I'm a spinosaurus with a System to raise a dinosaur army
Chapter 330: Trap
Sobek was confident he could win. But he knew that the situation could change immediately if an atomic bomb arrived. Therefore he was prevented: since due to the battle it was difficult to use [Supreme instinct] to warn of the arrival of the bomb, he had asked Rambo to place some members of his intelligence about five kilometers behind the trench of the dinosaurs . In this way they would not be affected by the battle and therefore could use [Supreme instinct] to warn of the approaching dangers. Since a nuclear bomb had a destructive range much greater than five kilometres, [Supreme Instinct] would immediately activate if that eventuality occurred and they could warn Sobek in time. If that had happened Sobek would have simply ordered [Teleportation] to be used and the dinosaurs would have fled.
In short, Sobek had thought of everything. However, he wasn't confident enough to believe it was that easy. The Empire must have had a reason to attack right now. He had ordered Snock, Monica, Old Li and Rambo to look for signs of danger in other areas of the planet and Mazu to check the coasts of the Empire, and he had Al who was constantly in contact with the Eden Union and therefore with all technological systems of orbital control they had. There appeared to be no Imperial troop movements elsewhere, so that attack wasn't a diversion. But then what was it?
Even though he was full of doubts, Sobek wasn't the type to hole up and wait for his opponent to show his cards. He was a warrior and forced the opponent to reveal the tricks he had up his sleeve, at the cost of taking him by the scruff of the neck and punching the truth out of him. So he hadn't hesitated to let loose. After all, it was the duty of a pack leader to lead the charge!
With [Teleportation], Sobek had instantly moved beyond the enemy line and assaulted one of the turrets. He hadn't been the only one: many dinosaurs were using the same method to quickly decrease enemy flak. The missile launch stations were tens of kilometers apart, but the turrets were positioned along the Imperial trench line. Destroying them was pretty easy for Sobek. With a roar he tore one to pieces and then leapt upon another.
Seeing their pack leader attacking, all the animals roared and intensified the battle. The imperial front quickly began to falter. Sobek went on to destroy every turret and tank he could find. Only they had any value to him: the rest of the army simply got trampled by his huge paws.
"FIRE!"
Sobek heard that scream almost by accident; his hearing was now so strong that he could hear the squeak of a mouse in the middle of a storm. An instant after the sound reached his ears, several bullets slammed into his right side.
The spinosaurus roared in fury. They were clearly the shots of a tank and were strong enough to go through [Reinforced skin]. Furthermore, they seemed to have the same properties as the bullet that had hit Rambo months before: although [Regeneration] was working at its maximum, he was unable to counter the microrobots. Sobek snarled in fury and with one blow of his claws tore off the entire right side by himself; despite his pain, it was enough to knock the microbots off him, allowing [Regeneration] to do his duty. He then put on his [Personal armor] and turned to where the bullets had come from.
A whole platoon was coming towards him. Dozens and dozens of tanks, flanked by hundreds of soldiers, were targeting it. "FIRE!" he yelled again what was presumably their commander.
The tanks complied and another barrage of shells hurtled towards Sobek. However, this time the spinosaurus was not going to get hit.
[Selected mutation: metal mutation]
Using his metallokinesis, Sobek deflected the bullets that crashed into the enemy trench around him. Whole areas of the Imperial Base Camp were pulverized and fires raged. Then Sobek unleashed [Devastating roar] on his opponents. Dozens of soldiers were lifted by the blast and some of the nearest tanks broke down due to the intense sound. At that point the giant spinosaurus charged at them with claws unsheathed.
Even without activating any mutations, Sobek was a titan 60 meters long and more than 18 tall. From the point of view of simple Imperial soldiers, it was like seeing yourself run into a house more than four stories high. A house full of claws, teeth and with a strong murderous intent.
When he reached the first line nothing and no one could resist him: his claws swept the ground with such fury that any human being who was even touched by them was reduced to a lump of flesh and blood. As soon as he reached the tanks he jumped on them and started tearing them apart one by one.
The platoon began to withdraw. Clearly they understood that there was no match against him. Despite this, however, their leader still yelled: "FIRE!"
Another volley of bullets came upon Sobek and smashed into his [Personal armor]. The spinosaurus' eyes gleamed with fury. "Insects!" he roared. "You still dare to challenge me!? Ants should stay where they belong!"
A primal fury took hold of him, the typical fury of a beast that did not accept such challenges. With a roar so loud that it shook the planes in the sky, the spinosaurus began to advance with even more ardor. Entire ranks of soldiers were literally erased from existence and reduced to nothing but disembodied cells scattered across the ground, so much so that they could not even be recognized as blood or pieces of a human being.
The retreat of the platoon turned into a real rout. Yet still the tanks did not stop. At the umpteenth fire, the umpteenth barrage of bullets broke on Sobek's armor.
The more bullets hit him, the angrier Sobek got. However, as he struggled, the spinosaurus managed to soothe his animal heart a little and regain some reason. It was strange, he reflected, that the tanks kept hitting him despite their efforts to get away from him quickly: since the shells had no effect, they only served to fuel his anger. More than trying to flee, it seemed that platoon was trying to keep his attention focused on them, to draw him somewhere. And besides Sobek, concentrated as he was on tearing everything and everyone to pieces, had noticed out of the corner of his eye that in the fury of pursuing the platoon he had entered a very strange area of the rival camp: a circular space about a hundred wide meters on the ground where wires and wires of cables passed protected by sorts of steel barriers.
"I don't like this" he thought. "This all looks just like a…!"
Before he could finish that thought, the electrical wires on the ground glowed with an intense blue light and began to pulsate as if they had a life of their own.
