~ODETTE’S POV~

"You flew? How is that even possible? That’s powerful wind magic, usually only used by bird shifters and witches, a few wolves with bird shifter ancestor can use it, but it’s not an ability given to vampires." Ursula sounded shocked, like she couldn’t believe what I told her.

"I have wind abilities and fire abilities, but my fire isn’t all that great." I told her, and it was my first time telling a stranger I can control and manipulate fire.

"Don’t let her lie to you, her fire is amazing, she burned a rapist a life with it. It was the most beautiful fire I’ve ever seen, like white flames, her body was covered in them, but they didn’t burn her, and after she sent the flames to him. Scorching his body." Ambrose added proudly, like my act would somehow make him look good and reflect well on him.

"It’s not like I can replicate it. I don’t even remember doing it."

Ursula stood in silence, stunned by what I can do. And to think, that might be only the tip of the iceberg.

"I have to take her to the healer before we go and see the resident witch." Ambrose mentions, grabbing hold of my hand.

My head twisted frantically looking around for people who might see.

"I don’t care if people stare, I’ll make it known you’re mine." He kissed me on my cheek.

I turned bright red and the guards walking by saw it all. Saw the kiss, saw my face heat up like a little girl on a hot summer day. I was so embarrassed.

The guards frowned, obviously displeased seeing their alpha king so friendly with a vampire.

Can’t blame them, I’d frown too if I saw them same thing and the roles were reversed.

"Stop, people are looking, and they aren’t very thrilled." I tried to pull my hand away, but his grip held firm.

"I’ll cut the tongues out of anyone who speaks ill of my little fox." Ambrose purred in my ear.

His warm breath delicately touching my skin, sent goosebumps down my arms and legs.

"Come on." He pulled my hand gently tugging me away from Ursula.

"I’ll see you soon. Looking forward to class!" I waved to her.

Taking me through a maze of halls I find myself in the palace infirmary.

A special room for high status people was opened for us and we entered.

"Alpha King, a healer will be in, in a moment." The young nurse completely ignored me, and even had the audacity to send me a sharp annoyed glare. Like I was the one who didn’t belong here.

Bitch.

She battered her lashes as she spoke, like she would somehow get his attention with something so cheap.

Pathetic.

"You’re dismissed, and bat those lashes at someone who gives a shit." Ambrose sort of growled mumbled. Making his disinterest well known.

"Don’t come back, I’ll need to have a talk with the director about professionalism and little wolves knowing their place." His words were sharp designed like a dagger to stab the little nurse right in her heart.

Good.

A warmth crept into my chest as a smile stretched across my face.

He caught her advances and even shut them down.

Green flags all around.

He was so concerned over me still, even though I was fine now, it was sweet.

A different nurse came in with the doctor. I’m assuming one of them is the healer.

"Hello, Alpha King, what brings you in?" The doctor asked.

"Dr. Samuel, this is my guest, Princess Odette. She’s in need of a checkup, the works. Blood test, cat scan, everything."

The doctor frowned when he looked at me.

"She’s a vampire, I can’t treat them. Nor would I." The doctor said firmly.

Big mistake.

Big mistake. Ambrose stood up from the bed and the room instantly got 10º colder and Ambrose sent the doctor a deadly look and released his alpha aura, forcing the rooms occupants to instantly submit to him.

Ambrose’s eyes flashed a blinding sunny gold. His wolf attempting to surface.

"You dare disobey me? Your Alpha King? Are stupid? Or did you somehow manage to magically forget your place too?" Ambrose’s released a guttural growl, his voice was strong, his tone thick with authority.

The man flinched from the fire in Ambrose’s tone.

"No, Alpha King... forgive me... I didn’t... I meant no disrespect." Dr. Samuel stammered over his words, dropping to his knees, his fingers fidgeting in his lap with his head bowed.

"You meant no disrespect, yet you told me you wouldn’t treat my guest? A royal one at that? Than what would you call it doctor, please, educate your alpha king on a new definition I have yet learned." Ambrose’s voice was dangerously low and even sent shivers down my spine, forcing the hair on the back of my neck to stand up.

I didn’t want any bloodshed, I was feeling tired from the shit sleep I had, I just wanted to get this checkup over and go talk to the witch. I wanted answers on my growing power and my apparent mate bond.

Could they be linked? It didn’t seem likely, but it was also way too much of a coincidence to not be connected. My powers surging and a mate bond developing?

"I’m sorry, Alpha King, I forgot my place, I... I... I’m sorry Princess Odette." The poor guy was practically whimpering and probably seconds away from pissing his pants.

His begging pulled me from my thoughts; I reach out and grab hold of Ambrose’s hand. His shoulders instantly relaxed a little, and his aura reined in some.

"Sit back down, I don’t want blood on my clothes, and I just want this stupid checkup over." I use a soft tone, and blink slowly at him when he turned to look at me.

Using my charm to save this pathetic wolf’s life. When did I become so soft hearted?

"He insulted you." Ambrose defended his anger.

"He’s beneath me, his insult doesn’t matter, wolves do not care for the opinion of sheep." I said shooting the man a sharp annoyed glare.

Ambrose just smirked.

But this time that stupid smirk didn’t make me as mad as it usually did.

Instead, my stupid little black heart fluttered.

"You will bring me a different doctor, I don’t want to see your face again, am I clear? If I do I won’t hesitate to rip your fucking tongue from your mouth for your slight against my guest." Ambrose’s threat carried the weight of 10,000 horses.

"Ye.. yes... Alpha King..." The stuttered before rushing out of the room. The guy couldn’t clear out soon enough.

The nurse was still standing, gawking at me. Like he couldn’t believe a vampire was sitting in front of him. His eyes weren’t just curious; they were undressing me. It made my skin crawl.

"If you keep staring at what’s mine, little boy, I’ll gouge out your eyes, get out and bring me females. I don’t want men looking at what’s mine." Ambrose growled.

The nurse quickly turned on his heels and ran out of the room without so much as a word.

"I need to remind my people; I’m not someone to disobey or question without reason. I seem to have let some people think they can get away with things. Seems my people need a reminder who the fuck is their king." Ambrose wasn’t just annoyed with their disrespect; he was taking it as a personal slight against him and a challenge to his rule and authority.

"It’s not that serious, there’s bound to be more people who will be displeased with a vampire princess by your side, especially one from my family. I was the same not that long ago. I needed to adjust and be shown; not all wolves are your uncle and father." I said attempting to reassure him I didn’t blame him or hold what happened to my mother against him.

But instead, a shred of hurt flashed in his eyes, like a fresh wound that had just been poked.

Before I could say anything else, two women walked in.

"Hello, I’m Dr. Ramsies and this is Nurse Jessica." She introduced herself and bowed her head with the nurse.

"Dr. Ramsies, this is Princess Odette, a vampire, she needs a full checkup. The works." Ambrose answered.

"I’ll get started." The doctor said turning to her nurse "Vials, please, Nurse Jess."

The other nurse nodded and left the rumor in a quick silence. The doctor took my vitals, and asked "You don’t smell like a normal vampire and aren’t vampire’s immortal? And you’re warm, how is that possible?"

"I’m not your typical vampire." I answered, keeping my answer simple, hoping she’d leave it alone.

But that was clearly asking too much.

"I need to understand more about you if I’m to treat you." She said. She didn’t give me the impression of someone pushing for information to gossip after. But like she was actually trying to do her job.

"I’m an energy vampire. A pureblooded one. Which means I don’t survive on blood like most vampires. I feed on energy, and emotions." I answered.

"That explains it, so what can I do for you, why are you here?" She asked taking the vials from the nurse, she stuck a needle in my arm and started drawing my blood.

"I had a nightmare, and I cried."

"She cried blood, don’t skip out on the important details." Ambrose said beside me.

I rolled my eyes. "I was fine. He’s overreacting."

"Bleeding from tear ducts is not something anyone should overlook." The doctor said taking his side.

Traitor.

"We’ll order a CT scan so we can see what’s going on in that pretty little head of yours." The doctor said smiling at me.

She turned and left the room.

"How long is this going to take?" I whined.

"As long as it needs, I won’t take any risks." He was staring into my eyes, holding my gaze.

My breath hitched, why was he like this? Turning everything in me into mush with just one look.

"This is ridiculous, I’m an immortal vampire. I’m fine, do we really have to sit through all of this?" I said finally tearing my gaze away from him, my cheeks heated, turning pink. As usual giving away my embarrassment.

"You’re cute, you may be immortal, but you’re not invincible. I can’t let anything happen to you. I don’t know what Onyx would do if we lost you." He admitted.

He was so different now. My heart acted like a giddy teen on a date with her crush.

I rolled my eyes and sighed "Whatever sure."

The doctor came back, and we went and had the scan done.

By the time the doctor reviewed the results of my bloodwork and scans it was well after dark. I’d spent the whole day here.

"Everything came back normal, exceptional in fact. I’ve never seen blood cells as perfect and flawless as yours. Pureblood doesn’t cover what’s flowing in your veins. Your scan looked good as well, clean bill of health." She informed us.

I shot Ambrose daggers with my eyes. Annoyed he wasted my entire day in this cold white room.

"Better safe than sorry." He shrugged. "The witch isn’t available until night anyways, Damon informed me, so we were just biding our time."

"So, to the witch?" I asked excitement laced my voice.

"Yes, my curious little fox."
