CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: ACTUALLY, I HAVE A DAD

Tom Quinn awkwardly opened his mouth, then smiled to cover his embarrassment.

"I did call you, but couldn’t reach you. Didn’t your classmates tell you your family called?"

"Oh? Really? That’s quite unfortunate. For the past five years, every call from home I’ve never received, and classmates never told me either. Seems I’ve made false friends." Sienna Quinn shook her head with a smile, but her sharp words made Tom Quinn deeply ashamed.

The friends around Tom Quinn were all in a daze. Matters with the Quinn Family weren’t as simple as they seemed. Tom Quinn hadn’t been in control of the company for long; it had been in Sienna Quinn’s father’s hands back then.

Who knows what dirty secrets lie within such a high-society family feud?

Sienna Quinn’s parents died in a car accident suddenly back then, the case closed hastily, and the Quinn Family didn’t pursue it, everything so bizarre. Now listening to Sienna and Tom Quinn, several people exchanged glances, it seems there really are unknown matters here.

Voices of gossip around made Tom Quinn’s face quite unsightly.

"Make some time to visit Grandma," he said before leaving as if fleeing.

Watching Tom Quinn’s fleeing figure, Sienna Quinn smirked slowly. Evildoers reap evil; it’s time to repay the sins committed back then.

Far overseas, Axel Yates was dining and chatting when his phone suddenly rang. He smiled lightly upon seeing Sienna Quinn’s video call.

"What’s up? Is it good news?"

"Of course, negotiations with HR went smoothly, just one more step. As long as during the assessment period, we prove it’s more worthy of cooperation than with Lawson Group, we’ll secure this deal."

Sienna Quinn cheerfully reported the situation, even showing their gathering during dinner.

Axel Yates exchanged pleasantries with a smile.

"What are you doing overseas? As far as I know, with the HR Group collaboration secured, why are you still negotiating deals?"

Sienna Quinn was quite puzzled by Axel Yates suddenly going overseas for business; logically, shouldn’t this be the critical moment with HR Group?

Axel Yates smiled lightly, "I won’t go against money. Since it can be earned, why mind having too much business?"

"Once you’re back, I’ll offer the HR Group collaboration to you." They hung up the voice call.

The man sitting opposite Axel Yates smiled, "Why deceive, President Yates? I can’t give you millions or billions; I’m merely a private investigator."

Axel Yates pocketed his phone, looking deeply at the man before him.

Wearing a clean Zhongshan suit with an 80s vibe, and his profession happens to be a private investigator.

"If you can really help me uncover the truth, it’ll be more important to me than a billion-dollar deal."

"This matter took place years ago; investigating now will take time, but as long as I’m on the case, no matter how difficult, I will find out for you," the man confidently smiled.

Axel Yates had returned from overseas precisely for this man. Back then, his parents’ mysterious death was a knot in his heart. Many companies competed with the Yates Group for business back then; if that deal succeeded, it would have completely changed the landscape, making the Yates Group reign above others.

Yet on the day before signing the contract, his parents suddenly died at home, without any struggle or abnormalities.

Axel Yates didn’t believe it was merely an accident.

In business, there are open and covert matters; nothing is entirely transparent.

Axel Yates handed the information he’d gathered over the years to the private investigator, asking him to focus on investigating these groups.

Since Evan Quinn stood up for Chloe, his status in kindergarten had changed, while Nate often badmouthed Evan Quinn behind his back.

"I heard from my mom, Evan Quinn is just a bastard without a dad’s upbringing."

"You mean he doesn’t have a dad?" The children nearby were curious, while Nate recounted everything his mom said at home to the kids in kindergarten.

Nate turned his head, mockingly looking at Evan Quinn reading a book.

"When have you ever seen his dad come to pick him up?"

With Nate’s words, everyone nodded in agreement. Though they all knew Chloe’s family conditions were good, her mom a company powerhouse, even so, a dad should appear sometimes.

The gossiping noises continued, a small hand clutching a book tightly slammed it on the table, frightening Nate to retreat instinctively, saying nervously, "What? Are you going to hit me again? Last time I let you off, this time I won’t."

Last time, Nate was scolded by his mom upon being brought home because Sienna Quinn embarrassed her, attempting to regain face through her son, and specially investigated Sienna Quinn’s background, finding she’s a returned single mom raising Evan Quinn alone.

She taught Nate early on how to say these things in kindergarten.

Evan Quinn’s face looked unpleasant, his pupils contracted at Nate, fists clenched tightly, chest rising and falling, suppressing his anger.

"Evan, don’t be mad, let’s go play over there." Chloe timely grasped Evan Quinn’s little hand.

He had a look of surprise on his cold little face as Chloe led him away.

"Evan, don’t listen to his nonsense; you’re the best in my heart." Chloe handed over her teddy bear. A toy she cherished was willingly offered to Evan Quinn.

Eyes lowered: "Do those words not bother you?"

"Of course not, let me tell you a little secret," Chloe sweetly smiled.

Her mysterious demeanor intrigued Evan Quinn.

Chloe leaned in to whisper mysteriously, "I actually don’t have a mom, so I really envy you."

Evan Quinn froze for a moment; he truly didn’t know Chloe didn’t have a mom. He gently grasped the little girl’s hand in empathy.

"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to."

"It’s okay, my dad tells me mom’s soul resides in this teddy bear, watching me grow every day, so don’t be sad."

Chloe’s earnestness, and Evan Quinn learned from her that her mom had died of illness, leaving behind just this teddy bear.

That’s why usually kind Chloe protected her teddy bear fiercely last time when Nate wanted it, not letting him have it.

Evan Quinn lowered his head, muttering in a voice only he could hear, "I actually don’t have a dad."
