I Have A Solo Mommy Plan, But Daddy Refuses to Let Go
Chapter 40: A Woman’s Schemes
CHAPTER 40: CHAPTER 40: A WOMAN’S SCHEMES
With a wronged expression, she picked up her things and was about to leave.
Vera Yates squinted her eyes, looking at the clueless assistant, full of disdain and disgust: "Stephen has left, what are you doing leaving too? Who hired you? Can’t you use your brain a little?"
The young assistant was caught in a bind, feeling wronged. Clearly, it was her fault that Landon Lawson wouldn’t stay, and yet all the blame was shifted onto her.
Vera Yates lay angrily on the hospital bed, her narrow eyes squinting into a line, a resentful look flowing from her gaze.
The young assistant stood aside, startled by the venom in the woman’s eyes, wondering who would suffer next.
Vera Yates took out her phone, her slender fingers tapping lightly on it, as a gloomy smile gradually spread across her face.
At this moment, the TV in the VIP hospital room was broadcasting news about Vera Yates.
The originally gloomy expression on the woman’s face finally softened a bit.
"Call Director Linton at the TV station and tell him I’m very satisfied with this report. As a token of appreciation, I agree to the phone interview we talked about earlier."
The young assistant acknowledged, turning to go out and make the call.
"Where do you think you’re going? Do it here, I want to listen!" Vera Yates said impatiently.
The assistant frowned, thinking why doesn’t she make the call herself if she wants to listen?
But of course, she wouldn’t dare voice this complaint in front of Vera Yates, as she’d already learned well what kind of person Vera was—vicious with no limits, her polished exterior merely a cover.
So the young assistant could only hold back, angry yet afraid to speak out, fearing Vera Yates’ retaliation.
The assistant dialed Director Linton’s number and said: "Hello, Director Linton, I’m Miss Vera Yates’ assistant. Our Miss Linton has seen your report and is very pleased. As an act of reciprocity, she can accept your phone interview."
"That’s wonderful news! We’ve been eagerly waiting for the day we could finally have the revered Miss Yates." Director Linton said, laughing excitedly.
The phone was on speaker, and Vera Yates listened by the side. Upon hearing this, she snickered coldly and signaled the assistant with her eyes.
"Director Linton, you should know that our Miss Yates is usually very reluctant to do interviews. This is truly an exception, and it’s only because of your Director Linton that she’s agreeing. So from now on, you must take special care with Miss Yates’ reports."
Although the assistant was reluctant, she still followed Vera Yates’ instructions.
"Of course, we would never neglect someone of Miss Yates’ rising fame and prominence, especially with President Lawson’s support."
Upon hearing the name "President Lawson," Vera Yates’ eyes lit up. She immediately whispered to the assistant, "Ask about Stephen."
"Did you mean that President Lawson also supports your television station regarding our Miss Yates?" the assistant asked.
"Absolutely. Previously, during that..." Director Linton paused, almost blurting out the incident’s name.
Director Linton laughed awkwardly and continued, "During that mishap, President Lawson’s secretary, Mr. Shaw, personally called our station manager. The manager specifically instructed us to be especially attentive to Miss Yates’ news reports in the future."
Landon Lawson’s company places a large number of TV ads with the station each year, being a major client. Even the manager has to be courteous.
Vera Yates beamed with satisfaction, her mood instantly lightening. She disregarded what the assistant and Director Linton discussed next, savoring Landon Lawson’s attention towards her.
"Miss Yates, everything is arranged. The phone interview is set for tomorrow at two in the afternoon. They’ll ask a few questions, and we’ll receive the questions in advance." the assistant said after hanging up the phone.
"Handle it properly. Don’t let them ask any boring questions, especially about that previous incident! Focus on my new show and my acting skills."
Then Vera Yates suddenly added, "It’s fine to ask a bit about Stephen and me. I don’t mind sharing the sweet moments between Stephen and me with fans who adore me."
This made the assistant roll her eyes inwardly. Other female stars try to keep their personal lives under wraps, but Vera Yates wants everyone to know she’s with Landon Lawson.
Let everyone who knows them know she and Landon Lawson are a couple and very much in love, especially that woman.
Thinking of Sienna Quinn, Vera Yates couldn’t help but clench her teeth, a shadow flitting across her eyes.
"Understood, Miss Yates, I’ll arrange it." the assistant nodded in acknowledgment.
Vera Yates suddenly frowned, glaring at the assistant, "You’ve been pulling long faces these days. Is it that I’m not paying you enough, or do you have some dissatisfaction with me?"
"No..." the assistant stammered, shaking her head.
Vera Yates snorted coldly, "There are countless people wanting to be my assistant. Stephen has already mentioned firing you. I only kept you by my side out of pity, seeing your inexperience. Don’t be ungrateful."
The assistant muttered under her breath, "Might as well be fired."
"What did you say?" Vera Yates squinted at her, asking.
"I said... thank you, Miss Yates, for your care." The assistant submitted, intimidated by Vera Yates’ tyranny.
Given Vera Yates’ current abilities, dealing with an assistant like her was akin to squashing an ant. From then on, she might not be able to continue working in the industry, so she could only comply reluctantly.
"As long as you know to be grateful." Vera Yates snorted coldly.
...
Bam! A document was slammed on the table, Sienna Quinn squinting her eyes, staring straight at Dominic Lowell, her brows furrowed slightly, "Is this the kind of plan that people at headquarters come up with?"
Dominic Lowell and the others were taken aback, not expecting this seemingly young girl to be so imposing. In work, the aura she exuded wasn’t that of a little girl at all.
The overwhelming presence weighed on them, silencing all three.
"My goal in returning is to secure the HR Group partnership. If you want to use this plan, you might as well withdraw now." Sienna Quinn said, her eyes calm yet with a sternness that made Dominic Lowell freeze in place, a fine layer of cold sweat forming on his back.
"This...okay, I’ll go back and revise it."
Dominic Lowell nodded, wiping the sweat from his forehead, a small action that didn’t escape Sienna Quinn’s notice.
The other two, seeing Dominic Lowell like this, also didn’t dare speak, following Sienna Quinn’s instructions and ending the meeting, exchanging helpless looks as they left the meeting room first.
"Sigh, she’s really too strict; looks like we’ll be working overtime again."
"I really didn’t expect, at such a young age, President Quinn to be stricter than anyone else." Hector Warren, being older, carried more weight in the group and shook his head helplessly, knowing he and his subordinates would be working late.
