CHAPTER 348: CHAPTER 348: MRS. LAWSON’S COMPLAINTS

Throwing this heap of junk at him while enjoying a life abroad. Only his old man could concoct such a situation.

How could he not be angry? Leaving the good life behind, forcing him to return home and endure such hardship. He’s asked himself for decades, is he really his father’s son?

But Martin Kerr ultimately didn’t ask these questions. If he did, he’d surely be scolded horribly by his old man.

"You rascal, no matter what happens, just listen to Landon Lawson."

"You really trust Landon Lawson, huh? Aren’t you afraid we’ll capsize this time?" Martin truly admired his father’s temperament, something he could never cultivate in his lifetime. He remained unmoved, as though the company were completely unrelated to him.

The old man yawned on the phone. Repeatedly saying, "It’s getting late. I should rest here. Just do your part over there."

"Father, really..."

Before Martin could finish, the other person had already hung up, the phone emitting the beeping sound. Martin chuckled helplessly; his old man could certainly be hands-off. If he failed, he would surely be scolded fiercely.

Lawson family mansion.

Mrs. Lawson sat in the prayer room, burning incense, worshipping Buddha, eating vegetarian meals, and reciting scriptures. She’d lost track of how long she had lived like this. Since her husband passed away, she had become a recluse, only dressing formally for necessary occasions, usually donning simple vegetarian attire.

"Madam, Miss Vance is here."

"Vera’s here?" Mrs. Lawson, keeping her eyes tightly shut, suddenly opened them upon hearing Vera had arrived. A gleam brightened her face. Having watched Vera grow up, her love for her was evident, considering her the genuine daughter-in-law.

Had it not been for Old Mr. Lawson, Landon and Vera would probably have been married with children by now.

"Where is Vera now?"

"Miss Vance is currently sitting in the main hall," the old butler slowly replied.

Mrs. Lawson stood up with a couple of calls, instructing the butler to assist her, slowly making their way toward the main hall. Vera rarely visited, yet every time she did, Mrs. Lawson was elated.

Vera sat in the main hall, glancing around at the traditional decor of this old mansion. Mrs. Lawson lived here regularly, rather than staying with Landon.

Vera frowned, spitting disdainfully, muttering to herself, "If it weren’t for Landon, why would I come to such a rundown place?"

In her efforts to please Landon’s mother, Vera had gone to great lengths, portraying herself as virtuous. Ultimately, her plans were thwarted by Old Mr. Lawson.

Today, she wanted to chat casually with Mrs. Lawson, aiming to further strain Sienna and Landon’s relationship, hoping for a chance to marry into the Lawson family.

"Vera, why didn’t you let me know you were coming?"

Clearly, Mrs. Lawson truly adored Vera; her voice arrived in the hall even before she did.

"Auntie, I’m just here to see you," Vera said sweetly.

Although Vera disliked the place, lacking modern amenities like internet, with Mrs. Lawson preferring such a lifestyle, young people like Vera couldn’t bear it.

Nonetheless, she continued the charade, driven by her desire for Landon and recognizing Mrs. Lawson as Landon’s mother.

Despite her unwillingness, she had to play the part.

Vera’s expression showed reluctance, yet it was unavoidable.

"You should visit me more often; I think about you until I’m almost upset," Mrs. Lawson said, clutching Vera’s hand.

"Auntie, my work kept me busy before, hence I seldom visited. I really wish I could see you every day."

"Then come around! You’re always welcome here," Mrs. Lawson said, beaming as she tightly held Vera’s hand.

Vera’s smile faded to bitterness in an instant.

Seeing that, Mrs. Lawson felt a pang of distress. "Why that expression? Has someone bullied you?"

"No one’s bullied me, but..." Vera spoke, choking with emotion, confirming her acting skills as tears easily flowed.

Her pitiful appearance deeply pained Mrs. Lawson.

"Say what’s troubling you. If someone’s dared to bully you, I’ll teach them a lesson," Mrs. Lawson said, evidently upset.

Vera felt a surge of joy, yet she concealed it, appearing pitifully as she said, "It’s Sienna, always monopolizing Landon."

"Sienna again..." Mrs. Lawson’s expression darkened. That jinx tried hard to marry into the Lawson family, disappearing the day after the wedding, later returning with a child. Mrs. Lawson couldn’t believe she was innocent, seeing her as cunning beyond appearances.

With that approach, she captured her beloved son’s heart; Landon even got hurt for her last time.

Even in coma, he called out her name. What made her worthy of her son’s love? Was it just thanks to their child? Mrs. Lawson did like Evan, her adorable grandson.

However, using a child to elevate status was dreaming.

Vera studied Mrs. Lawson’s expression, smiling, achieving the desired effect.

"Yes, Landon’s been gloomy lately, just work without any leisure," Vera said, frowning, though inwardly elated. She wanted Mrs. Lawson to address Sienna, saving her effort.

"Gloomy... is it because of his arm?" Mrs. Lawson muttered.

Since the injury, Landon seemed somewhat changed.

"I think he’s been enchanted by Sienna. If it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t have been hurt, nearly losing his life."
