CHAPTER 63: SLOW REALIZATION?

THANKFULLY, there were paramedics on stand-by at the filming site.

Hence, Wonyoung’s busted lip was treated right away.

After that, Yun Dujun brought him inside his huge and fancy van to rest.

Spencer Choi was left outside to talk to Director Gong Joonho while Nana went back to the tent to tidy up since they were about to leave.

"Sunbae-nim, I should help Nana..."

Yun Dujun shot Wonyoung a cold glare. "Have you lost your mind, Hoobae-nim? You were hurt."

"A busted lip is hardly an injury, Sunbae-nim."

"Yah."

Wonyoung acted like he was zipping his mouth.

"Tell me what happened," Yun Dujun said, sighing. "How did you get in a fight with Actress Jo Inha-ssi’s manager?"

"That thug wanted me to deliver a gift to you. But, Sunbae-nim, that gift was oozing with Omega pheromones! Everyone knows you’re an Alpha, even kids. So, giving you a ’present’ like that could only mean one thing— they were trying to intoxicate you with Omega pheromones!"

"Ah, is that so?"

"Why are you being calm... oh. This isn’t the first time that something like this has happened to you."

Wonyoung belatedly realized that such a thing had happened frequently during their college days, especially when Yun Dujun was still active in their theatre club.

Even so...

"Sunbae-nim, you shouldn’t get used to stuff like this."

"I’m a Dominant Alpha, so I don’t really get affected by other Omegas’ pheromones," Yun Dujun said nonchalantly. "Only your pheromones affect me, Hoobae-nim."

Aigoo.

"You should start suing people, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, sighing while shaking his head. "That way, they would be scared to pull this kind of shit again."

"It’s rare for you to curse, Hoobae-nim."

"I often curse, but I hold back in front of you, Sunbae-nim."

"Why would you do that?"

"Because you’re an elder?"

"You treat me as an elder, but can’t call me ’hyung.’"

"Anyway, I can tell that Actress Jo Inha-ssi is an Omega like me," Wonyoung said, quickly changing the topic. "But does she really want to give that present to you, Sunbae-nim? She looks like a nice person. That or she’s good at acting nice."

"I don’t know whether Actress Jo Inha-ssi is a good person or not, but I know that her agency is bad."

"Bad? How?"

"Hoobae-nim, have you heard about loan shark companies transitioning to become legal businesses?"

"I think it was an issue before I fell into a coma?"

"Correct. The big loan shark companies have successfully transitioned into legal construction companies. Well, their business is registered legally, but they remain shady. But some of those companies are backed by chaebols, so they’re here to stay whether the ordinary people like it or not."

Right.

Chaebols run this country.

"Anyway, the smaller loan shark companies that don’t have the backing of a chaebol family have transitioned into sketchy entertainment companies," Yun Dujun continued with his explanation. "It’s an open secret in the industry that Actress Jo Inha-ssi’s agency is one of those loan shark companies-turned-entertainment companies."

Oh.

No wonder her manager acts like a thug!

"I don’t know how Actress Jo Inha-ssi ended up in that agency, but it’s safe to assume that she might be forced to do things she doesn’t really want to do."

"Like sending you a gift full of pheromones?"

Yun Dujun nodded. "I’ve filmed a commercial with Actress Jo Inha-ssi a few months ago. She didn’t act like she was interested in me then. In fact, she was very professional. So, I can’t really imagine her sending me a gift laced with her pheromones."

"Let’s assume that it was her company that sent that gift. Why would they do that? Should we ask Actress Jo Inha-ssi?"

"No."

"No?"

"Let Daepyonim handle it."

"But I’m curious."

"This is why I don’t want you to dig deeper," Yun Dujun scolded Wonyoung. "Hoobae-nim, you’re too kind for your own good. Once you find out that Actress Jo Inha-ssi is in trouble, I’m sure you’ll help her. She’s involved with real-life thugs, so don’t put yourself in danger like you did today. Next time, just run to me instead of confronting people like that."

"I have no intention of helping her," Wonyoung said defensively. "I was just curious why her company was targeting you. It’s my job as your manager to protect you, Sunbae-nim."

"No, it’s not a part of your job to put your life at risk to protect me," Yun Dujun said, sighing. "I didn’t bring a bodyguard with me because I thought the shoot would end quickly. But, next time, I’m bringing a bodyguard for you."

"What about the bodyguards who always follow you around, Sunbae-nim?"

"I don’t bring them with me when I’m working as an actor. When I do, I just bring the bodyguards provided by the company."

"Why do you do that? It’s not strange if an A-list actor has a few bodyguards."

"Some of them are my mother’s eyes, so I don’t bring them to work."

Oh.

"I have nothing nice to say about Sunbae-nim’s mother, so I’ll just keep my mouth shut."

Yun Dujun just nodded. "Anyway, do you want to sue that thug?"

"But you said not to get involved with them, Sunbae-nim."

"Yes, but if you decide to sue them, my legal representatives will take care of it. You don’t have to do anything."

Aigoo.

"No, I don’t want to sue," Wonyoung said, suddenly grabbing Yun Dujun’s sleeve. "But I want to receive the settlement fee from their side, Sunbae-nim. It’s not about the amount of money. I just want to let that thug know that I’m not a pushover. That the next time something like this happens, I’m gonna sue."

"Alright. I’ll take care of it," Yun Dujun said, gently patting Wonyoung’s head. "Let’s have something tasty later."

We always eat delicious food, though?

***

IT WAS embarrassing, but Wonyoung got apologies from Director Gong Joohon and other staff members, even though the people who needed to apologize to him had already left.

Yep, Jo Inha and her thug manager immediately had already ’fled’ the ’scene.’

I think it’s about time for us to leave, too.

Wonyoung was about to head back to the van to help Nana put her things in the cargo when, suddenly, someone grabbed him by the arm.

"B-Bae Wonyoung-ssi, are you an Omega?!"

Aigoo.

"Asking about my Secondary Gender isn’t only rude, but it’s also a form of harassment, ma’am," Wonyoung reminded the woman gently. He still spoke politely because the woman looked older than him. Plus, he saw her with Director Gong Joohon earlier. "May I know what this is all about?"

"Oh, I’m sorry!" the woman immediately let go of Wonyoung’s arm. "I’m not a weird person. I mean, I’m pretty weird. But not in a bad way."

Pfft.

She looks harmless, so let’s be friendly.

"I’m Shin Yuna, a screenwriter," the woman introduced herself. "I’m currently working in a new project, and our team is still in the casting cage."

Oh?

Casting stage?

Wonyoung’s ears perked up.

Is it going to be an audition opportunity?

"Wonyoung-ssi, I heard that you were a theatre actor, too? You were Actor Yun Dujun-ssi’s hoobae in the theatre club?"

"Yes, ma’am."

"Perfect! We’re actually looking for an actor who could convince the audience that he could pass off as an Alpha despite being an Omega," Shin Yuna said excitedly. "I think you’re perfect for the role, Wonyoung-ssi."

Oh, it really is an audition opportunity!

"Of course, you still have to audition. We want to see you act, after all," Shin Yuna said. "What do you think, Wonyoung-ssi?"

"I’ll do it, ma’am," Wonyoung said calmly, finishing it off with a bright smile. "Thank you for the opportunity."

***

"DUJUN-AH, don’t get caught."

"What are you talking about, Cheolmin Sunbae-nim?"

Yun Dujun had just finished saying goodbye to Director Gong Joonho and the staff members when Seo Cheolmin— who didn’t have a scene to film in the meantime— caught him when he was about to walk towards Bae Wonyoung.

After all, he saw a woman approach his Omega.

I should have known that Bae Wonyoung will catch attention wherever he goes.

In fact, people wouldn’t stop talking about how good-looking Bae Wonyoung was.

And how he looked cool confronting the thug earlier.

Tsk.

"Your manager isn’t just a manager to you, is he?" Seo Cheolmin asked teasingly. "I’ve never seen you angry before— not even when an obsessed fan tried to assault you with their pheromones on stage. But the look on your face earlier? Man, you’re lucky there are no reporters around."

Yun Dujun tilted his head to one side. "What did I look like earlier, Sunbae-nim?"

"Like you were ready to kill Inha-ssi’s manager for hitting Wonyoung-ssi."

"Oh."

Seo Cheolmin grinned while patting Yun Dujun’s back. "Dujun-ah, don’t forget to invite me to your wedding, okay?"

Yun Dujun just let out a small laugh.

Bae Wonyoung and I have already been married for years, though?

***

"WE’RE going to pick up our Yuhyun from school?"

"Yes. His nannies and bodyguards usually take him home. But since my schedule for today is done, we can go and pick him up."

"I’m sure Yuhyun would be happy..." Wonyoung trailed off, and then he gasped. "I should have asked Nana to hide my wound with makeup. I don’t want Yuhyun to think that his papa is a delinquent."

"Then let’s just tell Yuhyun that you hit your face in the door."

"Yuhyun will call me ’dummy’ again. But I guess it’s better than him finding out the truth." Wonyoung paused, and then he sighed. "I should be more patient next time. It’s embarrassing to get into a fight when I’m already a mother."

"It’s okay to act the way you usually do. But when things get dangerous, just run away and snitch on me," Yun Dujun said nonchalantly. "I’ll take care of everything, like I’ve always done."

"Don’t forget to contact the company, too," Spencer Choi, who was busy reading something in his computer tablet, added. "Dujun-ah, I know your family’s subordinates are more efficient than the company people. But don’t keep me in the dark, okay?"

Yun Dujun just nodded, and then he looked at Wonyoung. "What did the writer tell you earlier?"

Oh, right.

"Sunbae-nim, I was invited for an audition," Wonyoung said excitedly. "It’s for the role of an Omega character pretending to be an Alpha!"

***

"YEAH, break the hand that hit Bae Wonyoung," Yun Dujun said to the person he was talking to on the phone. "That’s it for now."

After that, he ended the call.

He made that call when Bae Wonyoung stepped out of the car to buy a fancy drink for Yun Yuhyun.

My husband doesn’t need to know stuff like this.

"You can be scary sometimes, Dujun-ah," Spencer Choi said while shaking his head. "I’m glad I decided to come with you today. If I weren’t here, you would have probably asked your men to kill that thug manager."

"Not to that extent."

"I only accompanied you today because I wanted to see how you’d act around Wonyoung-ssi."

"And...?"

"And you better be extra careful, Yun Dujun," Spencer Choi said, sighing. "Don’t act like Wonyoung-ssi is important to you that much. Or, else, the reporters are going to have a field day talking about your love life."

Oh?

"You’re getting better at it, Dujun-ah."

"Getting better at what?"

"At acting like a doting husband to Wonyoung-ssi," Spencer Choi reminded him. "This is just all an act, right?"

Yun Dujun couldn’t tell anymore, though.

I almost forgot why I needed to act like a doting husband in the first place.

When he saw Bae Wonyoung hurt, he wanted to explode with anger.

No, he actually wanted to kill the person who hit his husband.

He had never been that immersed in a role before.

Hence, Yun Dujun couldn’t help but wonder.

Is this still acting?
