I'm Crushing on Gorgeous Faces in Variety Shows!
Chapter 61: Come On, Get on the Swing
CHAPTER 61: CHAPTER 61: COME ON, GET ON THE SWING
The fans surfing the internet couldn’t remain calm.
[Whoa, are they for real??? Did the staff check the safety?]
[I honestly thought this was just an acting crash course, why are there such intense games?]
[Guan Yu is really having a hard time, she had to sneak and snatch stickers, but that little announcement almost scared her soul away, hiding and dodging to get here.]
[Apart from Shu Ran, who isn’t having a hard time?]
[If Shu Ran chose the other options, maybe she wouldn’t drag others down.]
[Exactly, Shu Ran really contributes nothing to this show, I almost forgot she was there in the last episode.]
[Replace her, Shu Ran is neither smart nor funny; apart from looking somewhat appealing, she’s utterly useless.]
[What are you talking about, does Shu Ran being here bother you?! If you like watching, then watch, if not, just leave.]
[Shu Ran has been trying really hard, she hasn’t participated in such shows before.]
[Even Shi Yuhuai is better than her, at least standing there he serves as a nice view.]
[Stop defending, just admit it, your sister isn’t suited for this show.]
[Can we be quiet? Just watch the show.]
[To be honest, they are fixed MCs, they’re like a group, what’s wrong with teaming up and fighting together?]
[Let’s see how it goes, Shu Ran seems quite guilty too.]
[Cheng Zhi fans, let’s just turn off the comments and enjoy the show.]
The fans who couldn’t stand it and got angry were already trending topics online like #ShuRanNotSuitedForDifferentVarietyShow#.
In fact, since the launch of "Different Variety Show," there have been endless discussions, criticism, and doubts about the program. However, because the guest stars have so many fans, these negative remarks haven’t had a chance to surface yet.
Let’s put this aside for now and get back to the program.
Despite Shu Ran’s reluctance, everyone tacitly agreed she should sit on the swing.
If it had been another female guest, even if she caused the team to complete an extra task, someone would have stepped up to help. Unfortunately, Shu Ran’s usual tactics from other shows don’t work in this bizarre program.
The six of them walked to the pool filled with sponge blocks and looked up.
Li Yang: "My rational mind tells me it’s just over a meter, but it feels like it’s ten meters high."
After two weeks of this fresh and unique show with no challenging tasks, retribution came swiftly and fiercely.
"Let’s go, we need to hurry." Rational straight guy Shi Yuhuai broke the deadlock and was the first to climb up the ladder on the side.
The swing and sponge rollers were both up there; they had to climb onto a high platform to stand on them.
After putting on safety gear and small cameras, Shi Yuhuai and Cheng Zhirang were the first to climb up, followed by Mu Qiu and Guan Yu, with Li Yang at the back.
Guan Yu, stepping on the ladder, sighed quietly, asking Li Yang behind her, "Li Yang Comrade, aren’t you allied with Shu Ran? Why are you self-destructing and breaking your own alliance?"
If they let Shu Ran be for a few more years, they wouldn’t have to complete this lousy task here. Plus, she had a hunch it would be impossible to finish this task anytime soon; maybe by the third round of hunting, they still wouldn’t be done, and when their strength was depleted, it would be like offering themselves to others.
Speaking of which, Li Yang regretted it too.
"I initially agreed to help Brother Huai reclaim his sticker, but halfway through, I felt like Brother Huai tricked me, so I thought if I stole one more, I wouldn’t lose out...Who knew it would turn out like this?"
With a tearful face, he slowly realized he’d been tricked midway, thinking his awareness could turn the tide, not expecting the culprit couldn’t escape justice.
Guan Yu turned back to give him a speechless look.
As they went up one after another, next to the fixed soft roller, there was an extended platform, with a slightly higher swing at the front of the platform. Behind the roller was a gentle slope, with another sponge pool below.
Mu Qiu glanced at the sponge pool behind, adjusting his cap, "So if someone sitting on the roller isn’t stable and falls, they’d roll down the slope too?!"
"Luckily, I’m not afraid of heights," Li Yang breathed a sigh of relief, "But it will waste more time."
"You’re not afraid of heights, but I am!" Guan Yu shouted, stealing Shu Ran’s usual line.
Mu Qiu silently mourned for her, quietly asking Cheng Zhirang beside her, "Brother Cheng, are you afraid of heights?"
Cheng Zhirang glanced down at her; even if he was afraid of heights, what could she do about it?
"No."
She then asked Shi Yuhuai, "Brother Huai, how about you?"
Shi Yuhuai looked at the height, "I haven’t played such high-altitude games before."
No one’s got time to play such high-altitude games, Guan Yu silently retorted.
"Ready?" the director sitting below, watching the fun, asked with a smile, "If ready, we’ll start the first challenge."
Guan Yu shouted from the high platform: "Wait! Director, I just want to ask, did you plan for there to be roaming NPCs, so you prepared a lot of tasks for each person? They’re all equally hard, right?"
The director replied through a loudspeaker, "There’s no reward even if you guess it right."
"I knew it," Guan Yu muttered.
Hearing the director’s words, Li Yang’s self-blame lessened a bit, bringing back his mischievous mood.
"But director, there’s nothing like this in Harley Quinn’s life!"
Their Suicide Squad battles are supposed to be thrilling!
The director raised the loudspeaker, saying he could accommodate the request, "If you want, Li Yang, we can swap the task for something similar to the movie plot."
Li Yang almost responded, but his belt was tugged by Shi Yuhuai behind him.
"? Brother Huai?"
With towering stature and overwhelming disappointment, Shi Yuhuai responded: "You want something harder?"
Li Yang felt like he was at home under his mom’s death stare.
"...No director! I was just joking!"
His tact pleased the director, who joyfully announced the start of the first challenge.
Stiff with tension, Shu Ran walked to the front, grabbing the ropes of the swing, looking back at the others.
Guan Yu smiled warmly, "Go for it! We’re all watching and cheering for you!"
Mu Qiu quietly analyzed Shu Ran’s expressions, adding more descriptive words for the overacting female side character.
Getting onto the swing wasn’t too hard, as long as she didn’t wobble and fall into the pool below. But, to showcase everyone’s "care and harmony," they all climbed up to help.
Mu Qiu also got on, standing half a meter behind Shu Ran, ready to catch her at any moment.
The three men held the swing ropes, with Guan Yu, most skilled at reading expressions, tasked with standing in front of Shu Ran supporting her.
This was the difference between having and not having a fanbase.
Mu Qiu found it fascinating how the distinction of social hierarchy in the entertainment industry uniquely expressed, permeating stars, fans, everyone’s minds, and no one felt it akin to being manipulated.
