CHAPTER 165: BATTLE! (3)

Just as the demon reached the top of the dune with blistering speeds, swinging his flaming hand down at the elf variant girl who could only look on in fear, he was suddenly blocked by a blow that appeared out of nowhere.

It redirected his swing and sent him crashing into the sand a few steps away. The suddenness of the attack had taken the demon off guard.

The elf variant girl let out a shaky gasp, finally able to breathe after having been shocked to total stillness by the demon’s intense gaze.

"Elara." A tall, green-skinned elf variant, with heavy white wings folded behind his back, nodded in greeting at the rooted elf girl.

Zephyr carefully observed the newcomer, furrowing his brows slightly as he noticed his confusing features.

The guy was very evidently elven, with some kind of avian heritage as a base. But that wasn’t what confused Zephyr.

The guy had wings on his back, but those weren’t like a bird’s. They were featherless, and more leathery-looking, like a dragonkin’s.

Together with his height and strength — as clearly displayed — Zephyr was fairly confident the guy also had some dragonkin variant blood in him.

An elf, dragonkin variant with avian features...

It was a mouthful.

Zephyr brought his attention back to the matter at hand when he noticed the demon rebound from his surprise fall, charging back at the elf variant girl.

"Stay behind me, Elara!" The elf dragonkin urged calmly, shielding Elara’s small frame.

He met the demon head-on, causing a shockwave to spread out, and with it, a scattering of flickers of flames.

’Damn... that looked really cool... Was that how our clashes were?’ Zephyr thought in amazement as he observed their fight.

It looked like two beasts were clashing as they continued to collide with heavy blows.

And all the while they collided, the elf dragonkin variant was careful not to let the dangerous shockwaves carry across to the elf variant girl behind him.

In fact he had succeeded in moving their fight, pushing the mad, flaming demon further away from the elf variant girl, which led Zephyr to fully believe they knew each other and were from the same planet...

But how was that possible?

The Voice of The World had clearly stated that all twelve champions from each world would be sent to different sectors, ensuring each of the twelve sectors was represented by one each.

’So how is this possible...?’ He thought as he observed the fight.

The elf dragonkin pounded down on the flaming demon guy, who seemed somewhat weaker than before.

The heaviness of his blows, along with his overall speed had reduced compared to when he had been fighting with Zephyr.

"Heh... His enhancement is wearing off." Zephyr noted.

The elf dragonkin also noticed this point and pressed even harder, raining blows up on blows on the flaming demon without regard for himself.

One had to know that even in the demon’s current weakened state, his blows were still very heavy.

The elf dragonkin was without any sort of body enhancement, so with every hit... every clash... he sustained some damage.

His hands were already trembling from repeated shocks. His white attire was charred and burnt in various spots from the scattering flames after every hit. And even the heavy rise and fall of his chest showed that he was fully exerting himself to keep up with the demon’s pace.

But despite all this, he barely had any expression on his face, meeting the demon head on with equal ferocity and doggedness... almost like it was his duty.

"Yeahh... he’s surely some kind of duty-bound follower..." Zephyr glanced back at the elf girl who the guy was fighting for.

She had finally moved further away, flitting her gaze between the fight and Zephyr in the distance below.

He caught her gaze as she glanced at him during one of those moments, staring at her deeply before snorting lightly and walking away.

He’d seen enough.

The elf dragonkin guy had been added to his list of those to be wary about... along with the elf girl too.

She was the one who had the guy bound to her. And that meant whoever was her enemy was also going to be his.

Coupled with the fact that this wasn’t even supposed to be possible, Zephyr regarded her as someone very dangerous in his books.

Who knew how many other champions she had within the same sector.

If one was already here, then what was stopping another from also being somewhere looking for her.

He decided to leave now before the fight ended so he wouldn’t have to deal with her and whatever she wanted from him.

"Hey! You! Wait!" she called after him, but he didn’t stop. Instead he even broke into a sprint, leaving the elf variant girl with her mouth wide open.

"Why are you running?! Hey!!"

The elf dragonkin mid-fight also noticed Zephyr running further into the distance and frowned slightly.

He didn’t know what had made Elara take an interest in Zephyr, but with his experience of what Elara was capable of, he knew something had to be special about Zephyr.

So he doubled down on his fight with the demon. No longer pulling his punches again.

And within a few minutes, the demon was done.

His flames had sputtered out, leaving him severely weakened, with a shriveled up frame like all the blood had been sucked out of him.

The elf dragonkin snapped his neck cleanly. Killing him and ending his suffering immediately.

But as he turned to the distance trying to spot Zephyr’s figure in the dim moonlit darkness of the desert, he realized he was nowhere to be seen.

"He’s gone?" he asked.

Elara nodded. "He is very fast. But I will find him... I must!"

"Who exactly is he...?" the elf dragonkin asked, panting as he tried to steady his breath from the previous fight.

Elara did not respond, only walking forward in the direction Zephyr took.

The elf dragonkin behind her squinted his eyes, staring into the distance at the journey that lay ahead of them before he started after Elara.
