favor the Lawson Family had done over the years, from childhood to the present, all without omission.

Until he spoke of today’s business from Lawson Group for the Grant Family.

Once finished, Miles gasped for air, looking at Landon, who hadn’t said a word for a full hour, just listening to Miles.

The man laughed miserably, "How about it? Do you feel particularly noble now? Without you, our Grant Family is nothing. You’ve been feeding the whole Grant Group."

"Are you done?"

The man who had been silent finally spoke, and Miles was taken aback, staring dumbfoundedly at the expressionless man. Why? Why wasn’t he angry? After speaking so rudely, given Landon’s character, shouldn’t he have kicked him out and suppressed the Grant Family?

Make the Grant Family understand that Landon Lawson is not to be trifled with.

But Landon’s reaction was too calm, to the point it was unacceptable.

"If you’re done, then it’s my turn to speak now." Landon coughed slightly, looking at Miles with unwavering eyes.

"I didn’t know my actions caused you such harm. Originally, I just wanted to help you a little. You’re a doctor; you’re not well-versed in the business world. This isn’t your territory. Helping you within my capabilities was what I was willing to do. I never considered you a dog I raised. You are my friend."

Landon rarely speaks so much in one go. Miles stared at Landon in disbelief, pupils wide.

Suddenly burst into loud laughter, holding his belly as he laughed, "Landon Lawson, it’s the first time I’ve seen you say so much since we were little. It’s really troubling you."

Miles leaned on the coffee table with both hands, leaning forward to close the distance with Landon, speaking provocatively, "I don’t want your charity, nor do I want to see you pretend in front of me, but I have no choice, even if I don’t want it, our Grant Family won’t agree. See, I’m just so spineless. Compared to you, I’m just a coward."

"I’m sorry!"

The man’s pupils shrank, and all the aggressive aura vanished in an instant, staring blankly at Landon’s eyes, filled with disbelief.

"What did you say?"

He scratched his ear; could it be his ear was malfunctioning? Why would he hear Landon say ’I’m sorry’? Such a proud man would say ’I’m sorry’? Isn’t this a huge joke? Truly laughable.

Looks like his ears really have a problem, should get them checked.

"You heard right, I said I’m sorry!" Landon repeated once more.

Miles was completely stunned, his pupils gradually enlarging.

Landon spoke again, "I didn’t know my existence brought you so much harm. I won’t do that again in the future. I will gradually let go, but I hope you won’t go astray because of the Grant Family."

Astray?

Miles furrowed his brows. What does Landon mean? Did he find out something?

The thought barely arose when Miles felt a shock of panic. That matter must not be known by Landon, must not! It’s his last bit of dignity, without it, he could never hold his head high in front of Landon again.

"What did you say?"

Seeing Miles’s evasive, guilty eyes, Landon painfully closed his eyes, filled with deep anguish. He guessed right. When he saw Miles’s guilty look, he realized what Nolan Shaw had found out and what Sienna Quinn said was true, that Miles indeed had secret dealings outside.

"I want you to tell me yourself, as long as you tell me now, no matter how big a problem, I will help you solve it."

"Landon Lawson, are you crazy? What could I have going on? I’m so busy at the hospital every day, you really think I have time to play house with you? Still want to play truth or dare? Even now you still think to control me?"

Looking at Miles, stubbornly refusing to speak the truth.

Landon knew he had already given him many chances. This was the last one, the last opportunity for him to speak up.
