CHAPTER 64: CHEAT CODE FROM THE FUTURE

"THAT’S too much sugar for the kids, Hoobae-nim."

Wonyoung tried to cover the two cups of cotton candy milkshake that he bought for Yun Yuhyun and An Baekya, even though he knew it was useless. "It’s not like the kids eat sugar every day. I’ll make sure they’ll brush their teeth thoroughly later."

Yun Dujun looked at Wonyoung long and hard before sighing. "Just this once, then."

Yey.

"But you’re having the same thing as the kids?" Yun Dujun asked. "You’re not that young anymore, Hoobae-nim."

"I’m only 27, Sunbae-nim."

"Yes, you’re in your late twenties already. You should live a healthier lifestyle from now on, especially since you’ve decided to try acting again."

Tsk.

This sunbae-nim keeps nagging...

Yun Dujun could be such a boomer sometimes.

But it wasn’t like Wonyoung could complain.

"I’ll keep that in mind, Sunbae-nim."

Yun Dujun just nodded, and then he sipped the iced coffee that Wonyoung had bought for him.

Of course, he also bought iced coffee for Han Myung, the one driving the van now.

He also bought iced coffee for Spencer Choi, but...

"Why did Daepyonim leave already?"

The CEO of Hanbyeol Entertainment left while Wonyoung was in the café.

"Daepyonim is a busy person. Aside from running Hanbyeol, he also works for Hosung Group."

Right.

Sunbae-nim’s boss is a chaebol.

"His chief of staff picked him up," Yun Dujun added. "Daepyonim is fine, so don’t worry about him."

"It’s amazing how a big shot like Daepyonim accompanies you like he’s your manager."

"Well, I’m his company’s biggest star."

Pfft.

"It’s true. Hanbyeol Entertainment won’t be the Hanbyeol Entertainment it is without me," Yun Dujun said, frowning for some reason. "Don’t admire Daepyonim too much. It’s me who you should be admiring more, Hoobae-nim."

Pfft.

"Are you throwing a tantrum just because I praised your boss, Sunbae-nim?"

"I am not throwing a tantrum."

"Yeah, sure."

"Yah."

"I respect you, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, smiling. "I also like your face very much."

Yun Dujun chuckled while shaking his head. "Alright, I forgive you for praising Daepyonim."

***

"I LOVE cotton candy! And milkshake!"

Wonyoung felt proud while watching Yun Yuhyun enjoy the cotton candy milkshake that he bought for his son.

They actually didn’t pick up the kid directly from his school.

Sunbae-nim has to be extra careful, after all.

Hence, they parked at a nearby establishment and waited for Rosa to bring Yun Yuhyun there.

The kid’s nannies and bodyguards took a different car.

Only Yun Yuhyun stayed in the van with Wonyoung and Yun Dujun.

"Thank your papa for that," Yun Dujun said. "You know I don’t usually allow you to have that much sugar, right?"

"Yes, Daddy," Yun Yuhyun said, and then he looked up at Wonyoung with sparkling eyes. "Thank you for the cotton candy milkshake, Papa."

Aww.

Wonyoung smiled and nodded. "You’re welcome, baby."

Oops.

I called Yuhyun baby out loud...!

"Papa is being silly again," Yun Yuhyun said teasingly. "I’m not a baby anymore. I’ll be an elementary school student soon!"

Right.

And Yuhyun will be turning six years old in a few months.

Wow.

It sucks to realize how much time we’ve lost.

"You’re still a baby, Yuhyun-ah," Wonyoung said, his voice almost a whisper. "My baby..."

To his surprise, he found himself almost touching Yun Yuhyun’s head.

But he froze when he realized what he was about to do.

"Why did you stop?" Yun Dujun asked, raising an eyebrow. "You can touch our son."

Oh.

"Can I do that, Yuhyun-ah?" Wonyoung asked his son awkwardly. "Can I touch you?"

"Sure, Papa," Yun Yuhyun answered nonchalantly. "Daddy and my uncles told me not to let just anyone touch me. But it’s okay because you’re my papa."

Aww.

That gave Wonyoung the courage to touch Yun Yuhyun’s head.

Unlike him, he would often flinch whenever his son touched him, the child didn’t even blink.

Yuhyun is fine with my touch.

Wonyoung also didn’t feel like his skin was crawling this time.

Oh?

I’m fine?

Wonyoung tested it again by touching Yun Yuhyun’s chubby and smooth cheek.

Ah, I didn’t feel disgusted.

"Baby, your cheek is so soft and smooth."

"I’m not a baby, Papa..." Yun Yuhyun trailed off, and then he furrowed his little brows. "Papa, are you hurt? Your lips look like they’re in pain."

Ah, right.

I have a busted lip.

"It doesn’t hurt," Wonyoung assured his son. "Papa just accidentally hit my face on the door earlier."

He fully expected Yun Yuhyun to call him ’silly.’

But that didn’t happen.

"Be careful, Papa," Yun Yuhyun said worriedly, and then his little, cold hand touched the side of Wonyoung’s face. "Don’t get hurt again."

Aww.

Wonyoung’s chest was suddenly filled with an unknown but warm and fuzzy feeling. "Yuhyun-ah, I wanna gobble you up."

Yun Yuhyun giggled. "Papa is being silly again. You can’t eat me. I’m not food!"

How can someone be so cute?

Wonyoung felt the urge to hug Yun Yuhyun, but he thought he wasn’t ready yet.

Little steps.

***

"WELCOME BACK, Appa, Abeoji, and Yuhyun."

Wonyoung smiled when An Baekya welcomed them at the main entrance of the mansion, along with the other house staff. "We’re back, Baekya," he said, handing the cup holder to the child. "I got you a cotton candy milkshake."

An Baekya wasn’t actually fond of sweets.

But Wonyoung figured it wouldn’t hurt for the child to have some from time to time.

It’s not like An Baekya is allergic to it.

"Thank you, Appa," An Baekya said, smiling. "I’ll enjoy it well."

"You speak like an old man," Yun Yuhyun teased An Baekya. "Did you get bored while waiting for us?"

"No, not at all," An Baekya said while shaking his head. "Uncle George taught me English, so I didn’t get bored."

Yun Yuhyun gasped, and then he looked up at Wonyoung and Yun Dujun. "Papa, Daddy, I’m going to my room and study English!"

And, just like that, Yun Yuhyun ran to the staircase.

Of course, his nannies— Rosa and Han Gunil— quickly followed the child.

"Take a rest in the meantime, Hoobae-nim," Yun Dujun said while patting Wonyoung’s back. "Let’s have barbecue for dinner. I asked Chef Park to prepare wagyu beef tonight."

Wonyoung beamed after hearing the word ’wagyu.’ "Okay, Sunbae-nim."

***

AFTER Wonyoung took a shower, he went to check on An Baekya in his room.

He ended up talking about his fight with Jo Inha’s manager when the child asked about the wound on his face.

And after sharing his story...

"Ah, so Actress Jo Inha is still alive."

Wonyoung almost choked on his saliva. "I-Is she going to die soon? But she’s young. She’s only 26 years old."

He looked up Jo Inha on the internet earlier— aka NAVI Search (formerly Navielle), Yun Dujun’s father’s company that beat G*ogle in South Korea.

Wonyoung found out that the actress debuted three years ago.

While I was still in a coma, so I wasn’t familiar with her.

Anyway, Jo Inha debuted in a hit Joseon drama while being paired with a much older, seasoned actor.

Then the actress had a movie that hit 5 million views in the theatres.

But, last year, Jo Inha got into a controversy regarding her personal life.

Apparently, the actress was dating a thug— who also happened to be the CEO of her agency.

Since then, Jo Inha’s career had slowed down.

But she’s still lucky to be in a show with a seasoned actor like Seo Cheolmin-ssi, directed by Director Gong, at that.

Hence, Wonyoung didn’t understand Jo Inha’s agency’s desperation.

Why are they using their actress to ’seduce’ Dujun Sunbae-nim?

"Actress Jo Inha killed herself back in my timeline."

Wonyoung was shocked by An Baekya’s sudden ’bomb.’ "What? Why?"

"I’m not sure. Her case was documented, but I already forgot the details," An Baekya said, shrugging. "But I do remember that the last movie she filmed became an instant classic. The child actor who starred in that movie became Yun Yuhyun’s rival in the future."

Oh.

"There’s going to be an audition for that movie soon— and they’re going to look for a child actor to take the main role."

Wonyoung tilted his head to one side. "You’re going to audition for that role, Baekya?"

"Of course, Appa," An Baekya said, smiling. It was a calculating smile, so it wasn’t really that cute. "That movie is destined to hit 10 million viewers, so I need to get the main role."

***

IS IT considered cheating if An Baekya went for the role meant for someone else?

Wonyoung felt uneasy after talking to An Baekya, so he ended up taking a walk in the garden.

The garden was busy, though.

Since they would be having barbecue for dinner, the household staff members were already setting up the table in the garden.

Plus, Chef Park Bin and his kitchen staff members were busy arranging their cooking station. There was a section for grilling meat, and a section for grilling corns and other vegetables. Grilled seafood was also an option.

It’s like a barbecue party.

"Wonyoung-ssi, here."

Hmm?

Wonyoung was surprised when Chef Park Bin handed him a skewer of freshly cooked wagyu cubes. "Huh? Can I really eat now?"

"Who cares? You look hungry, so I came to feed you," Chef Park Bin, a good-looking Alpha in his mid-thirties, said. The only ’flaw’ that the chef had as an Alpha was probably his height. Chef Park Bin didn’t even hit 180cm, and it was the average height for Alphas. Even so, the chef had a lethal face card. "Just consider it taste testing."

"Thank you, Chef."

Wonyoung then took a bite of the grilled wagyu cube...

... and the beef instantly melted in his mouth.

Then the flavors hit his tongue, almost making him ascend.

"Wow," Wonyoung said in disbelief. "Not only is the meat obviously high quality, but it’s also packed with flavors. I think I just fell in love, Chef Park."

"Aigoo. Don’t say that, kiddo. I want to keep working here."

Huh?

Wonyoung was confused as to why Chef Park Bin suddenly looked nervous and scared.

Until...

"Hoobae-nim, were you hungry?"

Oh.

Yun Dujun suddenly appeared next to Wonyoung.

Like a ghost.

"Have a good time, then, Boss, Wonyoung-ssi."

Pfft.

Chef Park calls Dujun Sunbae-nim ’boss?’

Wonyoung wanted to tease the chef, but Chef Park Bin had already left.

"Did you fall in love with Chef Park, Hoobae-nim?"

Aigoo.

"What would you do if I had fallen for Chef Park, Sunbae-nim?"

"It’s a shame, but I’ll have to send Chef Park home and look for a new chef."

Wonyoung laughed, thinking that Yun Dujun was joking.

But the Alpha remained dead serious.

Aigoo.

"Sunbae-nim, don’t be ridiculous. Chef Park isn’t even my type. I have nothing against men shorter than me."

Yes, Wonyoung was taller than Chef Park Bin.

I’m pretty tall for an Omega, since Omegas have an average height of 174cm.

"But I’m not attracted to people way older than me. Four years is my limit..."

Oh.

Wonyoung shouldn’t have added the last part.

Too late to regret it, though.

Yun Dujun was already smiling.

After all, we have a four-year gap between us.

"I was only kidding, Hoobae-nim," Yun Dujun said while gently patting Wonyoung’s head. "I won’t fire Chef Park."

Liar— you didn’t sound like you were joking earlier.

But Wonyoung just munched on his wagyu cubes instead of arguing with Yun Dujun.

Sometimes, you just gotta ignore an Alpha’s skewed logic.

"If you were hungry, you should have told me," Yun Dujun scolded him. "Next time, come to me and not Chef Park."

"You’re being silly, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, copying Yun Yuhyun’s ’catchphrase.’ "I should go to a chef when I’m hungry. Why would I go to you?"

"I can cook simple dishes for you."

"Like?"

"Kimchi fried rice with steak on top?"

"That sounds tempting."

"Right?" Yun Dujun said, pausing for a moment. "What are you thinking about, Hoobae-nim? You look troubled."

Oh, right.

Wonyoung was actually thinking if it was fair for An Baekya to ’steal’ the role from the child who was supposed to be Yun Yuhyun’s actor rival in the future.

I know Baekya hasn’t passed the audition yet, but I already feel bad.
