CHAPTER 958: CHAPTER 956: WHAT A GLUTTON
"Hit that one, hit that one, take that thing down for me!"
"Yes, yes, and that one too—it’s awesome, get rid of it for me!"
Zhang Menglong was frantically commanding those puppets in the base, and they seemed to be tirelessly working for him like wage laborers.
Of course, the materials of these puppets weren’t really impervious to swords and guns; Level Seven or even Level Eight life forms could still inflict some damage on them. But the materials had a significant characteristic: they possessed the ability to self-repair.
As long as they weren’t completely destroyed, they could slowly recover in high heat, and that’s when Zhang Menglong’s Strange Fire could come into play.
This Beast Tide lasted a full week, and when it ended, all the treasure hunters fled from this steel city as fast as they could.
These days, they spent every day in constant fear, worried Zhang Menglong would come up with another way to exploit them, to fleece them.
The whole city was instantly left with just Zhang Menglong alone.
But he didn’t care. To be honest, these people didn’t have much left on them to be squeezed out anymore. It might be better to let them go wild outside, maybe sooner or later, he can harvest another batch like spring onions.
These days, Zhang Menglong’s Black Warriors have taken down countless ferocious beasts, multitudes of Level Five and Level Six, possibly not less than ten million, and at least seven million. As for Level Seven and Level Eight, there were also quite a number, and all the items dropped by those beasts piled up like a small mountain in Zhang Menglong’s Super God Academy.
The majority of them were energy barytes, herbs and some metallic materials, and tens of thousands of star cores—a relatively precious item.
But the most special among them would be a golden egg.
This egg was enormous, even on Earth, the largest egg would be an ostrich egg, but this egg was at least twice the size of a basketball.
"Gou Dan, what kind of egg is this?" Zhang Menglong kept comparing it with patterns on the cosmic encyclopedia, but couldn’t find anything similar. "Who knows how many billions of years this thing has been around. Can it still hatch anything? Isn’t it already a fossil?"
"No, I can still detect some weak life reactions inside," Gou Dan said. "If Earth’s technology advances for a few more hundred years, life freezing technology could mature. For a civilization of Zuda’s level, freezing an egg is no big deal."
"But I really don’t know what this is," Gou Dan remarked, "It should be a very ancient species, possibly extinct even before your universe’s life species encyclopedia was established."
"That’s really strange; can you analyze it?" Zhang Menglong asked curiously.
"Data analysis is already underway," Gou Dan replied. "Based on the data I’ve analyzed now, this egg should belong to a Dragon Clan species. Their gene fragments match more than 98%, with additional genes not found in dragon beasts. This gene fragment doesn’t exist in any known life form in this universe.
"Could it possibly be a species from another parallel universe?" Zhang Menglong boldly speculated.
"That’s possible," unexpectedly, Gou Dan didn’t rule out such a possibility. "Occasionally, intersections occur between parallel universes. It might be a life form from another universe that accidentally entered this one, and was then picked up by the Cosmic Empire’s masters in the Zuda Universe, and casually tossed into this treasure vault."
"Can it be hatched?" Zhang Menglong knocked on the eggshell and surprisingly felt a faint sound coming from inside.
"When the egg popped out, it had already defrosted. You might want to try warming it with some flame."
Zhang Menglong flipped his hand, and a fierce Strange Fire burst into flames in his palm.
"Hey, hey, hey, I said warm it, why are you bringing out the Strange Fire? Are you trying to make a roasted dragon egg?" Gou Dan immediately advised against it.
But even Gou Dan didn’t expect that this egg would actively start to absorb the Strange Fire in Zhang Menglong’s palm.
"Interesting!" Zhang Menglong watched the egg with great interest. There weren’t many things in this world that could withstand the temperature of Strange Fire. If it were an ordinary egg, it wouldn’t be absorbing the fire; it would probably be reduced to ashes with just a touch of the fire.
He gradually increased the firepower, alternating between a gentle and strong flame, as if teasing a child to the point of crying with envy—but of course, that’s just a joke.
"Crack!" Finally, with a faint sound, a crack appeared on the egg.
"Isn’t it going to hatch a little chick?" Zhang Menglong moved closer to the crack to take a look.
"Dean, don’t say ’yeah’ when you say ’chicken’; keep it civilized."
"Don’t mind these details; say ’yeah’ and ’chicken,’ civilization be damned!"
Peering through the gap, Zhang Menglong saw a pink thing squirming inside. "Isn’t this going to be a maggot?"
Finally, after a few minutes of struggle, the egg opened up a gap, and a pink head emerged from the opening—yes, it was just a head, with nothing else attached.
This was a little creature with long ears on its head, sharp fangs in its mouth, and a pink little tongue licking the mucus off the eggshell.
"What’s going on?"
As someone not tormented by cartoons of Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf during childhood, but someone who grew up with Digimon, Zhang Menglong spent his elementary school days waiting for Digimon to air on TV during mealtime every day.
This pink ball was, without a doubt, the baby form of Agumon, the Botamon!
"Dean, I found its information. It’s a Botamon from the Digimon world. I have all its information here. The extra genes it has are called Mutated Genes, and when it reaches a certain level, it will undergo significant changes in appearance and power, and they can freely control these transformations. This change is called..."
"Isn’t this evolution? Do you think I haven’t watched Digimon?"
"Slap!" Zhang Menglong slapped his own face, "I’m a postgraduate with an academy degree in Huaxia’s two academies. I’m well-read; don’t lie to me! How did this thing end up in our world? Did the dimensional barrier break?"
The Botamon leaped out of the eggshell and jumped straight onto Zhang Menglong’s shoulder, snuggling against his face.
"Daddy!"
"Daddy?" Zhang Menglong suddenly felt his mind buzzing.
"Hahaha, Dean, it’s the innate instinct of oviparous creatures to consider the first thing they see as their parent. This bond is much stronger than any contract you could sign with a ferocious beast."
"Is this thing powerful?" Zhang Menglong patted Botamon’s head; it was soft and felt quite nice to the touch.
"At least in your universe, it’s considered extremely strong," Gou Dan remarked, "You should know, Botamon’s ultimate evolution is WarGreymon. Its strength should be at the peak of a Level Nine Life Form!"
"Whoa, that’s awesome!" Zhang Menglong immediately got excited, "Then I should nurture it well!"
"Daddy, I’m hungry!" Botamon looked at Zhang Menglong with puppy-dog eyes.
Not knowing what to do, Zhang Menglong rummaged through his storage space. He didn’t know if Botamon ate meat, but he went ahead and tossed out the corpse of the Comoros Dragon.
Botamon sniffed the Comoros Dragon’s body a couple of times, and its eyes lit up. With the seemingly fragile baby teeth, it started devouring the meat of this Level Eight Life Form in large bites.
"Dean, although it’s an anime world setting, it is a pure Dragon Clan member. Even as a baby, it doesn’t shy away from eating meat—the higher the level of the beast meat, the more nutritious it is for him."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk," Zhang Menglong watched, delighted. "This one’s a real foodie too!"
